1000 People Were Asked To Recognize These Pop Culture Logos, And The Results Are Worse Than Expected
Would you be able to recognize the logo of the paper company in Scranton used in the TV show The Office? Or the symbols of The Hogwarts Houses? If you said yes, you might be surprised to find yourself in a minority as the survey conducted by signs.com shows that these are some of the least recognized logos in today's pop culture. But what are the most famous logos?
The custom signage company has already impressed us a month ago (see the post here) when they announced the results of a social experiment on the recognizability of popular logos. This time they turned to the media, logos of films, TV, and video games and asked over 1000 participants of different age groups to find out which popular culture imagery is the most memorable.
"We're visual creatures," states the company and reminds us that we remember 80 percent of what we see, 20 percent of what we read, and only 10 percent of what we hear. That is why it is important to create cool logos and memorable images in order to make a recognizable story.
We are positive that you will be able to recognize the most popular company logos and signs, but be sure to take time and test out your knowledge when it comes to the lesser-known logos too, maybe you'll do better than the majority. Let us know how well did you do in the comments.

Ok I want to know who 24% of the people thought and spider and WW symbol were for, I mean even if you aren't a superhero fan you know who Spiderman and Wonder Woman are.
Actually it makes complete sense. These weren't just handed out to die hard fans of the series. A badger in a badge would be more recognisable because there aren't many coats of arms with badgers on them. Whereas the lion is used in real life coats arms and many many fictional stories. Think about it.. Game of Thrones, The Lion the witch and the wardrobe.. royal families from fictional stories.. it's a common symbol.
Load More Replies...Only 12% recognition for MoM symbol....clearly they are surveying Muggles.
How do people recognize the Deathly Hallows and not any of the house symbols? This is a symbol from the last book / last 2 movies only. How are there twice as many people who recognize it than who recognize the Gryffindor symbol??
In the context of Harry Potter, the house symbols are unmistakable. But if you are given a bunch of symbols from TV shows, movies, and video games, it would be harder to distinguish some animals inside a shield. The Deathly Hallows is a very popular symbol in modern culture, and it is much more unique and identifiable.
Load More Replies...Ironically Ravenclaw is the lowest out of all the houses... And Hufflepuff is highest!
I'm calling shenaigans on the house crests there is no way that the top 2 are not Gryffindor and Slytherin!!!
Only 12% on Ministry of Magic!? The name's right there in the logo!
I told my friend Ravenclae’s were underappreciated when we held a movie marathon. They didn’t believe me until I pointed out the first time a raven claw was shown at all. In the second movie, sitting on a bench, talking to a griffindor, completely ignored by the plot. My poor, poor Ravenclaws. We are ignored!!!
How is it that only 12% recognize the Ministry of Magic logo when the name is literally included in the graphic?
It's called "blissful ignorance" and is usually a dark purplish-grey color ;-)
Load More Replies..."Sad" is when you ask people on the street to locate a country of your choice on a map and most struggle to find it.
Load More Replies...How can people NOT recognize the triforce? If you mention "The Legend of Zelda" (or anything like that) to me, the first thing I think of is the triforce. It's so iconic!
It's interesting how people born in the different decades recognize such different things from the others. Their pop culture intake has been lessened or expanded depending on when they were born.
Seriously? The star fleet sign is LOW?? Actually, nevermind. I just remembered that 3 days a go girls in my class were adamant that Star Trek copied the Vulcan emoji symbol. (🖖) I had to explain that Star Trek is 50 years old.
"The Results Are Worse Than Expected"... worse than expected for whom, exactly? An adolescent without anything to do but live eat and breath TV and movies? I'm sure recognition would be higher among 12 year olds. As you grow up and actually develop interests beyond passive consumption of entertainment, this won't surprise you so much.
This is so not true. If you would ask random people on the street, the results would be much worse (if it can really be considers bad, if someone doesn't know all that stuff).
Load More Replies...I don't know most of those because i'm not into superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy or popular TV. And I'm pretty pleased about that.
I'm curious about the parameters of this little experiment. "Different age groups" is very vague and there are definitely things on here that would be specific to certain age ranges while others outside those ages would be less inclined to recognize the logos. And, even still, I find it incredibly difficult to believe that even non-comic fans wouldn't recognize spider-man and wonder woman, especially less than the punisher? Not to mention most of these just had major box office films that it's virtually impossible to avoid seeing some form of advertising for. I'd like to know the specific age groups, regional locations, job/career, and general income range of those quizzed rather than a generic "1000 people." Does anyone know of a more legit study regarding marketing/pop culture logo recognition out there?
That's an interesting survey but symbols seem to be picked at random tbh.
