Many people don't realice that the Everest is littered with trash, bodily waste and dead bodies. I discovered that years ago and still feel shocked. So sad.

Load More Replies...Exaggerated curvature is result of "fisheye" type lens.
Load More Replies...People rarely reach the top on their first climb. It's usually the 3rd or 4th attempt that's successful. This isn't something you randomly decide to do one summer, it's something you set as a goal early on and spend decades training for and achieving. Being able to put a flag, for yourself and for those who didn't make, is a lifetime achievement and a major point of pride. Most climbers, if they die on the mountain they would much rather stay on the mountain. They often dedicated their lives to Everest, so Everest being their grave when the mountain takes their life is considered the most appropriate thing to do. It's much like the dead of the Titanic and the Edmund Fitzgerald in the depths with the wrecks. To bring them away and bury them somewhere else would be wrong. The bodies are often covered with the flag of their country as a point of respect. All of you complaining about the garbage and the bodies, unless you've been there and tried for the peak, you don't know what you're so glibly insisting should be done. Or what it really takes to get to the top, and back down alive.
It's too dangerous for people to retrieve bodies. Some people have died attempting to retrieve bodies so they leave them be. It is also a fitting reminder to the people climbing up how risky it is. Even lingering a few minutes too long on top can mean death on the way back down.
Load More Replies...Dear people those are not trash. Those are sacred Buddhist prayer flags and maybe some small amount of flags from various countries but let this picture not decieve you. To get to this peak is an arduous task that takes months and years of preparation and it is a spiritual experience... this flags are left up there with immense meaning. Yes, I'm from there and yes I my own people has been up there and I know what I am talking about. This place is littered with bodies and trash....
One can barely bring ones own weight to such high altitudes...
Load More Replies...Typical. Climb to the top of something majestically beautiful and then make it look like a rubbish tip.
People, they are not trash, They are flags left by people who climbed the mountain. The trash is elsewhere. The trash is the used oxygen tanks and other stuff people leave on the mountain. You can be honestly say, that wouldn't leave a flag, if manages to climb Everest? They are not always the flag of your home country. There are flags your kids made for you to put there, flag for someone who died trying to get there... Just think about this for a little while. Think how hard it is. It's easy to say from home and without climbing the mountain, that "this is awfull" and "who dares to do that", but I know, I would totally leave a flag. Even though I think, the mountain doesn't belong to us, it doesn't really even belong the climbers. It belongs the local people, to who the mountain is sacret and the name of the mountain is "Holy mother". From that point of view, I think it's a bit sad, what happens on there. Not only the flags.
Did you know that there are people who still insist that the earth is flat (Flat Earth Society). I wonder how they would explain the curvature of the earth that is shown here?
they could maybe by pointing out this is a wide lens or a fisheye?
Load More Replies...IT LOOKS LIKE A TRASH DUMP!!!! it is a little sad that we have polluted the highest point in earth this bad.
Read Beck Weathers' book "Left for Dead" -- tells how he was rescued during the 1996 tragedy when 9 climbers died. Will answer all your questions.
It is in our culture to leave those who have died in this attempt up in the mountains and most climbers who comes from other countries signs paperwork stating what they think should be done just incase unforseen tragic circumstances befall...which unfortunately are not uncommon either.
The pic seams a littel misleading.. I googled it and in other photos you can see that the colorful stuff are just some fabric pieces (like flags) that people tied to some poles there. Its not really all over the place, and it's not that trashy...
It's also cleaned up by hired Sherpas. Not sure how often but it looks due in this picture.
Load More Replies...Oh my God! When I saw the caption I thought it would be a beautiful picture.
It IS a beautiful picture. Look at the whole world behind him!
Load More Replies...This is NOT the top of Everest, no matter how the view appears. All these prayer flags are found at base camp or lower. It's a deceptive photo.
Wow all those flags....I guess it takes a big ego to climb that mountain
Almost all of those which I can see are prayer flags. These are the A4-size colored pieces strung together in sequence. A tradition in TIbetan/Nepalese/Bhutanese culture, these are often put in high and windy areas as the wind is said to be passing on the prayers written on them.

(CNN) Mount Everest is covered in trash. Decades of climbing on the world's highest mountain have turned it into a very tall garbage dump, strewn with rubbish, human waste and even bodies.May 2, 2019
So sad that it’s topped with trash. I mean put the flag up, take a picture and take it with you! Done!
You won't see the curvature of the Earth; that's the camera's doing. The highest point on the Earth's surface is a piece of trash sticking up from the top of Mt. Everest. How human.
This feed was actually very interesting, although sometimes the information was repeated. I learned stuff I didn’t know. Thank you all for commenting.
Gross. This has always bugged me. I know it would be dangerous, but there has to be some kind of trash collecting expedition somehow. Can there be? How would the garbage get back down the mountain?
Every year Japan sends cleaners to retrieve the trash, empty O2 bottles, garbage but the bodies remain as a memorial
I'm refraining from voting on this one. The view is spectacular, but the way some of these people treat this mountain( that is sacred to the indigenous people there) makes me sad and angry at the same time...
umm, plumbers can't reach mt everest and that's why there is no toilets to store waste
Is there anything wonderful left in the world that we haven't ruined with our trash?
I thought it's just gonna be ice and snow up there :O This is so interesting but sad... some people just love to litter.
Im proud to be a New Zealander knowing the first person to make it to the summit was Edmund Hillary and his companion Sherpa Tenzing.
the height of Everest rises by a foot each year as people leave flags and other misc stuff at it's peak...
This is just so sad. Why on earth would people want to literally trash it like that???
Ignore my comment. I posted before discovering that they are prayer flags.
Load More Replies...How disgusting! To violate something like a mountain or any part of Mother Earth, disdainful!
This is NOT the top of Everest! There is a huge number of prayer flags, which are usually found at base camp or even lower.
All that garbage. So disgusting how people leave such a beautiful place looking like that. Just awful.
That is disgusting and we all should be ashamed! Everyone who goes up there must bring at least three pieces of rubbish down with them. It should be the price for climbing the mountain.
Why are people so arrogant and self-centred that they feel compelled to leave a piece of themselves everywhere they go? Surely the achievement of reaching the summit is accolade enough - why turn such an incredible part of the world into a dumping ground just to stroke your ego with an 'I was here - aren't I awesome?!' monument of trash?
Yikes. What a mess! Typical of what humans do no matter where they go. The oceans are getting just as bad.
Another example of the persistent conflict between the human species' aspirations and the health of the planet it evolved on. It's not fair to condemn the achievement marking behaviour of the individuals that strive so hard to reach that peak - but it's also not fair to scar the planet with our markings. Sometimes it seems we just weren't really meant to evolve in this beautiful place.
Is this the very summit? How do we know? Then, where is the camera placed? Is this then a selfie taken above the head of the climber shown here?
Horrible!!! Climbing Everest should be disallowed. Slobs, all of them.
Seeing the curvature of the earth is cool. Seeing all the trash there is is disturbing! If people are going drag the s**t up they should have to drag it back down!
They indeed do. But because the conditions on the Everest are literally deadly, they need to plan and organize the operations as if they were military operations, and the risk of losing workers there is very real (and happens). The time windows for safe (or at least, less deadly) conditions during summer is really short. And it's really expensive. That's why there are still so many dead climbers up there: it's too expensive and dangerous to retrieve them. And after the clean-up, climbers keep throwing trash behind (and dying there) all the year round, so the cycle starts anew.
Load More Replies...theyre not. was just there. its not trash btw people
Load More Replies...Jesus. Is there nothing left that humans haven't completely f****d up and trashed? God we suck
People pronounce it wrong too. The guy it's named after pronounced his name as Eev-rest but people pronounce the mountain as Ever-rest or Ev-rest.
Thought it was almost impossible to get up there. How do some many people get up there to trash it
looks like the top of a landfill, congrats on reaching the top, pffft.
Earth - Humanity's trash can. It's no wonder why aliens don't want to contact us.

They're not AAA batteries. They're AAA A cells. A cell is individual and a battery is a group of cells so yes, it's not exactly surprising that a battery has cells since that's what it's made up of.

It didn't 'change the way I see the world'. Can we stop with these c**p titles? They're really not necessary.
How about trying not to take everything so literally? It gives us a view of the world we probably haven't seen, which is basically the same thing.

I think Mt. Everest gets higher every year due to all the absolute garbage piled at the summit (and along the way, I understand). It's just so dangerous, no clean-up crew is going to casually climb the place to pick up all that litter.
Every team should be required to pack out everything they pack in. I never leave anything behind.

The 9 volt battery has 6 "AAAA" (quadruple A's) in it, not "AAA" (triple A's). And another battery that has this kind of construction is a A23 battery, there are 8 394 button cell battery's inside.
