Usually, when you read a history article or story, it's mostly just dry facts and your imagination. But an amazing photo gives something a bit different. It shows you how it all actually looked, letting you understand the historical moment more intimately. Whether it would be a historical landmark, a famous person or random old pictures of the past - they all have fascinating stories behind them, and we're just about to show you.
The brave photojournalists that took these interesting pictures saw the morbidity of wars, documented the creation of an atomic bomb and shot stills of most magnificent constructions being built. You might not be aware that the city of Tel-Aviv used to be just plain dunes or how someone looks after literally falling from space. Race Organizers Attempt To Stop Kathrine Switzer From Competing In The Boston Marathon. She Became The First Woman To Finish The Race, 1967
Another classic. And imagine how many ordinary picture from today will look unbeliebable like this one in a few decades.
I just to add some info: The male runners actually helped her finish. It was the organizers that tried to pull her out of the group. The men that ran with her protected her from others that was outraged that she was in the run.
Her boyfriend is the runner to her left...he looks like he is going to take that guy apart. Two things that are the greatest motivators: fear and love. We are witnessing both in this image.
Load More Replies...Really? Why? Why do humans make SUCH A BIG DEAL outta color, gender, beliefs? I'm simply astonished how we are truly killing ourselves every single day..from our own ignorance!
It looks as if the other runners are helping her by keeping the "official" away.
Actually, only the organizer Jock Semple, the guy trying to reach her in the picture, wanted to stop her. The other men were trying to help. Sorry but, not true. Bobbi Gibb was the first female. http://running.competitor.com/2016/03/boston-marathon/the-real-story-of-the-first-woman-to-run-the-boston-marathon_146715
What it doesn't say is that the male runners around her fought off the race organizers and protected her. True beauty!!
This photo is from 1967 and they barely let her finish. She had to sneak into the race and Switzer was harassed the entire 26.2 miles. Women were not allowed to compete in the Olympic Marathon until the LA Summer Olympics of 1984. Why? Well because doctors feared the strain would cause a women's uteri to fall right out, our they could possible become musclebound and grow hair on their chest. I would like these men birth a child!
Idiots!! This is exactly Perú right now. And if you get hurt, they blame you!
And more from the so-called greatest generation where men could beat women and children like mules and sexually molest their female employees
False headline. Bobbi Gibb 1966, 1967, 1968; Sara Mae Berman 1969, 1970, 1971
I won't explain why but this is probably the wrong caption for what you see. The media isn't always the way of the truth.
Bărbații ăia se simțeau inferiori şi încercau din răsputeri să arate contrarul. Din teama de a li se călca peste mândria lor de masculi...
See what I mean about the imbecile white yank male, they are even afraid of a single white woman, she should have spun around and kick a few of them in the bollocks, that would have taught them a lesson.
Wrong, the organizers never attempted to stop her. If anything this photo depicts them or other racers attempting to stop a bigoted spectator from getting to her. Even the governor was there to greet her at the finishing line.
'you're a woman so you can't run'...yeah makes sense.. how did these things even happen?!

How far we've come in the past couple of centuries....! We need people like this
What a fighter. Thank you Kathrine for taking the first step for women in the maraton. So brave. <3
Yeah like that old white guy a few pictures above, hanging around in some lightning cage doing nothing, probably plotting some racist or sexist plans.

Great collection of images that reflect human history. The good and the bad.
Most of these photos just prove we've done terrible things as humankind and never learn from any historical archive depicting so. :( Still, wonderful to learn so much from visuals of another era.
Nah. The very fact that you found the cruel ones troubling proves that we DID learn and are indeed improving. Maybe slowly, but certainly.
