Woman Gives Birth To Another Set Of Rare Identical Twins Against 10-Million-To-One Odds

A 27-year-old mother from Colorado, Casey Saunders, was blown away when an ultrasound revealed that she’s pregnant with another set of identical twins. At first, she thought that the technician was just kidding about seeing two heartbeats since the odds of getting pregnant with twins twice were highly unlikely. It turns out that life’s full of surprises. Last year, on December 1 she gave birth to beautiful twin girls.

Casey had identical twin boys Hayden and Cameron ten years ago when she was 17. The twin brothers were really excited when their mother broke the news of being pregnant again. Her partner Eugene Goree took the pregnancy reveal very well too. ‘He was surprised but really excited from the beginning.’ she told Daily Mail.

The chances for this woman to have another set of twins were around a .0014 percent, but that’s not all. It was later revealed that the twins she was expecting are monoamniotic monochorionic, meaning that the babies developed a shared placenta and amniotic sac. Chances of this occurrence were less than one in 10 million. Even though there was a high risk of umbilical cord entanglement and the beautiful babies were born 8 weeks premature, now Maya and Laia are healthy and doing very well.Check out the photos of this big family!

Am I the only one that notices that the boys are not half black?? So, she had twins from another man that is white and then pregnant from that black guy and got twins? Wow! She is the lucky one for sure.

I can't believe this post does not comment on the fact that both sets of twins are completely white. Now that is even MORE rare than having 2 sets of twins (and very rare that it happened TWICE!) and is quite amazing. It would've been equally amazing if all the kids were black with no trace of Caucasian characteristics. That should've been the main point of this post.

Genes are funny that way. But the older kids may have a different father (or not)

My next door neighbor just had two sets of twins in a row. First set is not/girl, then 20 months later are the new girl/girl set. Their life is insane. Completely natural...no family history or medical intervention.

I remember reading of a case where the second set even was born on the same day as the first, and by natural labor, not induced

My great grandparents had two sets of identical twins. I didn't know it was that rare.

That is truly incredible. I used to work in NICU, and we had many multiple births. It was always interesting to find out what type of twins we had been taking care of. They used to send the placenta to Pathology to determine this. We had some twins we swore were identical, only to find out they were fraternal. Twinning is an amazing science- there are quite a few different types. These babies are beautiful, too! Congratulations to the parents!

That is "double, double, double" and more double :). In the Netherlands we call children of mixed heritage "dubbelbloedjes" (doublebloods) instead of halfblood because they have a double heritage.

Congrats to the parents but where did the reported study maths? For a woman to have two sets it about 1 in 70,000 (as the quoted percentage supports, 0.0014% is equivalent to around 1 in 70,000). But as she had already had one set, the odds for this birth to also be identical twins were about 1 in 250 or 300. So not to exceptional at all. @stellermat: She did not beat any odds, the writer does not understand maths...

Peter Braat: You are missing the fact that the babies are Monoamniotic-Monochorionic twins. From Wikipedia: "Monoamniotic twins are rare, with an occurrence of 1 in 35,000 to 1 in 60,000 pregnancies." Still not 1 in 10 million, but not 1 in 250 either.

To JJ and John Smith: The "black guy" is the Father of the little girls. The 2 boys have a different Father from a previous relationship. The girls are bi-racial. Now, are we all on the same page?

Maybe the guy in the photo? It's possible to have children that are a different colour than you. My cousin is dark but his mum is white.
