Girl Explains Rape In 11 Tweets, And Everyone Must Read Them
It may be the year 2017, but some people still have a hard time understanding rape, and constantly look for ways to blame the victim. A North London girl took to Twitter to say it a little louder for the people in the back, and her visceral explanation of the heinous act struck a chord.
The user, who goes by the screen name @_clvrarose on Twitter and the pen name The Rose on her personal blog, posted her victorious thread on March 29th. With undeniable clarity, she broke down a side of rape that is too often ignored, and one that is disturbingly used as a defense for rapists in some cases. The entire thread earned over 6.9 thousand retweets and over 7 thousand likes, and created a wave of mutual understanding and support.

I agree with the text but... I believe most women don't get orgasms so easily and just from an intercourse. I was fighting for my life and thinking if they would kill me after they were done. An orgasm wasn't even close. But thank you for sharing this. People need to understand.

This is so important! Thank you for having the courage to talk about how women's bodies respond *to protect them* and distinguishing between that response and pleasure. Men's bodies also respond in involuntary ways, as you've pointed out. One of the things that's often traumatizing for men who have been anally assaulted is that they frequently have erections and orgasms during the assault because their prostate glands are stimulated. This is why some men fear that being sexually assaulted by other men means that they're "gay" when all that's happened is that their bodies have reacted involuntarily.
I hate that someone actually had to explain this. it's horrible. i just finished reading a book about this (speak by laurie halse anderson) it just makes me feel horrible

I was once married to a guy who thought it was great fun to tickle me even though I begged him not to. Meanwhile, just for the sake of exercise, I was taking an Aikido class. We often practiced a move meant to discourage anyone stupid enough to sneak up on us from behind but because I was the least talented student, our instructor kept saying that this was not for real-life situations. One day, the husband again snuck up behind me but he never got around to his old line of ''Sure you like it--you're laughing'' because a loud crunching noise emanating from his wrist stopped him cold. I had not consciously intended to use an Aikido maneuver on him : it was just my body reacting.

I am so thankful towards this person bringing such an issue to light. It's very sad to see that men, and women, go through this. With this persons Tweets, at least some people can get an understanding that even though our bodies get those sensations, doesn't mean that we particularly enjoy being touched in such ways, or forced to have non consensual sex. None of that is okay! I don't understand why people feel the need to force other people to do things that they do not want to do. People should just take a hint, and leave each other alone, when it comes to that!

The problem, and I can't highlight this enough here, is that when it comes to sexual assault most men have no way to quantify it - even when it happens to them. Society currently has almost no tolerance for a non-sexual male and the idea that all men are aggressively sexual by nature is basically ubiquitous. This means that when something happens and the victim is male, both the victim and those around him in most cases have a hard time separating fact from the societal notion of him being the initiator. It can be almost impossible for people to view a man as a victim in cases of rape and sexual assault on a subconscious level, even the victim will struggle. The above is true for women as well but is disproportionally more pronounced for men and leads to the large disparity in sympathetic understanding in most men and why post like the one above can be helpful for some.

This woman had no idea how important and profound her simple Tweets were when I reached out to her to ask for permission to use her Tweets in my presentations. This is information that even sexual assault trauma professionals aren't versed in. And many of the replies here show that most of the public isn't either. I know one thing by my experience and my body.If i do not want to have sex or if anybody force me to have sex i will not get a errection.And if i dont have a errection i wont get a orgasam.Thats how my body speaks.

Except that you're grossly underplaying the relationship between those two systems, not to mention their basic functions. The sympathetic and parasympathetic systems counteracting one another may be a rule of thumb but it isn't an all-or-nothing absolute. Plenty of male victims of rape (by both sexes) have to endure an unwanted erection, not because they're secretly enjoying it but because arousal isn't some abstract concept bound to the idea of consensual pleasure. It's mechanical. The penis can maintain an erection quite easily throughout an attack through sheer stimulation, most likely because the neurotransmitters are still being fired in spite of the victim's terror.
