Did you ever notice that the brain tends to retain the most random information instead of the one you actually need? For instance, how come I can recite Baby Got Back word by word, but can't possibly force my brain to remember my postcode? I'm sure I'm not the only one and this thread that recently went viral on Twitter proves just that. When one person asked, "What’s the most random fact you know?", people delivered. Some of the facts are lesser-known than the others, some you may have heard already - nonetheless, we still found them quite amusing to read. So, the people here at Bored Panda have made you a list of 45 random, but interesting facts that people shared on Twitter. Scroll down below to see all the entries and tell us in the comments below what's the most random fact that you know!

I’m not saying there aren’t extremely strong women out there and good for them, but this post is nonsensical. So one woman in one weight class is stronger than the strongest man in that same weight class. IN ONE CLASS. The strongest men in the world generally weigh 300-400 pounds. By the poster’s logic if a woman got to that size she’d be as strong or stronger. It’s simply not correct and it’s not sexist to say so...

I'm not saying you are wrong, I'm just wondering why you are sure "It’s simply not correct". Are there any studies comparing women and men of the same size and training lifting weights? Do we have statistics on the averages?

Sorry, but this statement is a false. One record proves nothing. There are plenty of medical studies on strength, muscle mass, force etc in men and women, and researchers also found that height and weight differences between men and women could explain only about half of the difference in strength. There are gender differences even in muscle fiber characteristics. So this "random fact" is a wishful thinking.

This is pretty misleading. It means that the female athlete squatted more than the record of her male counterpartfor the specific weight category. Generally speaking, men are vastly stronger than women. Likewise the heaviest lift records will always be held by men I.e. unconstrained by weight classification.

I am not convinced this is true. All other things being equal a 120 lb man at his proper weight is generally stronger than a 120lb woman at her proper weight.

I find this dubious. I know men smaller than me who are much stronger and women larger than me who are weaker. Sure there are diminishing returns involved with increasing muscle mass, but you would hardly say flies are stronger than humans and yet gram for gram, they kick a human's a*s. Also I just looked it up on Wikipedia and the Raw powerlifting watch and it doesn't appear to be true in any event or class I can see. Take Olympic weight lifting. At 55kg men = 294kg and women =227kg.

So, the average 170 lb woman is stronger than a 170 lb man? Lol! Hey, Grl Pwr! and all but that's just defies basic science. Women have a higher percent of body fat - on average. That's just how we're built due to hormones.

This isn't even remotely close to true, a simple google search shows that the 123 lb mens records are: 639lb squat, 391 lb bench, and 634lb deadlift. The 123lb womans record is: 418lb squat, 292lb bench, 529lb deadlift.

This girl is NOT a 123lb woman, but damn, this is impressive! "Becca Swanson (...) is currently the only woman ever to squat 854 pounds (equipped), only woman to bench press 600 pounds (equipped with bench shirt) and the only woman to deadlift 683 pounds (equipped). She is also the only woman ever to be part of the 2000 pounds club which means she is the only woman ever to total plus 2000 pounds in a meet on the same day." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Becca_Swanson

This is obvious c**p. It has been proven that men are physically stronger than women.

SHUT UP sure they are “proven” but we deal with way more c**p then you ever would in your entire life because we are women so you can shut your mouth stop talking s**t about people

well, this is true and partially not true. If you look at averages, men are stronger than women more consistently simply because of testosterone. Testosterone boosts muscle growth. So women have to work out harder to make up for muscle men get naturally. Now of course, there are outliers, like the amazing woman who set the powerlifting record. But again, that's an outlier and does not accurately demonstrate the average. But putting that aside, who cares? Men and women both have their strengths and weaknesses in different areas

It depends on your definition I guess. I could be wrong but don't men have higher muscle ratios on average? Regardless, a woman can easily do anything a man can if they try.

If you go to https://www.powerliftingwatch.com/records/ and look up men's records per event and compare to women's records per event you'll see that this is not true.

I always thought that men had more upper body strength and women more lower body strength based on the shapes of our bodies. It always made sense that would be the case because of the strength naturally needed to carry a child.

That's not exactly true. (Woman here) while that particular record is factual, men actually have greater bone and muscle density than women. Furthermore, that stat is an outlier, in every other weight category, men carry the advantage. As a former powerlifter, there is no shame in that. We have different structure and physiology.

Yes maybe the strongest woman is stronger than the strongest man. But on AVERAGE men are physically stronger and larger than woman.

I fail to see how this proves woman are stronger then men.there I sent much to prove much more then one woman was fabulously strong. Either or doesn't really bother me.

Lol, in just that weight class only? Sounds like the exception, not the rule. I’ll trade them my weight lifting capability for their corpus callosum.

the second fact does not prove the first. Power lifters are an outlier, an exception to the rule of averages. it does not mean that average women are stronger than average men, just that SOME women are stronger than SOME men, and the strongest woman happens to be stronger than the strongest man. I don't know if women on average are stronger than men, and I really don't think it matters. I do get annoyed by this kind of poor rationale. it hurts the message you are trying to convey, which I think is a good one.

Not true. A 5'9" man is stronger than a 5'9" woman. Upper body anyway. Only the woman has strength enough to put up with the man.

Just 2 words to all men out there...GIVE BIRTH ....try it without drugs....and do it 3 times in a little over 3 years.....THEN tell me all about your strength. Mind you I love me a strong male! But ya....give birth then we can haggle the specifics.

Just walking into the room where I had the thought usually does it for me. Generally, the reason that something in the room was reminding me to get/do something in the first place. I might forget what when I enter a different room, but when I walk back (normally, not backwards) the reason is still there and I'm reminded again.

In Britain, most foods are exempt from the value-added tax, but potato chips — known as crisps — and “similar products made from the potato, or from potato flour,” are taxable. However, it was decided that Pringles are exempt from the tax, mainly because they have less potato content than a potato chip.
