Every person wants to know everything there is to our existence. Small things, big things – it doesn't matter as long as we constantly feed our minds with bits of information. Besides, knowing stuff is good even if you understand that you'd probably never need that knowledge. Just think about it, curiosity is an essential part of our everyday life, all that social media, magazines, books, TV shows – we're always learning, yet we're never fully satisfied.

We want to know exactly how the universe was formed; we want to know if we'll be stuck in traffic on the way back home tomorrow and whether that new movie truly is as great as people say it is. Our brain constantly processes things, and sometimes all you need is to read about some facts to have a good night's sleep.

A member of one of Reddit's online communities asked fellow Redditors to share a few random facts that folks absolutely needed to know. The post received over 7K upvotes and 5.1K comments, revealing things about everything and anything.

Microorganisms called actinobacteria are mostly responsible for this lovely smell; the smell is because of the alcohol they produce after decomposing organic matter.

No. They do not shove them to the side. That's ludicrous. The two original kidneys remain in place and will ultimately shrink and become completely non-functionable.. The new transplanted kidney is placed, typically, in the lower right abdomen which is then connected to the bladder. There will always be a small pooched out area visible where the new kidney resides. My son is a transplant recipient. We are forever grateful for his anonymous donor who left this world.

(Former 25y transplant professional- you’re spot on … the kidneys are also often flipped to accommodate connecting arteries and veins and ureter- Knowing your son is doing well makes every minute of the calling worth it as well as fulfilling the gift of his donor … keep on keepin on…!!

Wow! That's amazing. There are so many people who are waiting for a healthy kidney. Perhaps we all want to leave something behind, to feel that we have made a difference. The priceless gifts from my son's donor saved a total of seven lives. We can only hope to be so remembered.

I'm currently on the transplant list for a kidney. My left one is where is supposed to be and my right one is behind my pelvic bone, so they'll put the new one where the right one should be. They biopsied the left, but can't get to the right, so we're assuming, since I still produce urine, that all of the function I do have is from the left. And why do I need a kidney if I still produce urine? Well, it's not a lot and what is produced is not filled with the toxins it should. I'l lucky because I can be a little more lenient with my fluid intake, whereas others are limited to 32 oz./day. That's it.

I received a kidney transplant on 10/9/21. Now I have three kidneys. The new one is located just above the fold between my right leg and abdomen, like where a pants pocket would be. I am very grateful for the donor who was able to give both kidneys to people. I am doing well.

Shelby, it is great to hear that you are doing well. My son is nearing his three year transplant anniversary. The first year was so very hard, but with time he became more tolerant of the immunosuppressive medications and their side effects. Be good to yourself. Each day you will get stronger. Donors and their families deserve our highest honor and respect for their gift of life. I am sending hugs and well wishes your way.

This is true. We have a family friend who has FOUR kidneys now. His two natural ones, that failed, in their natural positions, his first transplanted one, that eventually failed as well (after many years), and his newest transplant, that is working wonderfully, one on each side of his abdomen. He's skinny, and you can see his stomach sticks out a little, where the transplanted ones are. They feel kinda hard, lol. But as Joanie below said, no, they don't shove the old ones to the side. It's safest for the patient to just leave them alone, and put the new ones in, in front.

My transplant kidney is not near the site of either of the ones I was born with. It's at the front of my torso, about belt line. Apparently it's easier to put in there.

When I was going through all of the clinical protocols for my transplant, I asked about this. The surgeon told me it would be very complicated and unnecessary to take the original kidneys out, and in order to make connecting the new kidney up to the urethra easier, it's put in the abdomen in the front.
