Someone Noticed The Coolest Thing About The Way The Queen Matches Her Outfits, And We Can’t Unsee It
Being the Queen of the United Kingdom, based in a city like London, Queen Elizabeth quite naturally has to deal with rain. A lot of rain. Therefore it’s not unusual to see her out and about on official duties, braving the drizzle under an umbrella with her gracious nature and a smile.
But have you ever noticed that her umbrella and outfits almost always match? Since 1993, the Queen has used her preferred style of umbrella, the classic birdcage design made by Fulton. Naturally, being who she is, Queen Elizabeth gets hers custom made in a variety of shades, so they blend in perfectly with her vast array of outfits and hats.
It’s the piece of fashion inspiration we never knew we needed, especially with winter approaching! Scroll down below to check out old Queenie’s rockin’ rain style for yourself, and let us know what you think in the comments!

Share on FacebookHow did people not know that? She has the most curated wardrobe in the world and when she goes out, everything is perfect.
did you know the Queen has weights sewn into the bottom of her outfits so a stray gust of wind wont embarass her (Kate took note). They also dont press right to the hems in order that outfits and hemlines can be altered when needed
Load More Replies...And I notice she always carries a basic black handbag, and wears sensible black shoes.
Almost always wears black gloves (at least in most of these photo).
Load More Replies...I think it is kind of sweet - her holding her own umbrella with a grip of steel - rather than allow some fawning Courtier to follow 2 steps behind trying to shelter her - you really need to hold your own umbrella to get maximum shelter
It would be a bit awkward anyway, because the Queen is so petite.
Load More Replies...Well she's not going to have a single generic drugstore brolly like us plebs, right? You slay those 700 different umbrellas, Liz!
She is entitled to lots of umbrellas - must have a whole cupboard full
Load More Replies...but always wears her three strand pearl necklace and pearl drop earrings.
She's the Queen, if she wants matching brollies then who's going to argue?
If I were the queen I would rebel and wear trousers now and then so my legs would be warm.
That lady is tough as nails. She'd be comfortable in -20C weather in a skirt. And I know that for a fact, since that was what she wore during a trip to Ottawa in the middle of winter years ago.
Load More Replies...Love her smile, too. And look at Princess Charlotte's adorable smile. Inherited straight from Great Gran!!!
Load More Replies...She always looks perfect! Think she looks best in purple and that lime green outfit! What 90Y/O wears Lime green? She looked great in it!
I love that she wears bright colors. It was reported that Countess of Wessex explained her mother-in-law's penchant for rainbow shades. "She needs to stand out for people to be able to say 'I saw the Queen." Makes sense, as when she does make an appearance, the crowd is always at least 8-10 people/rows deep!
I have met the Queen on 3 occasions and of course watched her from afar as much as possible, for me she is one of the most gracious woman I have ever seen.
Does she have a lot of umbrellas or does she just change the border...this could start an all new trend!
I love her shoes! I am 77 and wish I could find some like that, within an affordable price range. Block heels for balance, wide toes for comfort, two inch or less heel height. And the design itself makes a very stylish shoe our of a sensible one.
This has always been a thing! she has them specially made with every outfit she has put together for her. One thing to note which i have always loved, unless she is having to work with both hands (putting down wreaths etc) she will always carry her own brolly and not have someone follow her round with one.
I don't understand the obsession with royal ladies' clothes. It is ridiculous. How many men enquire about the clothes of charles or his sons?
All of her hats are kept in place with a hat pin that is covered with the same material as the hat so that you don't see it, and so she never has to worry that her hat is going to blow off. She wears the same medium pink lipstick, the same earrings (tiny diamond with slightly dropped pearl), three strand pearl necklace, same short gloves in black or white for summer, all of her dresses and coats are just below the knee and slightly flared for comfort and no concern that something is too tight or revealing (no decollete ever), same style of purse in black, black patent, or white for summer, same nude hose, and same style of shoe like her purses in black, black patent, or white for summer with about a two inch heel. She wears brightly colored outfits so that people can see her (she isn't that tall!). This is her out and about "uniform"; she has much fancier stuff for formal evenings; tiaras, long gloves, and the Crown Jewels of England!
She uses the clear bubble umbrella so that she can be seen by the people she is visiting. Her ladies-in-waiting select and coordinate her outfits for her. She does wear outfits more than once, but they will change details, like the hat ornaments and collars so that she is never exactly the same twice. And she has many beautiful brooches (all with real gemstones, of course).
I'd love to talk to her umbrella maker that gets to match all those beautiful colors. I bet she has a room for all her broaches and beautiful jewelry.
We love our Queen - she is worth every penny and costs us less than a bag of chips per person per year
the US (The Donald) could take note of dignified, polite policies, no interfering in state matters and no irressponsible twittles
Load More Replies...I wouldn't mind being the person who has the contract to manufacture her umbrellas
She always wears bright colours because she worries that people wouldn't recognise her in beige!! Bless her, she has her picture in everyone's purse and pocket lmao!
if given a chance, i would like to see her in person, see how she carries these clothes so queenly (pardon the pun) and the way she smiles like there's nothing wrong with her world! and she's quite a looker even at her age. my mom is also in her 90's, 95 exactly, and she has not looked any far from her looks when she was younger. some people get lucky maintaining their good looks through the years, and the queen is one of them!
And I noticed TWO pair of shoes. And BTW - black shoes go with EVERYTHING. And they look comfortable - something I'd give a lot for that didn't cost $100 or more. ;'(
The umbrellas are something I've always loved about Her Royal Majesty. I have several myself, but, of course, mine don't match nearly as perfect as Her Royal Majesty's. I match watches, belts, purses and shoes as well as the occasional scarf or hat.
Elizabeth is the consummate professional, she's been doing this job for over 60 years, how many others can say that?
how about the gloves? she's also wearing black or white gloves in every picture.
she is a well known perfectionist and there is nothing surprising in her matching outfits!
What is that wicked looking bruise/sore on her leg in the second picture?!
She's a human being. You're trying to tell me that you don't get random mystery bruises too?
Load More Replies...Didn't the Penguin also have a nice collection of umbrellas too!
Shocking. I do the same thing and I am not the queen. I thought this was a typical girl thing to do. You can't have a clashing umbrella.
All my umbrellas are black - they never clash with my coat, handbag or shoes - simplicity
Load More Replies...God Save the Queen - Long to rain over us. Seriously though it's nice to see her using that style of umbrella - a posh copy of the cheap ones originating from the 60's and 70's rather than style filtering downwards. All so nobody misses seeing her face despite the weather. Bless you Your Majesty.
Yes I remember the clear "bubble" umbrellas being popular when I was a kid in the 1970's. Heard the Queen uses these umbrellas so her subjects can still see her when she's out and about in the rain.
