This Person Has Been Secretly Logging Into Their Mom’s YouTube Account To Help Her Continue With Her Normal Life During The Pandemic
In light of a lot of countries all over the world going into quarantine due to the coronavirus pandemic and health officials recommending that people stay home and isolate themselves or at least practice social distancing, more and more people every day are struggling to continue with their normal day-to-day lives.
While some people manage to have pretty wholesome social experiences while social distancing, some are struggling with seeing their partners 24/7 and maintaining healthy relationships while trying to work from home, others are fighting the ghosts of their past and fall into their long-forgotten bad habits. This person shared their attempt to help their elderly mother proceed with her normal daily life during the lockdown.

An Imgur user who goes by nickname Alphacarotene has recently confessed to logging into their mom’s YouTube account
It is nearly impossible to turn on the TV or scroll through any social media channel without being hit by a heavy fall of negative news regarding the coronavirus pandemic. Even though it is long known that the emotional content of television programs, films, and social media content can affect us psychologically and have an impact on our moods and behavior, most of us still allow ourselves to indulge in feasting our eyes on some kind of media.
While you could think that’s violating her privacy, it is all done in an attempt to help her continue her normal life and not fall back into the hands of depression
Graham C. L. Davey, Ph.D. a Professor of Psychology at the University of Sussex, UK, says that “not only are negatively valenced news broadcasts likely to make you sadder and more anxious, they are also likely to exacerbate your own personal worries and anxieties.”
“We found that those people who had watched the negative news bulletin spent more time thinking and talking about their worry and were more likely to catastrophize their worry than people in the other two groups,” he says.
It appears that people who spend more time indulging in negative media are more likely to collapse into their own terrors and negative emotions, therefore it’s especially dangerous for people with mental health issues or depressive tendencies, such as Imgur user Alphacaroten’s mother.

Share on FacebookI think this is a loving thing for you to do for your mother. The "Christian" right is poisonous. I refer to them as pseudo-Christians, because virtually everything they do is un-Christian. I'm a Christian, albeit a bad one. I'm also a liberal democrat. I wonder if all nonreligious people know that most if not all religions have a right and a left, like in politics. Right-wing pseudo-Christians love conspiracy stories. They were the "birthers," and they're always going to be "truthers." I understand how much harm they can do to a susceptible mind. God bless you for trying to improve the quality of your mothers life.
I grew up Catholic and my husband a few years ago had a near death experience and a religious awakening. He has pushed me so far from religion that I don't even consider myself Christian again because he was trying to get me closer to god. I was fine with God before. But because of the far right better than thou Christian he has become I am now agnostic. And happier than I've ever been. He's tried to push my boys into religious conspiracy theories and I've took them aside and told them not to listen. That THEY get to choose what to believe. This started about 4 years ago and has not been so bad this last year but the damage toward me with religion stuck. A bad drug spell in my 20's didn't do as much damage as he tried to do with religuon.
Load More Replies...I don't know how the Google team created their insane algorithm on YouTube, but it's awful. I watched one 5-minute video about the Concorde last week, and immediately my recommendations were for planes, airplane crashes, cars, car crashes, tanks (!!!), and weird conspiracy c**p. I mean, literally it went from 0-rocket launcher AND was sweeping away all my cooking/indie music/Richard Ayoade-David Mitchell-Noel Fielding reccos. I had to repeatedly re-search all the subjects I liked as well as keep clicking "Don't Recommend This Channel" on these horrible videos for days, and it's still not let up. Meanwhile, this young man cares about this mother, and bless him for looking out for her mental health.
Good for you!! Maybe you can also put in positive hymns from YouTube and read calming passages from Psalms. In the Bible. I'm Catholic andi find those the most comforting. May God be with you.
For the win! Endless cheers for making the world better for your mom - the ripples will carry!
There are no *positive* religious videos about the current situation?
There are, those are the ones that he allows. It's a problem, because of Youtube's algorithm that recommends increasingly extreme content
Load More Replies...This is actually a great idea. I'll probably fo it next time my ma takes a shower. She's gone down a nasty rabbit hole during the corona outbreak.
Maybe you should also get her to therapy, she's clearly suffering from mental illness
Cant decide if this another low key "christianity is bad" post or not.
Christianity is fine, for the most part. It's the Christians that are terrible.
