Tattoo Artist Who Lost His Arm Gets World’s First Tattoo Machine Prosthesis

A lot of people have tattoos, and each tattoo is special in its own little way. But few tattoos are as special as the ones created by JC Sheitan Tenet. Why? Because the tattoo artist doesn’t do them by hand. He does them by prosthetic hand!

Take a look below to see what we’re talking about. Amazed? Confused? I think we’re both. Tenet, who is based in Lyon, France, lost his arm 22 years ago. He received the world’s coolest prosthetic courtesy of French artist JL Gonzal, who modified an existing arm prosthesis to accommodate the tattoo machine.

I think that it's fantastic to be able to do what you love even with a handicap❣

Why is this thing not wrapped in a plastic bag? Sanitize this thing just like all other tattoo guns.

First, it's a machine, not a gun. Second, current studies are still not agreeing on the effects of wrapping a machine within a bag, the cords themselves should be wrapped, surfaces as well, but for machine, there's microspray coming up through the tube itself and unto the machine (or in the air). A bag will only serve as a big catch-all for said spray and cause more contamination. In all cases, you machine should never come into contact with the client's skin, so it's kind of a moot point you're making.

Just two things Tattoo Machines are way smaller. I would wonder what all the rest of that c**p does. Second how does he fit that in an autoclave.

Most of it is just fancy steam-punk/diesel-punk art, the tatto needle is just the bit at the tip.

The only issue i see is that it looks like tye bottom part of the prosthetic is coming in contact with the fresh tattoo. This can spread germs and other not so fun stuff. So if they can figure out a way to keep it from. Coming into contact with the skin. Happy for him.

They say life is how you make it. Sometimes it's how you take it... on the chin and still stand tall as a giant in spite of the hits. Hats off to you sir for being that kind of person who shows us what humankind is capable of despite ourselves.

You can not possibly feel pressure or anywith that thing. Goofy steampunk esthetics only. Learn to use your other hand.

Try learning to write with your other hand that you don’t normally use, and to do be able to do it as well as you would with your hand you’ve always used, not very easy.

Pretty controversial imo. On one hand nothing says 'you are your job' like this which is pretty scary. On the other maybe it would have been too much a handicap to do tattooing with a normal prosthetic hand and he genuinely loved it.

If they can do that, then surely a machine gun arm like Barrett in FFVII is possible! Love it.

I have a REAL problem with the cross contamination exposure. By the time he's done the prostheses is covered with airborne bodily fluids. If you have a tattooist work on you without gloves and with a machine that is not with plastic you should run away and find an artist that cares about your and his health. The problems can be addressed simply, but he is just not taking the minimal precautions.
