Kayla Runkel and her husband are high school sweethearts as well. Explaining their relationship, she said that, the feelings she felt for her partner when she was 17 may have dulled in excitement, but not in passion. "This past September, we celebrated ten years together as a couple and nearly five years of marriage. While most people have to secretly cyber stalk their old high school flames on Facebook or flip through old black and white yearbook pages, I simply have to look across the room."
"Sure, our conversations can be slow at times, having exhausted our list of unheard stories years ago. But that means we have reached a level of comfort in silence that with anyone else would seem awkward," she wrote on Her View From Home. "I love that I can spend a whole day with him without saying a word and still feel completely fulfilled by his presence alone."
"I have loved him through his baby-faced, acne-covered years, and he has loved me through childbirth and a few too many DIY hair dying disasters. We have been study partners, birthing partners, late night feeding partners, and everything in between."
And this really is what's so wonderful about their experience. Everything they have today, they built together. Again, these words shouldn't put other couples -- those, who met later in their lives -- beneath them. Every relationship is different and beautiful in its own way. It's how you feel about it that matters the most.

My hubby and I started dating in 2002, I was 16 and he was 18. This year we have been together for 17 years and married for 11 years.
Congratulations! My husband and I were 2 years of long distance since 2008 (I was 18, he was 24, so I was very private and reserved about this relationship in the beginning, as I didn't want judgemental acquaintances to spread rumor), then living together since 2010, then married since 2016. "It's been a looooong road..." ♬♪ (yep, Star Trek Enterprise, for the geek couple ♥).

I also married my high school sweet heart. We do thing a little different in South Africa. We have a matric farewell. Which is basically the grade 12 prom I think?? Any way. I was in grade 9 and my husband in grade 11 when we started dating. I went to his matric farewell and he to mine. That was in 1995 and 1997 respectively. 2001 we got married, had 2 sons and are still married. We even work for the same company now.
Most of these photos were between 5-10 years apart from the dates listed... which means these are HS sweethearts that stayed together AND waited until later to get married. *heart's growing bigger* there's real statistical proof that if you wait until at least later 20's you have much better odds of the marriage lasting

I love how so many of the women in these pictures haven't changed much looks wise, they look so young and beautiful. Where as the men have really filled out and look so much more mature than the high school pics.
while the pics are cute, I can't help thinking people have no idea how important it is to be an independent human before having a life partner. I hope they went their own ways between prom and wedding and then got back together.
You can be an independent human being AND have a life partner. Codependent relationships are a problem regardless of age. There’s no reason to take a break if the relationship is healthy.

I've always noticed that while guys may want to DATE the hottest chick in high school, that's not who they marry. Or, as my husband -- who worked in a pretty business (TV) always says -- pretty is just that. Pretty. After all, there were lots of pretty ones, but somehow, he married me!
That's neat and all, but if you really want to impress us add the divorce pics.
Wonder why it took so long from prom to wedding in some of these. I had a friend that said her boyfriend of 4 years proposed and she said she wasn't sure if she should say yes. I said..then he's not the one. Before we married, I knew my husband a total of 7 weeks. From the time we first met..I knew he was the one. We celebrated 29 years recently! Sometimes it may take a while to get to know someone. But if you have doubts about marrying..then you need to keep looking. There is someone out there that you are meant to be with. And you'll find them when you least expect it..and you'll know as soon as you meet them that they are the one.
My husband and I started dating senior year of high school and got married one year after graduating college. Never occurred to us to get married while in college.
