Phone Scammers Accidentally Call A Programmer, Regret It Immediately
1.6Mviews
Phone scams may be getting more and more clever by the day, but one office full of phony IRS agents made a decidedly dumb move when they called a computer programmer who happens to specialize in scam prevention.
The programmer and Redditor, who goes by the username YesItWasDataMined, but operates an anti-scam operation called Project Mayhem, received a voicemail from someone claiming to be an IRS employee. When he called them back and was asked to pay a massive fine for unclear reasons, he knew immediately that he was being had – and came up with a genius way to pull the plug on them. He wrote a script that called each of their phones 28 times per second with an automated message, tying up their lines and making it impossible to reach other potential victims.
The actual IRS recently published a report declaring these kinds of schemes a “major threat to taxpayers,” and estimates that over 10 thousand victims have been affected since 2013, collectively being defrauded of more than 54 million dollars.
Project Mayhem’s official YouTube channel now proudly features a hilarious 10-minute sample of the havoc wreaked upon the unfortunate scammers, which has already gained over 1 million views. Watch it below, and always remember to protect yourself against any suspicious requests for your private information.

Maaaan, world needs more people like you!!! thanx a lot!
What I really appreciate is that you google their new phone number and hunt them down.
At 8:25, he said "he's calling us from 10 to 15 numbers at the same time, the [call] waiting list is full of his numbers, he must be one of those guys with tattoos, yeah, that place is full of guys with tattoos (wtf??)" Hindi is not my native language, so this translation might not be accurate, but I tried to get as close as I can. :)
Thank you!
You're awesome. You have probably saved quite a few people from losing their life savings. Unfortunately statistics show that the elderly are usually the ones who fall for these calls.
I think you are the first person to give me actual hope in a long time, thank you for doing what you do, for saving so many people from pain
So... according to these guys, tattoos are.... bad... but scamming people is okay. Got it. LMAO!! This is the most epic scam of scammers ever. From one dev to another, I salute YesItWasDataMined. The world needs more like you.
It sounds to me that according to them that guys with Tattoos have MAD SKILLS!!! lmao
tattoo means shit in hindi, like dirty or shitty. Btw, this is awesome, to see those scammers get a dose of their own medecine :)
So epic!!! That is the best, scamming the scammers!! ☎️🔫
Yup, sounds accurate.
I can confirm that what Aman Kp translated is correct. But the tattoo bit was not connected to the call waiting bit. I think that was a different conversation he had going with "Sunny". Also: to put some color around it -- all the male voices in the latter half sounded north indian -- probably from the delhi area from their hindi dialect. The lady in the first half who asked for the wells fargo account etc had a strong Maharashtrian twang to her english accent so she was probably from the Mumbai area. This could even be a multi city operation.
The second line mentioning tattoo is some thing else.. I did not hear him say "he must be one of those guys" He was taking to a guy name "sunny" but I Couldn't exactly understand what he said.. :(
Thanks for the translation! I think the word tattoo means horse in Hindi, but I am not sure, I don't speak much Hindi at all I've just spent a bit of time around people who do. Maybe trying to say America is full of cowboys? It's a reach, I know...
The Tattoo they are mentioning here in the recording means the same tattoo that you know(getting ink).. Horse in hindi means "Ghoda" however a small horse/pony means "Tattu".
