Professor Quizzes Students On Heterosexuality, Completely Shuts Down Homophobes
For LGBTQ people, especially those living in less tolerant spheres, ignorant questions about their identities are painfully common. A university professor in Florida decided to take a stand against it by turning the tables, and asked the same questions of heterosexual students in the class. The satirical quiz was shared on Twitter by one of their students, and is going viral for all the right reasons.
Reactions to the post included standard flare-ups of homophobia, stoic disapproval, and people who just didn’t get the joke. But an overwhelming majority of the responses praised the teacher and their courage. The tweet has also been shared by over 17k users, meaning the discussion is going far beyond the classroom.
High-five to this progressive prof for advocating another technique that just might help foster some more understanding in our severely divided world.

Share on FacebookMy favorite is when straight men ask "how do you know you won't like sex with a man, if you've never tried it?" My response that usually silence them into deep thought is typically "how do you know YOU won't?"
I think it's a great idea.... put yourself in the place of someone else who is "different"
Not a choice, but procreation is a natural and biological fact. Just respect others whatever they feel atracted to.
Really ? So a straight couple where the woman can't have baby is a second class relationship ? Or a relationship where both of them DON'T want children ? you're implying that the only valid relationship is the one where people have children, and everything else is just "a relationship based on attraction". It's time that people keep their condescending religious b******t out of other people's life, feel free to have as many children as you want, but don't reduce a relationship to procreation only, this is not middle-age anymore...

I have been asked some of the most personal and invasive questions, especially about my sex life, and almost exclusively from straight men. It's like a lot of them get off on wanting to know the details, but still oppose women being married. Sorry, but you can't get off on the idea, and not support the right for equality. It's sick.
Load More Replies...I could care less what the next person sexuality is and why they are as they are. It's not my business and I just don't give a damn.
Reading these comments actually makes me angry, and confused. How can people not understand that love is love no matter what the gender of the person is. I myself am gay and at first I hated myself, I thought I was abnormal, I didn't want to love girls but I do and I have learned to accept and love myself for this. Did you know many young gays actually attempt suicide due to who they love, if it was a choice why would they choose to be gay if it causes them to do that? I completely support this professor's way of going about educating young adults on homosexuality and I wish I had a teacher like this who openly told me that what I am feeling is okay. People need to think before they say things about something they don't understand.
Do homosexuals seduce others into their lifestyles? O.o My friends don't do that to me ...
That's because its a false stereotype. I have more straight friends than gay, and I've never once tried to get with any of them. we KNOW you can't choose your sexuality, so trying to seduce a straight person is completely pointless.
Load More Replies...It always struck me as bizarre and dishonest when people felt they had to choose a gender. Love connects souls, and great sex connects bodies. There is so much out here its so sad that people put themselves in a box. From a very young age parents talk about what girl their boy favors in school or princess and prince's from disney. And I always thought ummm why do I have go pick a boy? I grew up to not have a preference. Its so sad that some people dont get these simple points. Then you look at the coorelation btwn homophobes and education/intellect and you have an aha moment. I wonder how the idiots feel when they know their views are literally in side step coorelation with less educated folk. Lol . Science is telling you youre a dumbass. Listen to that science dolls. Wish you all the best!
Does anyone actually think like this? like really? its almost like they still want this mind-set to continue to pose these questions to "really make you think". There is nothing wrong with being gay or anything else on the spectrum. Unless this is in a campus in deep church country I don't see the need for it.
Just read the comments to see how some people think...

We all accept each other, regardless of their sexual preferences, lifestyle, religion or colour. We are a very diverse country, therefore it is totally acceptable. The countries you live in might not be and I feel very sad about that. I cannot imagine how bad the situation must be if your gay in other countries.
Good job, prof! You get an A+ for teaching kids about the real world.
I still don't get why "choice" or "no choice" is even an argument. It's an irrelevant consideration seeing that I am a self-aware, intelligent, autonomous entity - I am more than capable of making personal choices for myself. It's an insult to even try to make an argument out of it. We all have the right and should have the dignity to make choices for ourselves in life, the choice of who we love most especially.
part 2 see part 1 below first. ....nless you mean in the kantian moral phylosophy's take on autonomous. where a person follows MORAL duties rather than ones DESIRES. and contradicting this would take an entire page. and entity? whats with the veil of mystery and attempt at seeming wise. Dont be so pompous! you are a BEING. and lastly you emphasize choice and choice of person to love. The ENTIRE POINT was that it may not be a choice of who we love or are attracted to. So in closing you can drop off the intelligent descriptor from your post as well.

I also don't appreciate when people try to make it my business by telling me. If people would keep their politics, religion and sexuality to themselves, we'd get along much better as a species.
Yes. It's such a big fuss because of all the people who don't know how to keep their nose out of other people's businesses.

I think that anyone can be curious without being bigoted. I often wonder things about my gay friends, and I ask them. They are good friends and answer me, not all who question are homophobes. "LGBTQ people are often subjected to ignorant, embarrassing interrogations about their identities" Maybe you should understand that we don't want to be be "ignorant" that's why we ask questions. We try hard to be tolerant, you should too, yes I know there are those who are jerks out there, but not all who ask questions are. We are curious and interested. I have never judged a person because of their sexual preference and never will. Please don't assume you are under attack when we ask about your lifestyle, enlighten us, some people really need to be en-lighted.
I'm cringing in advance at the lower half of the comments of this article. It's going to be a nightmare, isn't it?
I haven't really encountered such questions, or any homophobic people before so I am kind of curious what it feels like to be in the shoes of those gay people who encountered them. But whenever I read articles about it, it makes me wonder why they do that.
You don't have to be curious anymore-I'll tell ya. It's awful

* A combination of biology and the experiences (environment), but also personal choices seem to factor into these things. Sexuality seems to be quite malleable. *A constant choice. Deciding what to be and what not to be is to a great extent a person's ongoing choice. Some things one maybe can't control, but it is usually better not to limit Yourself mentally by saying "I couldn't be". There is always the chance YOU could. *Yes it is. * Well religions try to keep me from flaunting it, but I quite like charming women. * I don't. Sexuality propaganda does exists though, from both sides, used to turn kids into something based on an ideology. you are simple minded and uneducated. homosexuality exists in MANY species naturally and has a distinctive benefitial role in evolution and survival. for one itty bitty example homosexually inclined female apes tended to reproduce more frequently. WOW its amazing what learning can unlock isnt it!?
