I’m Honestly Fed Up With All The Bad News, So I Illustrated 50 Of The Best Ones From 2019
We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.
However, while it’s important to report on problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that it needs to be found and promoted just as widely.
Because of that, I started The Happy Broadcast. It's an anti-venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. Also, this year, I’ve illustrated even more happy news than in 2018.
We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little.

When I'm working on The Happy Broadcast, I try to pick news that has an international appeal and touches themes like animal rights, climate change and science. News that shows how much we’re progressing on many fronts despite being often bombarded with few-mongering headlines.
I am so happy for their victory, but just find it bonkers that an indigenous tribe had to fight a legal battle to protect their land in the first place.
I think there are many reasons why negative news is dominating the media. It's like a sudden disaster a, it's more compelling than, for example, little improvements. Bad things can happen quickly, but good things aren’t built in a day, and as they unfold, they're out of sync with the news cycle.
As humans, we have this thing called “negative bias” that make us respond quicker to bad or dangerous situations. Nowadays, this bias is getting in the way of our happiness and well-being, and even our productivity because most of the narrative surrounding us (print, online or mobile) is that the “world is ending".
I think we should find a balance between negative and positive news. From politics to climate change and economy, negative and bad news surrounds us everywhere we go. A potential solution could be to limit the amount of bad news, basically slow down our personal news cycle, adding some positive news to our “news diet” to make sure that our outlook on the world is more optimistic. Also, it's very important to invest time to deal with misinformation and the reliability of news sources.
Hm, I think Sweden must have forgot to apply then. We dont have stray dogs, at least for decades. Any lost dog gets collected, if no owner is found it gets adopted via Animal Protection. I have seen one or two lost dogs, where we found the owner, but never a genuine stray.
And stop butchering seals. That's your next step, Canada!

Fun fact: most animal professionals in the animal care field give their animals far superior care to any lay cat or dog owner. This kind of policy is ignorant and yields to false narratives of cruelty propagated by organizations that, ironically, murder thousands of animals (coughPETAcough)

The Taiji hunting season is on and they just captured and slaughtered a pod of Melonhead whales. Check out Ric O'Barry's site. They have onsite witnesses to each day's hunt. It's a terrible thing.

Those shows are becoming less popular so I would not be surprised to see it in the USA. Also animal free circuses are very popular.

You do realize this comment sounds like you just crawled out from under a bloody rock. As a somewhat wordly Canadian, please stop watching all the PETA c**p that keeps cycling videos of seals being clubbed from the 70's.......most seals are dispatched with a gun now and the only the Inuk people are aloud to use a club. Seal babies or white coats have been illegal to hunt since 1987.....their are well over 7.7 million harp seals. It is a way of life that you do not want/or wish to understand. Might I suggest reading articles that were posted in the National post or how about Wikipedia, or better yet go read the Newfoundlan and Labrador fisheries information on sealing.

This ought to be the way the world works, with every country. Sustaining it's wild population instead of capturing and killing...for entertainments sake?

If you really want to see these beautiful creatures go see them in there natural habitat. I agree, this should be everywhere.
Sanity prevails, totally unnecessary to have them performing for humans that is not what they do. To keep them in captivity is cruel the same as someone being kept in a cell for their life time.
if a zoo keeps them to help with conservation and scientific research (also for conservation), and helps injured and sick wild ones, are they allowed to do shows (which can help and act as a form of physical therapy for some)?

A law should be passed stopping the keeping of ALL animals in captivity,

The US needs to do this. We have too many animals in captivity just for the pleasure of people.
I'm a Canadian and am pleased to know that this bill is in place to help protect sea life .
If animals are able to escape, do they? Or do they explore and then come back (like cats)? It’s literally possible to get the opinions of the animals on this issue. If Marine World is a nice gig I wouldn’t want to take that away from them.

It still amazes me that the blue whale is the largest animal that has ever lived on earth. It took an asteroid to kill most dinosaurs, hope we are not the reason for something even bigger to go extinct one day. Ok I know not 100% related to this story as they don't use blue whales for entertainment

SOOOO not against this! But....shouldn't it be equal pay for equal skill? (meaning, no race, gender, age, or any discrimination at all!) If you have more skill in the task, you get paid more, if you have less you get paid less. Plain and simple (yet I know it is more difficult to prove wrong-doing that way too)

Posts like these give me faith in humanity. Don't get me wrong, it's important to be informed about world issues, but it's nice to escape that every once in a while and know how far we've come.
Life is calmer when people take care of their little spheres in the world and stop obsessing about the whole world. People who mire themselves in the world's problems start to see people as the enemy.

This is a great post and many of these are amazing things, the problem is that the more we keep people alive and the longer they live the bigger the population gets which isn't sustainable. So it's a double edged sword. It's a catch-22.

I think a balance is better. Transparency reduces corruption. Confidentiality "divides and conquers" unity in humanity. All CULTures reduce free thinking and truer happiness. Imagine developmentally disabled having equal power and wealth to intellectuals.
When I read these good news headlines, it helps me realize that we are making progress. Yes, there's a lot of bad news in the world, but good news is just as plentiful when we look for it. Good news is healing. I'm sharing this on all my social media pages!

We can have the world be mostly fantastic and turn things around. But we have to withdraw from bank issued money. There's been a ton of great news lately though, communists got BTFO'd in a lot of western countries, the US economy is doing great, brexit is finally going to go through without impedance. Overall SJW's are losing and the people are regaining some of their power.
