We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.

However, while it’s important to report on problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that it needs to be found and promoted just as widely.

Because of that, I started The Happy Broadcast. It's an anti-venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. Also, this year, I’ve illustrated even more happy news than in 2018.

We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little.

More info: Instagram

When I'm working on The Happy Broadcast, I try to pick news that has an international appeal and touches themes like animal rights, climate change and science. News that shows how much we’re progressing on many fronts despite being often bombarded with few-mongering headlines.

I am so happy for their victory, but just find it bonkers that an indigenous tribe had to fight a legal battle to protect their land in the first place.

I think there are many reasons why negative news is dominating the media. It's like a sudden disaster a, it's more compelling than, for example, little improvements. Bad things can happen quickly, but good things aren’t built in a day, and as they unfold, they're out of sync with the news cycle.

As humans, we have this thing called “negative bias” that make us respond quicker to bad or dangerous situations. Nowadays, this bias is getting in the way of our happiness and well-being, and even our productivity because most of the narrative surrounding us (print, online or mobile) is that the “world is ending".

I think we should find a balance between negative and positive news. From politics to climate change and economy, negative and bad news surrounds us everywhere we go. A potential solution could be to limit the amount of bad news, basically slow down our personal news cycle, adding some positive news to our “news diet” to make sure that our outlook on the world is more optimistic. Also, it's very important to invest time to deal with misinformation and the reliability of news sources.

Hm, I think Sweden must have forgot to apply then. We dont have stray dogs, at least for decades. Any lost dog gets collected, if no owner is found it gets adopted via Animal Protection. I have seen one or two lost dogs, where we found the owner, but never a genuine stray.

SOOOO not against this! But....shouldn't it be equal pay for equal skill? (meaning, no race, gender, age, or any discrimination at all!) If you have more skill in the task, you get paid more, if you have less you get paid less. Plain and simple (yet I know it is more difficult to prove wrong-doing that way too)

Also in the US people (especially black people) are worried about calling an ambulance for a friend who's mentally unstable and acts erratically, because the police might show up and they don't want to get their friend killed

I find it very interesting that so many of these wonderful initiatives are from the Scandinavian countries. People are happier there because they have robust social safety nets. That security gives their citizens the hope and the energy to tackle entrenched problems. I can barely make it through the day with every gut punch from Trump, worrying about health care and aging, never mind trying to save the planet and all its precious diversity.

All societies need to remove the stigma associated with ANY form of disease or illness, but especially mental illness, since it is often a silent killer. People are NOT ill because they are sinful or unworthy or guilty of something. They are ill because of biology, environmental factors, economic factors, bad politics, stressful situations, abuse by others, etc.

The Netherlands has them too! It's very successful in one city. Not so much in Amsterdam because the pilot had too large an area to cover. But the idea of having psych nurses in stead of policemen responding is a great idea.

Considering the fact that, forty years ago in the US, we emptied our mental institutions, with the intention of monitoring patients in their homes to be sure they stayed on their meds, which allowed them to lead productive lives. However, once those institutions were closed down, our government didn’t fund the monitoring, and just left patients on their own. Many of them ended up in jail or homeless and on the streets. If they’d just set up and adequately staffed mobile units like these, we could’ve prevented so much needless suffering. Our government comes up with a lot of great ideas, and even starts putting some of them into practice, but they rarely follow through and fund them so they can function properly, if they fund them at all.

I remember when they kicked everyone out of the hospitals... suddenly there were homeless everywhere, especially in the park across the street from my school in California. It was the 1970's. Kids teased these poor confused people endlessly. One young man seemed very kind... He was probably only 25. I gave him my lunch every morning when I saw him. He never said a word to me, but his eyes told me everything. So sad and scared, but kind and somehow hopeful. I still think about him all these 40 years later. I hope he eventually got the help he so desperately needed.

I did not fail them. Suicide has complex causes, and people are not to blame when someone takes his or her life. That kind of guilt and self-recrimination destroys families after a family member commits suicide. Please stop making light of a complicated mental-health issue. Usually clinical depression is the cause not society.

Though "they" are talking about to put off the suicide hot line because they only have time to answer 2/3 of the 30000 calls and it costs too much to expand the last 1/3 so it's easier to put off the whole service

Brilliant idea that would save lives! Many Paramedics treat mentally ill or suicidal people like a burden or a waste of time. This could help people in crisis get direct access to the help they need rather than them sitting all night in A and E where staff don't know what to do with them. I wish medics had specific mental health training but it's sadly lacking,

Sorry for the negativity here: but the mental health system in Sweden is way too bad.. leads people to commit suicide or end up without money or help. People need to get help but a thrown between different doctors, phycaciatrics, hospitals like a tennisball. Its not just one or two cases there are many documentaries about this, demonstrations where hundered of people attend to remind everyone who passed away because of this s****y system..

Although the use of solar panels is green, many solar panel manufacturing processes are not. To create a solar panel, caustic materials will emit greenhouse gases. Plus less than 11% of each panel has salvageable metals so they're not very recyclable once they're usable life has expired. Most people aren't aware that the 'green' alternatives often aren't.
