I’m Honestly Fed Up With All The Bad News, So I Illustrated 50 Of The Best Ones From 2019
We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.
However, while it’s important to report on problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that it needs to be found and promoted just as widely.
Because of that, I started The Happy Broadcast. It's an anti-venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. Also, this year, I’ve illustrated even more happy news than in 2018.
We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little.

When I'm working on The Happy Broadcast, I try to pick news that has an international appeal and touches themes like animal rights, climate change and science. News that shows how much we’re progressing on many fronts despite being often bombarded with few-mongering headlines.
I am so happy for their victory, but just find it bonkers that an indigenous tribe had to fight a legal battle to protect their land in the first place.
I think there are many reasons why negative news is dominating the media. It's like a sudden disaster a, it's more compelling than, for example, little improvements. Bad things can happen quickly, but good things aren’t built in a day, and as they unfold, they're out of sync with the news cycle.
As humans, we have this thing called “negative bias” that make us respond quicker to bad or dangerous situations. Nowadays, this bias is getting in the way of our happiness and well-being, and even our productivity because most of the narrative surrounding us (print, online or mobile) is that the “world is ending".
I think we should find a balance between negative and positive news. From politics to climate change and economy, negative and bad news surrounds us everywhere we go. A potential solution could be to limit the amount of bad news, basically slow down our personal news cycle, adding some positive news to our “news diet” to make sure that our outlook on the world is more optimistic. Also, it's very important to invest time to deal with misinformation and the reliability of news sources.
Hm, I think Sweden must have forgot to apply then. We dont have stray dogs, at least for decades. Any lost dog gets collected, if no owner is found it gets adopted via Animal Protection. I have seen one or two lost dogs, where we found the owner, but never a genuine stray.
SOOOO not against this! But....shouldn't it be equal pay for equal skill? (meaning, no race, gender, age, or any discrimination at all!) If you have more skill in the task, you get paid more, if you have less you get paid less. Plain and simple (yet I know it is more difficult to prove wrong-doing that way too)
This is fantastic. Sooooo many people end up in jail or dead because we fail them as a society.
Also in the US people (especially black people) are worried about calling an ambulance for a friend who's mentally unstable and acts erratically, because the police might show up and they don't want to get their friend killed
Load More Replies...I find it very interesting that so many of these wonderful initiatives are from the Scandinavian countries. People are happier there because they have robust social safety nets. That security gives their citizens the hope and the energy to tackle entrenched problems. I can barely make it through the day with every gut punch from Trump, worrying about health care and aging, never mind trying to save the planet and all its precious diversity.
But it's weird how depression in the Scandinavian countries is really high compared to the rest of Europe. They say they are happy but actually are depressed? pretty weird
Load More Replies...All societies need to remove the stigma associated with ANY form of disease or illness, but especially mental illness, since it is often a silent killer. People are NOT ill because they are sinful or unworthy or guilty of something. They are ill because of biology, environmental factors, economic factors, bad politics, stressful situations, abuse by others, etc.
Considering the fact that, forty years ago in the US, we emptied our mental institutions, with the intention of monitoring patients in their homes to be sure they stayed on their meds, which allowed them to lead productive lives. However, once those institutions were closed down, our government didn’t fund the monitoring, and just left patients on their own. Many of them ended up in jail or homeless and on the streets. If they’d just set up and adequately staffed mobile units like these, we could’ve prevented so much needless suffering. Our government comes up with a lot of great ideas, and even starts putting some of them into practice, but they rarely follow through and fund them so they can function properly, if they fund them at all.
I remember when they kicked everyone out of the hospitals... suddenly there were homeless everywhere, especially in the park across the street from my school in California. It was the 1970's. Kids teased these poor confused people endlessly. One young man seemed very kind... He was probably only 25. I gave him my lunch every morning when I saw him. He never said a word to me, but his eyes told me everything. So sad and scared, but kind and somehow hopeful. I still think about him all these 40 years later. I hope he eventually got the help he so desperately needed.
Load More Replies...This should be everywhere. It would have been so helpful, at least for me, to have such a service. Bravo!
It is one ambulance, on trial for 3 years, hopefully it will be a permanent feature and many more.
I did not fail them. Suicide has complex causes, and people are not to blame when someone takes his or her life. That kind of guilt and self-recrimination destroys families after a family member commits suicide. Please stop making light of a complicated mental-health issue. Usually clinical depression is the cause not society.
Our healthcare system is too expensive, so no one could afford this here.
They need to have this everywhere. People would feel so secure. Like the police or ambulance you just know whenever you call their there to help you and keep you safe, love the idea <3
This is close to home for me. I have lost my family member to this and have had thoughts. The fact that they are doing this is amazing
This is so wonderful that they acknowledge the need for this, I hope to see this in other countries!
The mental care in Sweden is still low prioritised sadly enough... Help is rarely given fast enough and it's just moved on to other "authorities" wich results in irreversible damages/fatalities
Though "they" are talking about to put off the suicide hot line because they only have time to answer 2/3 of the 30000 calls and it costs too much to expand the last 1/3 so it's easier to put off the whole service
Where are the sources on this? I'm a Swedish citizen and never heard about this Mental health ambulance. Nor can I find any information about it when searching for it.
The holidays see the greatest number of suicides. I hope Sweden can share the idea with other countries!
That's awesome. Here, in the USA, they just come to your house and kill you.
I bet it's free too.. not 500 / visit 2k / transport the way it is here in the US.
That's very... uhm.. nice... for having a government and insurance that in the first place makes you wanna go suicide... Maybe you should do something about that too? :/
WHY IS THE REST OF THE WORLD SO BEAUTIFUL. AMERICA NEEDS TO STEP UP
If this happened in 2019 then it wasn't the world's first -- Stavanger, Norway where I live has had a special purpose mental health ambulance since 2010, and I dunno if we were first either. Still great news of course!
Brilliant idea that would save lives! Many Paramedics treat mentally ill or suicidal people like a burden or a waste of time. This could help people in crisis get direct access to the help they need rather than them sitting all night in A and E where staff don't know what to do with them. I wish medics had specific mental health training but it's sadly lacking,
That is so needed in Australia, they seem to be neglected in Australia, too many and never enough beds or help
Prevention is 1000 times better than punishing people who are hurting!
I prefer to leave suicides alone. It's their own choice and no one should stop them. Exhibit A: The lawsuit of Mr. Incredible.
Sorry for the negativity here: but the mental health system in Sweden is way too bad.. leads people to commit suicide or end up without money or help. People need to get help but a thrown between different doctors, phycaciatrics, hospitals like a tennisball. Its not just one or two cases there are many documentaries about this, demonstrations where hundered of people attend to remind everyone who passed away because of this s****y system..
we fail the veterans, too... 22 u.s. veterans commit suicide every day!
What is the difference between a regular ambulance and a mental health ambulance?? This is a little weird with no other explanation of details offered..I am curious does anyone know??
...it's not the first though. This has been a thing in Eugene, OR for years.
Nairobi has a baby elephant orphanage. So I guess not. Of course, if they are brought up in the orphanage, which is by Nairobi National Park, then they are not sold to a zoo or circus.
This is definitely a good thing, but be careful to remember that fortnite is known for an especially toxic crunch culture. Employees are expected to work insane hours with no pay. Planting forests is good, but he should also be held responsible for the unfair and harmful working conditions his company creates.
The rabid, right-wingers still spewing their nonsense that renewables will drive prices up so high no one will be able to have electricity will not be noticing this development. The belief disconfirmation paradigm is too powerful for some people to overcome.
Glad to see them come back. Sad that they died out there in the first place.
This is nice, but it would be better if children being educated wasn’t contingent on their parents paying any sort of fee.
*one of mathematics most prestigious awards. The Abel prize for mathematics. The most prestigious is the fields medal, was first (and so far only) won by a woman in 2014, Maryam Mirzakhani.
Although the use of solar panels is green, many solar panel manufacturing processes are not. To create a solar panel, caustic materials will emit greenhouse gases. Plus less than 11% of each panel has salvageable metals so they're not very recyclable once they're usable life has expired. Most people aren't aware that the 'green' alternatives often aren't.

And I'm glad that I read it yesterday when there were over 100 posts and not just the 50 that are left now...
Load More Replies...Posts like these give me faith in humanity. Don't get me wrong, it's important to be informed about world issues, but it's nice to escape that every once in a while and know how far we've come.
Life is calmer when people take care of their little spheres in the world and stop obsessing about the whole world. People who mire themselves in the world's problems start to see people as the enemy.
Load More Replies...WOW!!!! This may be the best boredpanda post EVER!!!! Boredpanda needs to post more like this.
Thank you. I really needed this. My faith in this world and humanity has been at an all time low lately. We all could do with more good news in the world.
quick share these for when they suddenly don't exist anymore

Load More Replies...This is a great post and many of these are amazing things, the problem is that the more we keep people alive and the longer they live the bigger the population gets which isn't sustainable. So it's a double edged sword. It's a catch-22.
Really fun, informative, and feel-good post. Needed this today.
Thank you, these are great. I would love to have each meme linked to a reliable source so I can happily spread them around with the source link! What you think??
Thank you very much to make me happy today! Btw, #39 and #46 are the same...
It's good to see someone wanting to spread good news! Sad that so many people had to add negative comments to many of them, kinda missed the point didn't they?
This is the most amazing post I read in the last few years!! Thank you for gathering such valuable content and making such beautiful, interesting illustrations!! Love the way each pic is designed. Please make it a video and I'm sure many will watch it.
What about stop complaining about bad news, and get to work to fix what's bad in the world; then, there would be only good news to report. Get involved.
Thanks Bored Panda, much good news, also, great information !!!
I think a balance is better. Transparency reduces corruption. Confidentiality "divides and conquers" unity in humanity. All CULTures reduce free thinking and truer happiness. Imagine developmentally disabled having equal power and wealth to intellectuals.
When I read these good news headlines, it helps me realize that we are making progress. Yes, there's a lot of bad news in the world, but good news is just as plentiful when we look for it. Good news is healing. I'm sharing this on all my social media pages!
Lifted me ... made me smile. Thank you for sharing such great news.
Best news I've read in a long time. Thank you this has given me hope for the future and made me happy.
Love the illustrations and news they represent. Would like to have a link to the original news story for reference plz
Thank you Mario. A good effort was put into this and it was very interesting. Just a pity our world is so distorted that these things happen once in a blue moon. We can have the world be mostly fantastic and turn things around. But we have to withdraw from bank issued money. This is imperative if we want peace in the world and in our lives because banksters will bleed you dry. Yes even you.
Awesome post -- I agree that there's WAY too much negative bias on the internet. One of my favorite pieces of "good news" from this year is that the European Investment Bank, the world's largest multilateral lender, recently announced that it will stop funding fossil fuel projects by 2021 and divert those funds to renewables instead. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-climate-europe-eib-idUSKBN1XO2OS
I love it, now this should inspire all countries to follow, not just one!
Thank you! If we keep this up maybe the future generations will actually have a planet
There's been a ton of great news lately though, communists got BTFO'd in a lot of western countries, the US economy is doing great, brexit is finally going to go through without impedance. Overall SJW's are losing and the people are regaining some of their power.
This made me feel good!! I do wish I hadn't read some of the comments though. Just be happy with the good stuff!!
That was a tonic. I am going to save it to look at when I get down about the state of the planet.
This should be printed and bound into a children’s book annually! I would totally buy it for my nieces and nephews
Reading this just made me feel sadder! How can homo sapiens have developed so much technology and yet remain so stupid! So sad...
Thank you sooooo much. I bet there are plenty more of these positive news. If we could concentrate on those instead of bad news, scandals, fake news and all the bs we are exposed to everyday, the world would be a better place. I applaud your dedication.
This was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. Thank you so much for taking the time to put together and share this positive news with the rest of us.
Nice list of happy events except don't see why Taiwan would be happy about joining the morally depraved countries that support homosexuality.
I have been plagued with depression for weeks. Blah. I cry every morning. This morning, it was finally about something good. Thanks Bored Panda for making this the top story in my email.
When you are bombarded with stories of decline, loss, and hopelessness it is easy to think "Why bother" - this is why we should bother! Perhaps the news channels should take a leaf out of Mauro Gatti's post and throw us a sucess story once and a while. Thank you
I've been reading a lot of pessimistic stuff lately, so this really helped me out. Thanks. :)
Love these happy, good-news stories; keep them coming to preserve our sanity!

3 things to say! 1. All of this is magnificent! Bravo to all 😊👏🏻 2. It’s so sad to see the differences between parts of the world-some make fake islands for flora and fauna while some are getting electricity. 3. People are awful. To even come to this state,to destroy everything on their way... In any case, kudos for all the positivity here 😊
I am sad to see the us very low on the list of contributions. We as a people need to start to fight again for the rights of our children, grandchildren, etc. We expect them to respect us, when we do not have any respect ourselves. Let us make 2020 a year where there is more good news than bad.
Fantastic !!! Thank you for this very welcome GOOD NEWS ✨⭐️🌟💛 I love positive movements !!! Signed: a Dutch artist living in the midst of the frequent strikes in Paris.
This gives us all hope and inspiration to make a difference. Thank you. Plus the drawings are so adorable. Had a smile on my face the whole time while reading the piece!
Thanks. I sometimes think networks, including weather channels, search out the most Godawful stuff they can find. A little "fair and balanced" would be nice . This helps.
