I’m Honestly Fed Up With All The Bad News, So I Illustrated 50 Of The Best Ones From 2019
We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.
However, while it’s important to report on problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that it needs to be found and promoted just as widely.
Because of that, I started The Happy Broadcast. It's an anti-venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. Also, this year, I’ve illustrated even more happy news than in 2018.
We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little.

When I'm working on The Happy Broadcast, I try to pick news that has an international appeal and touches themes like animal rights, climate change and science. News that shows how much we’re progressing on many fronts despite being often bombarded with few-mongering headlines.
I am so happy for their victory, but just find it bonkers that an indigenous tribe had to fight a legal battle to protect their land in the first place.
I think there are many reasons why negative news is dominating the media. It's like a sudden disaster a, it's more compelling than, for example, little improvements. Bad things can happen quickly, but good things aren’t built in a day, and as they unfold, they're out of sync with the news cycle.
As humans, we have this thing called “negative bias” that make us respond quicker to bad or dangerous situations. Nowadays, this bias is getting in the way of our happiness and well-being, and even our productivity because most of the narrative surrounding us (print, online or mobile) is that the “world is ending".
I think we should find a balance between negative and positive news. From politics to climate change and economy, negative and bad news surrounds us everywhere we go. A potential solution could be to limit the amount of bad news, basically slow down our personal news cycle, adding some positive news to our “news diet” to make sure that our outlook on the world is more optimistic. Also, it's very important to invest time to deal with misinformation and the reliability of news sources.
Hm, I think Sweden must have forgot to apply then. We dont have stray dogs, at least for decades. Any lost dog gets collected, if no owner is found it gets adopted via Animal Protection. I have seen one or two lost dogs, where we found the owner, but never a genuine stray.
Steps like these show the power of the State in achieving large scale sustainable results if there is a will.

In Germany you pay for every plastic bottle (if it contains a liquid with bubbles) 25 cent, 8 cent for beer bottles or other glas bottles. You will get your money back when you bring the empty bottles back to the store.
Some states in the US do too, five cents-- that's an armload of bottles for a metro ticket!

They were three and in perfect usage of Romans, they were broken almost immediately. They bonuses 5 cent per bottle (a ticket is more than one euro), the public reaction was entusiast but they got filled soon so a permanent tech is there to empty as they become full and let the flow continue. In Germany you have a small deposit (in the range of 50Ct to 1€) included in the prize of most every plastic bottle that you get back as a coupon when you return the bottle to the store
More bottles plastic or glass should have the deposit on it for 10 cents or whatever if your going to buy it then someone can return if you choose to throw it out or take it back yourself!
I don' t likes this. It actually motivates to buy drinks in plastic bottles.
I love this! What a creative and excellent idea to reduce waste. But people have to stop buying them too.
Think how that could help the homeless and poor if they could use plastic bottles and soda cans to pay for stuff - perhaps a machine you put you bottles in and get cash back?
Saving the planet should be our number one tasks to do in our agenda
..lets hope it doesn't create more demand for plastic bottles to pay for train transport..!

I wish they had this back in the day when I was young and poor. The day before payday I would’ve been relieved to pay my fare in recyclables instead of my last dollar bill. Come to think of it, I’d still be relieved.

I love this so much. I abhor plastic, and being of the generation that carries the burden of “garbage guilt”, I just don’t feel that my village’s recycling goes anywhere but on a barge to China.
Plastic can only be recycled so much then it becomes garbage. In a way isn't this encouraging single use plastic? We need reusable water bottles. And go back to when we brought glass bottles in to be refilled. Reuse! reduce! Recycle is a joke!

If people have money to buy bottled drinks I would rather see people pay their fare, then buying bottled drinks; that might be cheaper and more economical altogether, somebody has to pay for recycling.

i duno why other countries dont step up and do like we do in denmark by putting mortage on plastic/glass bottles and alu cans this do 1. less people throw it out in the nature 2. people makes money on picking it up and get the mortage back from them

The deposit on returned bottles is marginal (5 - 10 cents) many people do not bother to return them.

Yeah, like 20 bottles for one ticket. Not a great deal. Here in Rome we have a lot of great ideas, but very poor-made.

How about the price of a visit to the beach? You pay to get out, with a sack of plastic litter!
Just here in Florida I could ride their Metro for free for the rest of my just by picking up the plastic bottles on the side of the road.
Oh this is cool for people who don't have much money who can also save the environment
We've done a similar thing in Surabaya, Indonesia. You pay with plastic bottles for a free ride of city bus
Just shows what can be done if the government put their mind to these type of things.

SOOOO not against this! But....shouldn't it be equal pay for equal skill? (meaning, no race, gender, age, or any discrimination at all!) If you have more skill in the task, you get paid more, if you have less you get paid less. Plain and simple (yet I know it is more difficult to prove wrong-doing that way too)

Posts like these give me faith in humanity. Don't get me wrong, it's important to be informed about world issues, but it's nice to escape that every once in a while and know how far we've come.
Life is calmer when people take care of their little spheres in the world and stop obsessing about the whole world. People who mire themselves in the world's problems start to see people as the enemy.

This is a great post and many of these are amazing things, the problem is that the more we keep people alive and the longer they live the bigger the population gets which isn't sustainable. So it's a double edged sword. It's a catch-22.

I think a balance is better. Transparency reduces corruption. Confidentiality "divides and conquers" unity in humanity. All CULTures reduce free thinking and truer happiness. Imagine developmentally disabled having equal power and wealth to intellectuals.
When I read these good news headlines, it helps me realize that we are making progress. Yes, there's a lot of bad news in the world, but good news is just as plentiful when we look for it. Good news is healing. I'm sharing this on all my social media pages!

We can have the world be mostly fantastic and turn things around. But we have to withdraw from bank issued money. This is imperative if we want peace in the world and in our lives because banksters will bleed you dry. Yes even you.

There's been a ton of great news lately though, communists got BTFO'd in a lot of western countries, the US economy is doing great, brexit is finally going to go through without impedance. Overall SJW's are losing and the people are regaining some of their power.
