I’m Honestly Fed Up With All The Bad News, So I Illustrated 50 Of The Best Ones From 2019
We are often bombarded with fear-mongering and shocking headlines that make us feel that the world is falling apart.
However, while it’s important to report on problems and issues, I believe there is so much good in this world that it needs to be found and promoted just as widely.
Because of that, I started The Happy Broadcast. It's an anti-venom to the vitriolic rhetoric that pervades our media. Also, this year, I’ve illustrated even more happy news than in 2018.
We need more positive news to acknowledge that the world is actually getting better little by little.

When I'm working on The Happy Broadcast, I try to pick news that has an international appeal and touches themes like animal rights, climate change and science. News that shows how much we’re progressing on many fronts despite being often bombarded with few-mongering headlines.
I am so happy for their victory, but just find it bonkers that an indigenous tribe had to fight a legal battle to protect their land in the first place.
I think there are many reasons why negative news is dominating the media. It's like a sudden disaster a, it's more compelling than, for example, little improvements. Bad things can happen quickly, but good things aren’t built in a day, and as they unfold, they're out of sync with the news cycle.
As humans, we have this thing called “negative bias” that make us respond quicker to bad or dangerous situations. Nowadays, this bias is getting in the way of our happiness and well-being, and even our productivity because most of the narrative surrounding us (print, online or mobile) is that the “world is ending".
I think we should find a balance between negative and positive news. From politics to climate change and economy, negative and bad news surrounds us everywhere we go. A potential solution could be to limit the amount of bad news, basically slow down our personal news cycle, adding some positive news to our “news diet” to make sure that our outlook on the world is more optimistic. Also, it's very important to invest time to deal with misinformation and the reliability of news sources.
Hm, I think Sweden must have forgot to apply then. We dont have stray dogs, at least for decades. Any lost dog gets collected, if no owner is found it gets adopted via Animal Protection. I have seen one or two lost dogs, where we found the owner, but never a genuine stray.
SOOOO not against this! But....shouldn't it be equal pay for equal skill? (meaning, no race, gender, age, or any discrimination at all!) If you have more skill in the task, you get paid more, if you have less you get paid less. Plain and simple (yet I know it is more difficult to prove wrong-doing that way too)
Yes. I often drove down the peninsula (PEN-KL-SIN) and was saddened by the endless stretches of palm plantations visible from the highway.
Load More Replies... Buen trabajo, Peru! I really wish that there would be more of a push around the world to use an oil that is more sustainable and has less of crushing environmental impact. Palm oil is in sooo many products, even organic ones.
I think products need to display on the front of the package, that they contain palm oil. I think most people would do the right thing.

All countries need to do what they can to protect nature and all the wildlife! Kudos to Peru!
I try to avoid foods that have palm oil in it, but it's pretty hard considering almost everything has it other than fresh foods.
Palm oil is not labelled properly and is in EVERYTHING. Truly the scourge of conservation.
When a widely-used product, like palm-oil, is no longer being planted, governments need to provide farmers with viable alternatives that don't need wide-spread deforestation. What are the acceptable alternatives?
Alternatives are probably more expensive to produce, I would be willing to pay more for more environment friendly products.

It wasn't that long ago people were saying the same thing about the petroleum-based surfactants that palm oil replaced. Nothing is simple.

YES! Palm oil is the worst, and actually quite easy to avoid! I’ve not had a single drop in or on my body in decades...is my medal in the mail? ; )
It will take a very long time, to change so many products, that contain palm oil !!!
It's all about buying sustainable palm oil, if done correctly it's a more sustainable product than many other oils. Support the companies that do it right and it will prevent further deforestation
I guess it probably won't happen so soon. In most part of Latin America governments say something in the future that they don't plan to do, they just pretend to do so
what Peru did is commendable, just where did the grower plant the tree instead?
Palm kernel oil is actually one of the most promising solutions for our addiction to crude oil. It's a renewable oil source that produces biodiesel and bioplastics. Palm Kernel plantations should be welcomed, not shunned.
Brian, did you ask the orangutans? Is it really renewable? How would you like to have your house destroyed to make room for palm oil plantations? On what planet do you live?

Nairobi has a baby elephant orphanage. So I guess not. Of course, if they are brought up in the orphanage, which is by Nairobi National Park, then they are not sold to a zoo or circus.

Although the use of solar panels is green, many solar panel manufacturing processes are not. To create a solar panel, caustic materials will emit greenhouse gases. Plus less than 11% of each panel has salvageable metals so they're not very recyclable once they're usable life has expired. Most people aren't aware that the 'green' alternatives often aren't.

Posts like these give me faith in humanity. Don't get me wrong, it's important to be informed about world issues, but it's nice to escape that every once in a while and know how far we've come.
Life is calmer when people take care of their little spheres in the world and stop obsessing about the whole world. People who mire themselves in the world's problems start to see people as the enemy.

This is a great post and many of these are amazing things, the problem is that the more we keep people alive and the longer they live the bigger the population gets which isn't sustainable. So it's a double edged sword. It's a catch-22.

I think a balance is better. Transparency reduces corruption. Confidentiality "divides and conquers" unity in humanity. All CULTures reduce free thinking and truer happiness. Imagine developmentally disabled having equal power and wealth to intellectuals.
When I read these good news headlines, it helps me realize that we are making progress. Yes, there's a lot of bad news in the world, but good news is just as plentiful when we look for it. Good news is healing. I'm sharing this on all my social media pages!

We can have the world be mostly fantastic and turn things around. But we have to withdraw from bank issued money. This is imperative if we want peace in the world and in our lives because banksters will bleed you dry. Yes even you.

There's been a ton of great news lately though, communists got BTFO'd in a lot of western countries, the US economy is doing great, brexit is finally going to go through without impedance. Overall SJW's are losing and the people are regaining some of their power.
