Photographer Recreates Famous Portraits With John Malkovich As His Model
Famous photographer Sandro Miller has worked together with legendary Hollywood star John Malkovich many times, but when Miller wanted to celebrate the portrait photography greats that had inspired and guided him, he had to do something special. So he, with the famous actor as his dashing unisex model, recreated some of those influential photographers’ most important portraits in a photo series called “Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich: Homage to photographic masters.”
The series puts both Miller’s exceptional photography and Malkovich’s masterful acting talents front and center. Miller gets each amazing photographic portrait’s lighting, mood and composition down perfectly, while Malkovich replicates the subject’s emotions and expressions so perfectly that the photos become nearly indistinguishable, regardless of the age or gender of the original subject. And it was all done without Photoshop! Check some of the best photos below and tell us what you think about this project.

Load More Replies...Same thing for the Che Guevara picture where his eyes seem completely empty instead of looking forward with confidence.
Load More Replies...His Marilyn Monroe is a little too much "put the lotion in the basket"....
Hilarious. The Jack Nicholson looks more like Jack than Jack does. Mind you, the Hitchcock looks like Marlon Brando. And the Einstein is plain frightening.
The Bette Davis and Marilyn Monroe are my favorites! I am agahast at how much he looks like Einsein!!
I want to hang these up in my house but not tell anyone that they're all John Malkovich. Just to see if anyone notices.
In Three Horses, the Indian has a sad look in his eyes, while Malkovich has a more angry look. Still, most of them are really excellent.
I really wanted to like these but for me it just didn't work at best they made me smile.
John M. Is amazing and gracious to give himself to photographer's project. I agree, It should go on forever. Bravo darling, Bravo!
Absolutely fantastic!!!!....John Malkovich is amazing!!!!....:-)))....amazing and hilarious photos!!!
I think the best impression Malkovich did was of Yoko Ono. That was spot on.
The Native American piece is tactless. His facial expression doesn't match as he has a sinister impression where Three Horses is more stoic
John Malkovich has dead eyes at all the pictures as opposed to the heroes of real shootings
intersting is "Fakeness" of images compared to originals. A demonstration of how fake but well-detailed artwork could be easily annoying.
OMg where did you get Hemingway's Sweaterrrrr....! And all the other perfectl costumes.. What an unbelievably detailed series- I love it. :)
Just a formal performance... hate the Marylin fake: she looks so fragile yet sensual, the fake is terrible, I just can't name it
Awesome would like to see more with different Actor's / Actresses the possibilities are endless.

Einstein, Jagger, Nicholson, Picasso, Warhol, and Dali were the best...I give Lennon honourable mention...
Hate it. The original photos have a depth, the others are a p**s take in a doppelgänger society.
Rubbish actually ,what's the point? And the photographer was too lazy to even get the poses correct.

OMG this is hilarious. thanks for giving me a laugh this morning. effervescent. Dr J
I think this is a garish insult - can no one come up with their own ideas anymore?
The multi-talented John Malkovich. One of the very few people that my husband, John, worked with who really impressed him, True West.
Too heavy on the makeup in some. And some need a bit more tweaking. But, funny.
I think it's the single greatest piece of art I have ever seen. It feeds my soul.
Malkovich's Dali and Picasso recreations were quite good. Almost couldn't figure out which was the actor and which was the famous painter.
I think Malckovich is amazing, he is very very photogenic...!!! The most I like "Salvador Dali", "Hemingway" and "Che Guevara"
He has been badly directed. His face does not, on the whole, reflect the original emotions. A pity; he is capable of better.
Bravo John for being the pro that you are! You're one of my all time faves.
Literally Fantastic. An interesting element is the photographer never loses the Malkovichness in these images.
Great session...John is so very talented an actor, love the photographer's work. I would love to see more!
The Joker picture looks far more creepy and maniacal than Nicholson.
Amazing! Not sure how, but Malkovich embodies every single recast. Sandro Miller is great!
Augen und Mund bilden die Emotionen ab. Alles andere ist Beiwerk und verführt nur zu einer vermeintlichen Wiedererkennung. aber: interessant
I have always been a great admirer of John Malkovich and this just ads to it! I love these photos.
fabulous - I usually think of John Malkovich as John Wankervich because he is so totally up his own a**e - but this is almost good!
Most of them look like the same person recreating the picture much later in life Excellent work by both
Parabéns!!!Maravilhosa essa reconstrução do passado misturada com os olhos do presente!!
I never appreciated John M. as much in anything else I've seen him in.
Fantastic...i love John Malkovich..........he doesn't have to look exactly like the subject to make this work..........brilliant Sandro
Instead of Marilyn Monroe, I think he actually looks more like Madonna! hahahaha
I believe the way he reenacted the Three Horses photo is offensive. He does not portray the expression accurately. He looks angry.
I ate at Malkovich's house in France in 2000. He lent me his sweater. :-)
I could handle getting one of these every day for the rest of my life.
What a sport John was to pose for these. Great work from make-up to photographer!
What a sport John was to do this, I think it's amazing! Great work! From the model to the person who did the make-up to the photographer.
GREAT!!! Malkovich is great and the recreations are excellent!
Warhol, Picasso, and Einstein are PRETTY good, certainly not "amazing". Monroe & Davis are scary, and the twins.....HORRIBLE!!
Most are amazing . Marilyn is so beautiful, he doesn't have the face but his pose is great. But He did not come even close with Che'
clearly shows that technique of the photographer is really important ...but the model is what makes the photograph!

This has been done before. Conceptually it is extremely week. I like this guy much more http://ilyapopenko.com/Self-titled
Absolutely marvelous. Brilliant idea and brilliant execution. I'd like to see more along these lines, this time with Johnny Depp.
he's got mean eyes, proper of the petantic prat he is, just loves himself
Bravo! Sandro. Super amusing and very well done. Can't imagine all the work that went into this. It's great. Nick Vedros Photographer
Finally stopped laughing. The comment about originality Madera blow my laughter fuse!
This is the funniest concept in the entire history of funny concepts! Hysterical!
bloody hell, that's the best idea i've seen in ages i love it, thumbs up!
Malkovich has this wonderful ELASTIC countenance that has gotten better as he has gotten older. Amazing and I loved this.
Hemingway, Picasso and Einstein ones were brilliant, the rest were just weird
He's bonkers! Love them (although more Emperor Ming than Che Guevara).
hahahha.. identical twins, the way he imitates their face expressions.. .hhahaahah xD
John Malcovich makes the migrant mother look beautiful in comparison.
I'm loving John M more each day. His humor and how he "markets" himself in the arts is fabulous. Wonderful pics. He makes a better Einstein!
The last picture is very creepy when you keep staring at it for a while.
look at the eyes! he captures for sure. and compliments to the photographer who framed his every nuance.
