Popsicles Made From 100 Different Polluted Water Sources Grab World’s Attention

These popsicles might look like the sort of thing you’d expect to find being served from a quirky organic artisanal food truck, but one bite could leave you very ill indeed, because they’re actually made from sewage found in the polluted waters of Taiwan.

They were made by three design students for the Polluted Water Popsicles project, which aims to raise awareness about rising water pollution due to rapid economic growth and urbanization. Water was taken from 100 different water sources in Taiwan and turned into frozen toxic popsicles before Hung I-chen, Guo Yi-hui, and Cheng Yu-ti from the National Taiwan University of Arts recreated them using transparent polyester resin. They even made wrappers for them that represented the different regions from which the polluted water samples were taken. While the trash in the water was varied, about 90 percent of it was plastic, and the popsicles contain everything from bottle caps and plastic bags to bottles and chopstick wrappers. It’s a simple yet effective way of getting us to think about water pollution from a totally different perspective. Popsicle anyone?

Very pretty, but sad to see that water gets that way... People who trash the planet don't realize the after effects of it all.

I agree and people in poor countries have to drink it

Wow, I would say that the popsicles are a work of art. Yes, they are so pleasing in the eyes but it’s a strong statement for the growing problem of water pollution. This global problem should be given the utmost priority. Just imagine the break out of disease when water contamination is rampant. My friend, who is a doctor told me that man can survive without food but not without water. http://all-about-water-filters.com/water-pollution/

Some of these images are powerful, some of these images are what looks like clean water and natural sediments. A river may look brown and murky but the water itself may actually be pristinely clean, just as the inverse may be true for a clear spot of water. Many toxins are not visible and can make what is seemingly benign water truly dangerous.

these look fucking delicious. You should have put a used condom in one of them just to make people feel extra bad for the environment.

And MOST of the fish you buy in the stores here (U.S.) are from these countries. That's why I will only buy fish caught in Alaska, etc..... Farmed fish usually contain many pollutants also. Read up guys, know what you're eating.

Not all of those have contaminants. Some of them just have regular dirt in and parts of plants. But, yes, it is sad that people can't be bothered to put their rubbish in the bin. Very lazy individuals because there are bins everywhere....

I like the idea of what they did, but it is very drama focused. The water is taken from known contaminated sources such as sewers. Imagine if this project is repeated at drinking sources or swimming sources.
