A Shocking Campaign Uses Graphic Images To Point Out The Damage That Plastic Pollution Has On The Ocean’s Wildlife
You might not think using one plastic fork on your lunch break could cause a dramatic impact on the globe but if you imagine all 7.7 billion people do that as well – the picture is quite terrifying. To put it simply we are drowning in plastic waste.
On the bright side, it seems like lately more people are interested in saving our planet simply because more people are aware of environmental threats and climate change and also the fact that we are a big part of the problem. All the inspiring stories of positive environmental movements worldwide, including the viral #trashtag challenge, inspire us to join the fight for a brighter future.
Yet another attempt to fight the ignorance and ensure a better tomorrow is the international non-profit organization Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS), which aims to conserve and protect ecosystems and ocean animals by battling the destruction of marine wildlife. The group teamed up with Tribal Worldwide São Paulo and DDB Guatemala advertising agencies to implement a shocking plastic pollution awareness campaign. 3D posters depict two marine animals – a turtle and a seal – suffering from the horrifying consequences of ocean pollution and convey an eye-opening message: “The plastic you use once tortures the oceans forever”.

“Unfortunately, a small and thoughtless action in our daily life can cause huge damage to nature without us even realizing it. In this ad campaign, we aim to remedy this by reaching the largest number of people possible, bringing awareness to the fact that with small and easy steps, we can ensure that terrible scenes like these do not happen,” Guiga Giacomo, Executive Creative Director at Tribal Worldwide São Paulo, said was the idea behind the social ad campaign.

Sea Shepherd gives valuable insight on the dangerous impact that plastic has on the oceans, provides useful tips on how to reduce the use of plastic in our everyday lives, and carries out beach clean-up campaigns “Operation Clean Waves” around the world – all while working with scientists on making a bigger change. “Scientists warn that in 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish in the sea,” informs Sea Shepherd founder and president Captain Paul Watson, “Sea Shepherd is committed to preventing this from happening – because if the oceans die, we die.”

Share on FacebookSo upsetting, not much more to say really, we have destroyed this planet, if humans went extinct every other living thing, sentient and non-sentient would benefit. We are a toxic parasite.
I don't know, we weren't around for the ice age or the extinction of the dinosaurs, so I'm pretty sure the planet is still a cruel place even without humans.

Don't American and European have rivers? Need to be more specific. Asia is big.

Sea Shepard is amazing! I visited a stall they had, and the most incredible old man with the true seaman look, a weathered beard, piercing blue eyes like a man from myth (i thought that if anyone was a living embodiment of Poseidon, it was him) talked to me about the importance of the ocean. Please be conscious of your waste!
Less than 1/100 of 1% of the plastic waste introduced into the oceans comes from the United States, yet we are the ones that can't get a straw to enjoy our frapachino from starbucks or a fork to eat a slice of cake.
You are disregarding the millions of tons of plastic exported by the U.S. to China prior to China's 2018 plastic ban. For context, it's also important to consider per capita pollution. And whatever the percentage of the total may be, the 242 million pounds entering oceans from the U.S. each year is still incredibly damaging. Giving up needless single-use straws, utensils or bags is the least you can do.

If retailers would give up plastic packaging there wouldn't be so much plastic pollution. That's the root of the problem. Or maybe if governments would spend a bit more on recycling or safe disposing. Or maybe if not 99% of the stuff in stores wouldn't be wrapped in plastic this problem would not be this big. I find these types of campaigns hypocritical and all they do is try to get you into a guilt trip like awww I'm such a bad person I use so much plastic... That's nonsense. Recycling nowadays is not such a weird thing, it's not like I go to the ocean and dump my rubbish there. Let's not forget that about 70% of the world pollution is made by about 100 companies (google it)
Really sad, Though it is true everyone could definitely get a really sad look around life. Like when you see plastic on the beach and you don't pick it up, it could make it seem like it was that piece of plastic, its my fault. When its not. So yeah, basically just really sad, and gets you thinking.
Recently, I made a purchase online to help remove plastic from the ocean, every little bit helps, go to, 4ocean.com if you would like to help !!!
I really wonder how much of this stuff comes off from cruise ships. They have to dispose of some of their trash during their longer cruises. Imagine all the trash they must have in one day. I knew a sailor who said their submarine emptied it nuclear waste in Eliot Bay Seattle. They have to dump they gotta dump. End petroleum based plastic. Hemp bags dissolve and do not harm the environment, May take a bit but hardly anything like it take plastic to disintegrate.
Photo editing. Did you really think a save-the-animals poster would have been created by literally suffocating animals?? Smh

Almost half plastic in the oceans comes from from fishing. So maybe do something about that. Maybe DONT F*****G DESTROY THE OCEAN MORONS.
Not, and 90% of the plastic comes from Asia. So kiss my a*s if you think I'm going to worry about it.

Increasing public awareness is more effective when the public sees people doing the work and are given the opportunity to join in. No, not for free. Pay them. Then you'll have a line out the door, and down the street of people looking to work on this issue. Truth
so, how about preventing the plastic trash being thrown into the ocean? just a thought...
yeah it kinda looks like they purposely strangled animals, i know that wasnt their intention.....but they could have madde it better

I have a small thing to point out. How come this ANTI LITTERING commercials are just taking photos of these animals suffocating, and not actually, y'know, REMOVING THE PLASTIC AND THEREFORE SAVING THE ANIMALS FROM PLASTIC SUFFOCATION! Needless to say, I have just a few doubts on this company. Just saying.
So disgusting ,and there is little concern of many, years ago one could see a paper bag blowing down the street, now the plastic issue is huge, why are there so many people think dropping the remnants of the picnic or beach party is okay, don't like to say, but I think the young people are the mane culprits, with many adults as well !!!
If only people were this concerned about the millions of baby humans murdered in the womb of their mothers...
not the point of the article, kindly stfu

I would think that a universal symbol of death would be the last thing one would go for, if one is trying to save life as we know it. Also, that photographer needs to have a bag shoved over his head and pictures taken of it in my honest opinion. If I saw that in real life, the last thing on my mind would be "Let me get a shot of that! Hold still for just a moment!" Thus ends my pointless rant. Feel free to downvote and slam on me all you want.
Hey, ever thought about awareness being a great thing and the only way this world will ever come back from what we have done? You do know these aren't real photos don't you?
