Who would have ever thought that ordering a pizza could be a life-changing event? Sure, a delicious pizza can make you feel good, but it can’t save your life, right? Wrong. One Internet user that goes by the nickname notinmybrain, shared a hilarious and scary story about how Domino’s pizza delivery tracker saved him from being killed by his bipolar ex-girlfriend, and even though his story has a happy ending, not everyone online is happy about what he had to say about people suffering from the disorder.

My dad and sister both have bipolar, so I've gotten used to explaining that bipolar doesn't make someone crazy. My family never hurt me. Life at home was different, but I am a perfectly fine person and I've spent my whole life around two people with bipolar and they mean the world to me.
The story could be a work of fiction but I had a very close friend who was bipolar, and whenever she went off her meds she went bonkers. She would go off her meds because she thought they made her fat. One night she was coming to visit me and when she got to my door, she had a pair of sharp scissors in her hand, claiming that someone had followed her from the subway. She said a man tried to touch her hair, etc. She had a lot of delusions when she went off her meds, so perhaps that's what this guy left out of the story. On meds, my friend could be a lovely, kind person. Off meds she was completely unpredictable, especially in the manic phase. It's very challenging to deal with a bipolar person who's off their meds, no matter how much you love and care about them.
A year ago I went off all my meds, diagnosed as bipolar and medicated for 5 years before that. In this year my life has only gotten better, my mental state stable, I am far more capable of dealing with problems calmly. My life on meds was a nightmare, off meds it's become the dream I always wanted, even when all hell breaks loose I manage fine. Please don't generalize people with disorders under certain labels. Some people can manage without meds, some need minimal and some need to be sure they never miss a dose. Bipolar does not equal violent, nor does it equal challenging. Each person brings their own individual needs and problems to the table. Perhaps in future I will need a treatment plan again, but not for one moment have I ever been a violent "psychotic" person whether on them or off them. Bipolar is not a label that can be used to excuse criminal behavior, it is completely possible to work hard on yourself and move away from toxic people and function to your best abilities.

Yeah I'm bipolar, so thanks. Been through and caused an equal amount of s**t, and yes I am unstable. But we're not all undateable nutjobs. My partner stood by me for the last 10 years, and he helps me calm the storm that sometimes rages in my head or my heart. But I like to believe that I make his life better too. We have 2 beautiful kids, and we try to teach them to be loving, considerate and patient. Not easy when sometimes you're a total mess, and other times you feel like Supermom with a capital S. But don't call us crazy, seriously.
You're really lucky to have found someone who can respect you and stand by you through you difficulties. I envy you a lot.

Personally what baffles me is that he hadn't already discovered that Dominio's is better than Pizza Hut much earlier in life.
And yet every damn person that was offended is generalizing his/her experiences to their own. There are over 7 billion people in the world and you all are getting butt hurt over a story where he was talking about probably one of the worst experiences in his life. Ya' all need to get a clue that when one person is talking about something in their life experiences that upsets you, remember that it is not your experience and you should read/listen to it for what it is and keep your opinion out of it! Im am married to a bipolar man. And while he's never physically threatened me, it can get pretty out of hand. Bipolar is no laughing matter, and without proper treatment it CAN and WILL get that bad. Hopefully the cops could get her to a mental facility to get her the meds and counseling that she needs. Thank God he decided to order a pizza that night. I have dealt with more than my share of people who have been diagnosed as being bipolar. It is one of the risks of being a foster parent and a mental-health therapist. Like a mental disorders, bipolar symptoms can range from the easily tolerable to the insanely violent. Sometimes, you can get the whole range of symptoms in just one individual and that is the danger when dealing with bipolar individuals. A person who normally seems bright, cheerful, and charming, for awhile, can sometimes slip into an unreasonable rage when severely stressed. And even if you aren't the one who is causing the stress, the bipolar individual can take out their rage on you as you may be the only target available. At the present time, there are no magic pills for bipolar disorder. Finding an effective treatment is hit-or-miss at best and the effectiveness may diminish over time. Therefore, if you know a person is bipolar, and you want to have a relationship, do your research first.
Can we all please clarify that there are variations in bipolar disorder, as well as there being two types, which are, bipolar 1 and bipolar 2. People be informed, for the love of God educate yourself about mental illness, the different types, what the symptoms are. Don't assume everyone who is mentally ill is a psychopath, as your ex may have been, or neurotic, delusional or has a psychosis. Be informed and know what you're talking about or you'll sound like an idiot. Don't assume that every person who has bipolar disorder is violent. I'm so tired of uneducated assumptions that every person who has a mental illness is unstable or dangerous, just like other illnesses, for example diabetes 1 and 2, mental illnesses differ greatly. The comments about biploar at the end are absolute garbage. Talk about manufactured outrage. Anyone with a brain knows that dating someone facing serious struggles can be a very bad idea. It isn't for everyone, and shaming this guy WHEN HE ALMOST GOT MURDERED is just low.
I will believe that this story is true. But this guy is way out of line saying that you shouldn't date bipolar persons. Ok, he has had a very traumatic experience with one girl who must have had a lot more problems than being bipolar. If he had written: "Why it is not a good idea to date Russian, Dutch, Finnish or German girls" everyone would have stopped him there. So in the end the guy turns out to be a way more bad person than his ex.

He obviously had compassion for bipolar girls because he decided to date one, but as usual a bad experience can cause somebody to change their opinion. "Bipolar" isn't "crazy". Your ex was a nutter, and she would be even if she WASN'T bipolar.
I once dated a bipolar guy and will never do it again. While it lasted, it was really okay. The 4 months after were the worst experience of my life. I feel for every person out there who suffers from it, I have friends and family members with depression, schizophrenia and other mental illnesses and am happy to have them and being able to be there for them, but I will never again date a bipolar guy. That was too traumatic. So I can kinda relate to the guy, real or not.
Not sure exactly how the tracker helped. If he'd seen that the tracker showed that the guy wasn't there and he chose not to answer the door, then the tracker would have helped. But it didn't. This story would have shaped up the exact same without the pizza tracker.
What does the pizza tracker have to do with anything other than being a neat framing device? The delivery guy would have got there at the same time regardless.

So this very well could have been someone with Bipolar II with psychotic features off of her meds. Generalizing like this and not explaining further makes everyone with bipolar disorder look "crazy," but really, most people with Bipolar I are relatively stable, even off of medications. 10 yrs of marriage, things went south in the end. She went to a psychologist : Bi-Polar. Blamed me for being so. Refused treatment. Now i understand all those mood swings, always stood by her tho. Never appreciative. I never went to the cops when covered in cuts & bruises. Forgave her for cheating, caught her 2nd time. Fleed my home for the sake of my sanity & life. Devorcing. Asking for joint custody as i fear for our daughter....
I think this is completely fabricated, who relays an upsetting episode by peppering it with delightful comments about pizza. It sounds like a really bad B movie. All reference to mental illness aside.
I have a sister who is bipolar. He never said all bipolar folks act that way, just his ex girlfriend. My sister is absolutely toxic most of the time and ruined all family relationship with her. I get it.
Me too. I had an extremely close friend with bipolar. She was a little off usually, but nothing major. I found out she was bipolar when she went off her meds. She became so horrible to deal with and so toxic to her family and herself. I had to fully cut her out of my life and block all contact because she was so unstable. My friend has a bipolar sister who truly insane off her meds, she has torn that family apart. I get it too.

I have compassion for people who suffer from mental illness. I myself suffer from depression. But I also see his need to end a relationship that involves stalking and violence. People stay in these relationships sometimes because of a fear of leaving, and what might happen. When one person does not want to continue with the relationship, it can trigger this kind of behavior. The ill person is feeling abandoned and desperate. On the other hand, he feared for his life. I'm glad he was ok, and I hope she was able to get the care that she needed.
Social stigma is bad enough, but in the case of the BAD, learning in depth about it only serves to reinforce it, so, fair or not, the advice is a reasonable one. Removing the stigma doesn't remove the liability. There is a greater risk in getting involved with someone with a disorder than with a healthy person so why would you want to consciously do it to yourself, if you can help it? Asking someone to do it just because there are functioning people with the BAD is asking someone to play the Russian roulette just because some of the chambers are not loaded.

Thank god he ordered pizza online that night :/ That sounds absolutely terrifying. I know all about the dangers of bipolar disorder. I had two brothers suffering from type 1 and type 2 of bipolar disorder. One is no longer with us anymore sadly, he had many demons, but I loved him deeply, but he was dangerous at times. One time He nearly killed me and our other siblings in his car during a moment of suicidal urges. I managed to calm him down but I never let him drive me anywhere again. The other brother is still alive, but is so messed up, and very dangerous a lot of the time, I no longer have anything to do with him because he is just out of control and always lieing and causing problems. He once attacked me with a hockey stick and knocked me out cold. It is a difficult place for everyone when you have someone in your life struggling with being bipolar.
Yeah, bipolar can be bad if it's untreated but the thing to do isn't "whoops, they're crazy, time to go". Please let's not generalize that way, it doesn't help anyone.
I stopped reading after the first sentence. "Dating bi-polar girls is a bad idea". That's discrimination plain and simple. I'm bi-polar and I take my medication and see a therapist and am manageable. Everyone has bad days, even "normal people" so it's it's a gross misconception to paint all bi-polar girls with the same brush. I have an ex boyfriend who is bipolar. He never took medication for his condition and he was very abusive. If medication is not taken, bipolar people do become psycho.
This is an over generalization. I have been diagnosed and even before I had meds I wasn't a dangerous person. I'm not trying to dismiss your suffering, but I think some folks here are jumping to the conclusion that everyone is nice and considerate (or something like that) without this illness (or similar) illness. Let's remember that some people are just horrible or mean or selfish or abusive or manipulative, etc to begin with and that can't be medicated away.

I hate you for saying that. Did the fact that she was sick have anything to do with the story? No. You're just increasing the stigma towards mentally sick people. I'm bipolar, have never tried to hurt anyone, yet I have a crippling fear of getting close to anyone because of people like you that fuels stigma towards someone who has an illness, something that we can't control. Would you tell people to stay away from people with a broken arm? Or a leg? It's not their fault that they can't properly use their arm/leg. Would you call someone diabetic a danger to people because they carry around sharp needles with insulin and could potentially stab someone in the eye with it? I'd like to think no. It's not get fault to be sick, or mine. It's an chemical imbalance in the brain. Something we were born with and/or have developed throughout our upbringing due to abuse or mistreatment. If you want to blame anyone to being dangerous, blame yourself. There is a reason for high suicide rate of bp's.
I agree that bipolar people are not necessarily violent if they stick to the treatment plan. I don't know why that woman was like that, but it doesn't have to be because of her illness. Mentally ill people can be mean and violent for reasons that have nothing to do with their illness. In fact most people with mental illnesses are more likely to be attacked by chronically normal people than the other way around. A lot of this stuff is just prejudice.
Not taking up on either sides, but bi-polar people can be violent. If they're stubborn and stop taking their meds because they "feel better" or don't like the way they feel while on them, that's on them, not on the guy who had a knife-wielding woman in his house.

I love my Domino's, only place that will deliver to my neighborhood. We are a quiet residential street on the edge of some a little less quiet. They have done things like go get extra pop or return the wrong pop I ordered, even, one time. I tip very well just because I don't have to cook or clean up and I get hot food at home. They are good people. And no, I don't drive so no way to go anywhere else so it's my once a month treat. And the food is good enough to be worth it!
I have been bipolar now for many years - and I tell you when I go manic I don't get violent. I tend to get sucked into projects (like I'll stay up for 4 days straight repainting the house) but not once have I even gotten violent. Mental illness is different for everyone, and stories like this that demonize it do NOTHING to get people help.
I once had a bipolar girlfriend. After she moved out, I found that she had hidden my missing chef's knife under the couch cushions. What was she planning?
This girl has much worse issues than bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder runs in my family, plus I know a lot of bipolars and, if anything, they are less likely to be violent than others with BPD, anger issues, substance abuse issues (prescription drugs as well). Often other mental illnesses are given the label bipolar when they are actually suffering from something much worse.
I had a bi-polar with a side of narcissist parent that nobody tried to help (couldn't) or stop(wouldn't). I get it.

BI POLAR is being slung around and used waaay too much for people that are not in fact BI POLAR. Calling all unstable people BIPOLAR must be easier than getting to the root of why their instability is happening. Chemical Imbalances are no joke.

People need to learn about mental health. Also, Bi-polar can be at different levels and can be controlled via the right help and,or medication.

Considering he was in a relationship with this girl, you'd have hoped he would have educated himself about the condition and tried to be supportive. So really the pizza tracker did nothing. He was getting a pizza delivered and the delivery guy noticed there was something not right going on. Also, had he paid any attention to the ex-girlfriend's mental illness he might know a little more about her triggers and how to calm her, rather than relying on a pizza delivery guy to call the cops.
Well, not exactly nothing, it DID provide him hope. What really saved him was Domino's "30-minutes or less" delivery policy, and the delivery driver's quick reaction.

10 yrs of marriage, things went south in the end. She went to a psychologist : Bi-Polar. Blamed me for being so. Refused treatment. Now i understand all those mood swings, always stood by her tho. Never appreciative. I never went to the cops when covered in cuts & bruises. Forgave her for cheating, caught her 2nd time. Fleed my home for the sake of my sanity & life. Devorcing. Asking for joint custody as i fear for our daughter....
I think this is completely fabricated, who relays an upsetting episode by peppering it with delightful comments about pizza. It sounds like a really bad B movie. All reference to mental illness aside.
I have a sister who is bipolar. He never said all bipolar folks act that way, just his ex girlfriend. My sister is absolutely toxic most of the time and ruined all family relationship with her. I get it.
Me too. I had an extremely close friend with bipolar. She was a little off usually, but nothing major. I found out she was bipolar when she went off her meds. She became so horrible to deal with and so toxic to her family and herself. I had to fully cut her out of my life and block all contact because she was so unstable. My friend has a bipolar sister who truly insane off her meds, she has torn that family apart. I get it too.
Load More Replies... I have compassion for people who suffer from mental illness. I myself suffer from depression. But I also see his need to end a relationship that involves stalking and violence. People stay in these relationships sometimes because of a fear of leaving, and what might happen. When one person does not want to continue with the relationship, it can trigger this kind of behavior. The ill person is feeling abandoned and desperate. On the other hand, he feared for his life. I'm glad he was ok, and I hope she was able to get the care that she needed.
Social stigma is bad enough, but in the case of the BAD, learning in depth about it only serves to reinforce it, so, fair or not, the advice is a reasonable one. Removing the stigma doesn't remove the liability. There is a greater risk in getting involved with someone with a disorder than with a healthy person so why would you want to consciously do it to yourself, if you can help it? Asking someone to do it just because there are functioning people with the BAD is asking someone to play the Russian roulette just because some of the chambers are not loaded.

Thank god he ordered pizza online that night :/ That sounds absolutely terrifying. I know all about the dangers of bipolar disorder. I had two brothers suffering from type 1 and type 2 of bipolar disorder. One is no longer with us anymore sadly, he had many demons, but I loved him deeply, but he was dangerous at times. One time He nearly killed me and our other siblings in his car during a moment of suicidal urges. I managed to calm him down but I never let him drive me anywhere again. The other brother is still alive, but is so messed up, and very dangerous a lot of the time, I no longer have anything to do with him because he is just out of control and always lieing and causing problems. He once attacked me with a hockey stick and knocked me out cold. It is a difficult place for everyone when you have someone in your life struggling with being bipolar.
Yeah, bipolar can be bad if it's untreated but the thing to do isn't "whoops, they're crazy, time to go". Please let's not generalize that way, it doesn't help anyone.
I stopped reading after the first sentence. "Dating bi-polar girls is a bad idea". That's discrimination plain and simple. I'm bi-polar and I take my medication and see a therapist and am manageable. Everyone has bad days, even "normal people" so it's it's a gross misconception to paint all bi-polar girls with the same brush. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but it's unfair for you to assume we're all like that.

I have an ex boyfriend who is bipolar. He never took medication for his condition and he was very abusive. If medication is not taken, bipolar people do become psycho.
This is an over generalization. I have been diagnosed and even before I had meds I wasn't a dangerous person. I'm not trying to dismiss your suffering, but I think some folks here are jumping to the conclusion that everyone is nice and considerate (or something like that) without this illness (or similar) illness. Let's remember that some people are just horrible or mean or selfish or abusive or manipulative, etc to begin with and that can't be medicated away.

I hate you for saying that. Did the fact that she was sick have anything to do with the story? No. You're just increasing the stigma towards mentally sick people. I'm bipolar, have never tried to hurt anyone, yet I have a crippling fear of getting close to anyone because of people like you that fuels stigma towards someone who has an illness, something that we can't control. Would you tell people to stay away from people with a broken arm? Or a leg? It's not their fault that they can't properly use their arm/leg. Would you call someone diabetic a danger to people because they carry around sharp needles with insulin and could potentially stab someone in the eye with it? I'd like to think no. It's not get fault to be sick, or mine. It's an chemical imbalance in the brain. Something we were born with and/or have developed throughout our upbringing due to abuse or mistreatment. If you want to blame anyone to being dangerous, blame yourself. There is a reason for high suicide rate of bp's.
I agree that bipolar people are not necessarily violent if they stick to the treatment plan. I don't know why that woman was like that, but it doesn't have to be because of her illness. Mentally ill people can be mean and violent for reasons that have nothing to do with their illness. In fact most people with mental illnesses are more likely to be attacked by chronically normal people than the other way around. A lot of this stuff is just prejudice.
Not taking up on either sides, but bi-polar people can be violent. If they're stubborn and stop taking their meds because they "feel better" or don't like the way they feel while on them, that's on them, not on the guy who had a knife-wielding woman in his house.

I love my Domino's, only place that will deliver to my neighborhood. We are a quiet residential street on the edge of some a little less quiet. They have done things like go get extra pop or return the wrong pop I ordered, even, one time. I tip very well just because I don't have to cook or clean up and I get hot food at home. They are good people. And no, I don't drive so no way to go anywhere else so it's my once a month treat. And the food is good enough to be worth it!
I have been bipolar now for many years - and I tell you when I go manic I don't get violent. I tend to get sucked into projects (like I'll stay up for 4 days straight repainting the house) but not once have I even gotten violent. Mental illness is different for everyone, and stories like this that demonize it do NOTHING to get people help.
I once had a bipolar girlfriend. After she moved out, I found that she had hidden my missing chef's knife under the couch cushions. What was she planning?
This girl has much worse issues than bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder runs in my family, plus I know a lot of bipolars and, if anything, they are less likely to be violent than others with BPD, anger issues, substance abuse issues (prescription drugs as well). Often other mental illnesses are given the label bipolar when they are actually suffering from something much worse.
I had a bi-polar with a side of narcissist parent that nobody tried to help (couldn't) or stop(wouldn't). I get it.

I am with Mama Panda on this, quit taking others experiences so personal. I agree with him after surviving a 3 yr marriage to a bi-polar who'd quit taking his meds and not say a word.
BI POLAR is being slung around and used waaay too much for people that are not in fact BI POLAR. Calling all unstable people BIPOLAR must be easier than getting to the root of why their instability is happening. Chemical Imbalances are no joke.
Awesome story but extremely wrong to point at bi-polar people in this way. I am very surprised that a mental disorder like this is being generalised in this way. People need to learn about mental health. Also, Bi-polar can be at different levels and can be controlled via the right help and,or medication.

Considering he was in a relationship with this girl, you'd have hoped he would have educated himself about the condition and tried to be supportive. Also, had he paid any attention to the ex-girlfriend's mental illness he might know a little more about her triggers and how to calm her, rather than relying on a pizza delivery guy to call the cops.
Well, not exactly nothing, it DID provide him hope. What really saved him was Domino's "30-minutes or less" delivery policy, and the delivery driver's quick reaction.
