40 Times Pit Bulls Mixed With Other Breeds, And The Result Was Absolutely Pawsome
Pit Bulls receive a lot of bad press. But aggressive dogs aren't born -- they're made that way. Maybe they weren't socialized as puppies, maybe their owner abused or starved them into adulthood. Luckily, there's a good, uplifting case for each of these sad ones. And Bored Panda is ready to prove it.
To show you that any dog can be absolutely adorable -- no matter how much Pit Bull is in their genes, we compiled a list of some of the cutest mixes this breed is responsible for. From energetic pups to wise old-timers, continue scrolling and meet the gang!

Interestingly, 'Pit Bull' is an umbrella ter that includes several breeds: American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier, and American Bully.
Bronwen Dickey, author of Pit Bull: The Battle Over an American Icon, is one of the people who attempted to show that negative views about pit bulls have often been shaped by misunderstandings. In the process, however, Dickey has unwittingly become a heroine for the pro-pit bull community and the target of threats and harassment from those who see her as an apologist for a vicious animal.
"People who have studied Pit Bull attacks, like Jeffrey Sacks at the CDC, have shown that when it comes to fatalities caused by Pit Bulls, the breed identifications are often not accurate," Dickey told National Geographic. "The title 'Pit Bull' has expanded so dramatically over the years that people are lumping any dog with a large head and short coat into that category rather than separating out each of the Pit Bull breeds."
Dickey also pointed out a study on fatalities between 2000-2009 in the journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association which found that in over 80 percent of those cases there were four or more significant factors related to the care and control of the dog. "These were dogs that had not been socialized; were large and sexually intact; and had no relationship to the person who was killed. In other words, perfect storm of factor upon factor."
Moreover, even the "these dogs are bred for fighting," argument is only partially corrent."It's true that the original breed, the American Pit Bull Terrier, which originated in 1889, was developed for fighting. But the three other breeds that are lumped into this category have always been dog show conformation breeds," Dickey said. "They don't have that heritage. The fact that they get lumped in is part of the problem because we’re basing things on what they look like and not necessarily what they are."

This is disappointing. I feel like this is promoting breeding, which is never ok. Many of these dogs will suffer from numerous health issues because some idiot thinks it "cute!". C'mon people! Stop.

Won't this be an improvement since this is outbreeding? Isn't a beagle crossed with a pit better off in gene diversity than a beagle with a beagle which concentrates deleterious genes?
Some of these will be worse for it. And the majority of breeders and buyers don't consider the health of the mix, they only care about looks.

Not really. If someone is promoting . Lets say it's dangerous, like all the people trying to breed. It is serious.
2/2 it can be reversed if there's enough of the original stock left) But you always have to take into account that other things come together with the new desired trait. Like in the German Shepherd, they tried to outbreed the problem with the hips (in Germany), but there were other health-issues that came to light. The hips are better now... they have different problems now (like heart-problems, problems with the elbows and so on - though I'm sure they were there before, too) If you only ever breed one breed with a different one, you can create very nice-lookiing dogs, but once you breed with the offsprings, things get lost again. So many "Breeds" like the labradoodle are not a breed because they just take Labrador + Poodle and that's it. It's a mix. Just costs more.
Sometimes, it can actually be, true. But just randomly picking one dog and putting them together with another from a different breed is not "breeding". That's just "producing puppies". If you wanted to better the breed, you'd need full health-checks and also a good look into the parents and grandparents. How old did they get, what issues did they have - stuff like that. Then, if you wanted to actually change the breed long-term, you'd have to make sure the things you want to change stay inheritable. If you want longer noses or less wrinkles for example, you'd need to make sure that the offsprings can also breed to that trait. And of course you can't just do it one time, you'd need more dog-couples to make a stable, large gene-pool so the new breed won't one day be completely related to each other. It's a SHIT ton of work to make a new breed, and it's a bit easier to breed for a body-type (it's easy to create atrocities like the pug and the very-wrinkly Shar Pei, and it can be 1/2

Pit bulls have serious health issues, notably joint and hip issues with some needing hip braces to walk and being in frequent pain. Mixing them with healthy breeds creates health risks for the pups. Mixing them with unhealthy breeds like chihuahuas is no better than having a purebred of either parent. Breeding unhealthy traits into dogs to make them "cute" is vanity and animal cruelty.
There is no such thing as an ugly dog or a mean dog or a bad dog. There are only sweeties. Adopt and save two lives, yours and the pup.
Well sometimes there are sweeties who were messed up by people, and you can't just ignore them. If we try to say those dogs are completely fine it's not going to help the issue.

I'm hoping all these are pound puppies ( adopted and or rescued). Cross breeding these are unnecessary, and.not ways healthy for the dog.

Some of the mixed with these gentle breeds might became a gentle dog? Kind like mixed with Border Collie, Lab, Collie, Golden Retriever, Poodle, Spaniel, Australian Shepherd, Yorkie. I dunno about the small breed dog though, their health would be questionable.
And with what can we cross breed cruel people to become gentle human breed?? Where is the kindness in humankind?

I'm more interested in why are are you threaten by dogs? I would want to care a weapon behind you, i would not behind any dog or cat or cattle or wolf or bear. You seem troubled and dangerous. I could not handle meeting you in the wild. Or in a city, you seem very dangerous.
They are all beautiful and I belive that some of the mixes could have really nice temper/personality. But not all of them. I don't think it's a good idea to mix pitbull with shar pei, chow chow or shiba, for exampel. I'm a shiba owner myself and I absolutely adore the breed. But shiba has certain qualities that wouldn't mix well with other charachteristics as the explosive energy in the pitbull.

A chihuahua is not a dog Mc Sandybutt, they are aliens created by some crazy people, they now suffer from liquid in the brain hole to join misfunction, HAPPY HUMANS?. Pitbulls are mixbreeds, they are fine. No they aren't all DOGS. Some are experiences, and i hope that someone would feel like they feel to know they weren't right when "creating" some dogs or cats breeds.

Our pit bull is the sweetest dog, with some of the most adorable expressions ever seen. That statement sounds like you are perpetuating the myth that pit bulls are bad dogs. I'm disappointed.

It's a fact that certain breeds can be aggressive as the result of such behavioral traits being bred into them for generations. Not all dogs of an aggressive breed will behave that way but they're more likely to. "We integrated behavioral data from more than 17000 dogs from 101 breeds. Across 14 traits, we found that breed differences in behavior are highly heritable." - Excerpt from Highly Heritable and Functionally Relevant Breed Differences in Dog Behavior, a paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

" aggressive dogs aren't born" oh BP how wrong you are. Yes aggressive ARE born. Genetics are a huge factor in a dog's personality! Just like humans, dogs' brains can be wired funky. ANY dog can be aggressive but a "breed" bred for decades to be used a fighting dog? That gets hard wired into their brains and WILL always be there. Quit deluding people that it won't.

I LOVED ALL OF THEM!!! I wish people were as excepting as dogs. I have 4 rescues and all are diffrent breeds and colors and came from diffrent situations but they all have excepted me and eachother and all they know is they are family one big crazy diffrent loving family! Yesterday's mutts and Heinz 57s are today's "designer dogs."
If I knew they were putting this together I would have submitted the pitbull-beagle mix I saw at the dog park a few years ago. Think of a crowd of Sunday dog owners all pausing and gasping when they saw the body of a pit bull in absolutely perfect beagle coloring. Just the funniest thing I've ever seen and Mr Popular that day.
There is an american staffordshire terrier color that is THIS ONE. Because color is not a thing, in many breeds, you can see an american staffordshire with the color of a rottweiler. It is mindblowing if you say so, but they are pitbulls so mix and mix and mix and mix.But some people still say that they are willing to eat you when you sleep, setting a fire and give it to satan! YEAH!They sure will did it! They have a big head and big cheeks (that's not a kissing path like we all knew it, it's satan!)

I think it would be best for dog breeds to be more mixed again to eradicate the various health issues certain breeds are prone to... I am 100% proponent of responsible and controlled dog breeding.

Mine was a rescue, literally off the freeway on ramp. Her lineage is most likely due to poor fencing and irresponsible dog owners. Still, I love her like she was my daughter, cannot imagine how anyone could have abandoned her

Proceed with great caution for so many sane reasons. This is dog breeding at it's very worst. Most of these experiments will wind up at the pound for temperament reasons. Pit bulls kill. They are banned in thousands of US cities and on military bases. The latest pit bull killing in the US was August 26, a man in St Clair county IL was killed by two pit bulls. Now people are breeding these killers with loving dogs who won’t have a chance because they are part pit. This breed needs to be terminated. There is nothing adorable about a breed that kills babies. It’s in their dna to kill. Stop breeding these evil dogs with normal dogs, it’s not “cool”, not “woke” it’s sick. It’s not the owner, it’s the dog.
People kill each other every day. Are we outlawing stupid humans now?! It's not in a dogs DNA to kill. Do your research and read about what dogs are actually involved in ALL dog bites. Golden retrievers bite just as many people as other dogs do but that doesn't make the news. The only reason pitbulls do is because their bite is so strong.

Natural instincts doesn't disappear because of breed. A golden retriever can kill despite their stereotypical image. With proper training, all dog can be loving. So you think all dogs are loving except pit bull? A chihuahua will rip you open if it wanted to.
@Thomasin Grace, the fact you separated pit bulls from "normal dogs" is pissing me off. Some of those "normal dogs" are aggressive, a pain in the ass, and almost impossible to train. If you're gonna call a breed that are trained to be aggressive "evil", I'd say all breeds are freaking evil because all dogs can be trained to be aggressive. But we all know damn well that the "evil" ones are selfish humans.

Oh please, it's not in their DNA to kill! It's asshole humans who "train" them that way. My sisters-in-law's pit is the sweetest dog I've ever met. The most terrifying dog I've ever met was a miniature poodle.
Not necessarily true. Like GSD's with inherently weak hq's, pugs and bulldogs with flat faces, pekes with poppy eyes etc- these are all traits that are bred into future generations by selective breeding. You do get genetic lines of pit bulls that are predisposed to agression (as can be found in any other breeds) and those are specific lines that need to be discontinued.
They are simply not evil. Irresponsible people have created a situation for these loving dogs where they are feared and left without caring families. Worse, they've contributed to uninformed people who spread misinformation which worsens the plight of Pitts. Everyone should educate themselves before making such divisive statements.
The only one here who "needs to be terminated" is you. That way if thinking needs to die out. Every pittie that I've known are the sweetest dogs, who are only lethal if they lick you to death. Shut up and spend some time in the real world.
