I Explored The Remains Of An Abandoned Mansion Filled With American History

I’ve photographed many abandoned houses in my career. However, none have been filled with as much American history as this one. The house and a lot of its belongings date back to at least the 19th century. The owner was a prominent government official and known nationally and was a well-respected man in the town. Take a look inside to see what was forgotten and left behind.

It is times like this when I wish I was "filthy rich" and could buy this house and restore it, the furniture and even the photographs! AND LIVE THERE!!!

So how long had it been deserted, why was there no dust on the photos, furniture, how did the furniture seem to stay in such good condition? I have many questions

Yeah, something's off here. Outside of the flaking paint there's too much stuff and it's in to good of condition.

I immagine some kind of tragedy, or fleeing tragedies. Usually it's wars and change of regimes that force some families out of their homes.

What a waste. There are some really nice antiques (that I would give my eye teeth to have) just rotting away in there—-not to mention the house itself!

I'm shocked that someone hasn't come in and taken everything--there are some gorgeous and very expensive antiques in there. From the air-conditioner, it looks like it was occupied not that long ago. I imainge the locals would know what happened. Sigh.

Something tells me this isn't real. Oh, I'm sure it's an old house and all that, but the stuff inside looks too "staged." Like it's part of a historical display or something.

After mother died Jackie told me she’d hired all these people to renovate the house, but I didn’t want Jackie and Lee to grab the house, so I sold it quickly for mere pennies. The people who bought the house, Ben Bradlee and Sally Quinn, were perfectly wonderful, sweet and kind. There are some nice people in the world, you know, I just don’t happen to be related to any of them.

Grey Gardens, that's exactly what this reminded me of. I remember seeing that documentary years ago. It was very sad to see. FYI, I gave an upvote but you're still at negative one. :/

I have...questions. Sure, there's flaking paint and a badly maintained exterior and so on, but otherwise the place and furnishings are in great shape with little to no dust, etc.

Can't something like this be refurbished? New paint, anti-mold solutions for the walls, aired out, new furniture, etc?

Don't let the Americaa pickers crowd find out where it is, they'll clear the place out. My grandparents farm was semi abandoned for a while, someone would check it a few times a week. Those type shows were popular and we noticed an uptik in the number of times some clown tried to break in or cart something off.

I’m guessing this place was abandon maybe in the 1990’s because the paint, wallpaper and fabric choices. I think that’s why it looks odd. I have an old house and try to furnish it with antiques. If my house were ever abandon there would be little modern furniture.

I saw an article that said the photographer was recently "granted access" to take the photos. That tells me this is not an abandoned property. That would explain the nice, dust-free interior.

It's sad that rich people would rather let a mansion literally rot to the ground rather than just sell it to someone who would be willing to give it the TLC it needs to bring it back into glory.

So this is all staged, right? It looks like someone found an abandoned house and then moved in a bunch of "period piece" furniture and old photos just for the photo op. Like there is NO WAY that house was abandoned as is. It's way too clean...and not, "I cleaned it to show off the furniture" clean but like this is completely fake. Why are people so desperate for the attention and validation of strangers?!? It's a disease and this whole post is a hot pile of B.S.
