26 Photos Of Americans In Their Bedrooms Let Us Take A Glimpse Into Their Private Lives
Barbara Peacock is a successful American commercial photographer based in Portland, Oregon. She has recently started a new project where she aims to photograph the hidden and transparent complexities of who Americans are as individuals and a nation through detailed and intimate portraits taken in the bedrooms across the USA.
The people in her photographs come from different backgrounds – some of them are friends of the author, and others are just strangers who she invites to participate in the project in various ways, for example, on social media or by leaving a card with all the information at local shops. Scroll down to see this unique approach for yourself.

Her quilt brings back fond memories of my Grandma. She made all of her grandkids special ones. I still have mine. I miss her.
Ahh the typical bachelor pad ... but where's the hot plate and empty KD boxes?
God love him...widower, very faithful wife...but leaves the reminders of her and her Faith around him to...feel close to her....that's my guess
Let your freak flag fly, baby! Wow. There is a LOT going on in this room. I'm fascinated by the rainbow keyboard, too.
The classic bedroom that feels like a prison cell look. I was that young once. It'll get better, my friend, trust me.
Having worked in a nursing home, here is my suggestion for those of you who want to hug her and be with her: do exactly that!!! So many of these amazing people either have no family or family that lives far away. They want the company! Being a volunteer or even just going to visit them would honest to god make their day.
Looks like the only person still connected to the world is looking out the window.
She'll be the one to get out and make a better life for herself.

Classic. Both parents staring at their phones while the kids are ignored.
Yes because absolutely every. single. waking. moment. of a parent's day should be devoted to their children. Don't judge. That little boy is listening to something and the little girl seems perfectly content looking out the window. Nothing wrong with Mom and Dad taking a minute to be on their phones. Maybe they're texting the grandparents about the family gathering. Maybe they're making a grocery list. Maybe its playing a game so they can just enjoy a quiet morning before the day goes nuts. Get off your high horse.
Load More Replies...Yes. Looks like they are snug on space. But at least they are together as a family. Important v. insignificant. You do the math.
But they are NOT together as a family! This is what is so wrong about 'families" these days. The parents are distracted and on their phones! The kids look bored and unstimulated, which they probably are! For this to be a good family scenario, there would be no technology - they would be talking, sharing & laughing with each other, or playing games TOGETHER or reading books TOGETHER. So wrong!
Load More Replies...It’s a bit of a sad sight and hopefully not the rule in that household. They seem disconnected, one child already adapted to it and the other seems to still want to be in the outside world. Like I said, hopefully this was just a downtime moment and not the rule.
It looks like tight spaces for a growing family in probably or hopefully a two bedroom apartment (for the moment) where the family is adjusting to the spaces; and the room the parents chose has a stackable washer and dryer in it.
I love the way everyone is judging them for not playing with the kids. I guess My childhood was different. We didn't have cell phones, hell we had a black and white television until I was in 3rd grade and my folks were on TV (news). Nobody dotes on their children constantly and not every child wants their parents attention constantly. The fact that there are two parents there is a blessing. If this makes you mad, get off Bored Panda yourself and play with your own kids.
Kids look like they want parents that actually want to spend time with them over the phones :(
This could be a lazy Sunday morning. Too bad almost all of them are lost in space. It could have been family fun time. A time to have fun and cuddle in the big bed as a family.
as long as the kids are well fed, dressed & taken care of. The parents are doing the best they can.
Youngest in family is currently living in her reality. How long before she's wired up and connected?
They are a hipster couple with a w/d used as a dirty laundry storage. 😊
Everyone looks bored...perhaps enjoying the outdoors may be a good idea.
This to me is the saddest. Instwas of cuddling, talking, tickling, telling stories they are all ignoring each other but mostly loosing out on a time spend loving the kids and making memories 😩😩😩
I'm more disturbed by both parents on their phones and completely disengaged from their children. And we are wondering why young people are losing their inter-personal communication skills..
You are mad just by seeing one picture. You assume that they don't play with their kids. When did it become a rule for parents to spend every second of their existence fusing over their children? As a mother of 2 young children myself, a toddler and a baby, I can say there is absolutely nothing wrong to have a bit of time to ones self otherwise we would go crazy. It is exhausting taking care of young kids, so for both the parents sanity and for the safety of the kids, there is nothing wrong with taking a break and have a little me time, even though it only lasts for a minute anyway. Otherwise we would be miserable zombies who can't take care of them anyway. So please relax, let mommy and daddy relax. The kids are safe anyway, what are you MAD for???

Don't you want to make up these people's stories? I see this one as working on the novel he is secretly writing, before he goes to work at his bartending job at the cowboy bar.
Now is the kiddo taking a pic of the photographer? That's cute!
I really like this series of pictures! Too bad there's only 27, I could have scrolled through these for hours :P
The ones of older people are fascinating and sad. So much history that maybe only they will remember
The first photo made me feel so sad. This looks like a mature woman without resources living on a minimal income.
Load More Replies...The sheer amount of accent furniture that is the same from pic to pic makes it clear these are all staged, and not well. See the "antique" nightstand in several pics, the leopard chair, etc. These aren't real, which is a real shame. Great pics, but not authentic.
I couldn't find the leopard chair more than once (the second time is just another photo of the same person in the very same room) but I definitely see that antique nightstand at least twice, and maybe even one of the dressers.
Load More Replies...Most of these photos speak clearly of poverty and desperation. The contrast with the luxury of the others is especially jarring.
Really great images. Compositions are engaging. and I love the use of natural light. Five Gold Stars.
The mess and clutter in most of them made me feel like I'm a damn good housekeeper.
Hello? I'd like to report a bug. Some of the pics are missing animals in them (mostly cats)!
bedrooms tells a lot about the person in you and sometimes things about yourself you might not even know. In fact a good place where you can perform your own psychotherapy..... giggle
I do think numbers 7 and 8 might be the same guy in 2 different places lol
Great photos, but some text, a fuller story, would have made all of these into actual photojournalism
It would be cool if an artist (collaborating with a historian) made a book of drawings that show how people slept throughout history, starting all the way back to when we were hunter/gatherers.
I view the way a bedroom looks as the state of mind of the occupant. We are in big trouble. A very revealing and important series.
If someone is in the bedroom taking pictures then consciously or unconsciously they are posed. So how realistic and intimate can they be?
I'm a bot disappointed. Do no gay and lesbians Americans exist with their partners sleeping in the same room?
Sure they do! These are either her pals or volunteers, per the opening statements. Maybe the right gay or lesbian couple just hasn't volunteered yet. ;)
Load More Replies...Great photography! So much decluttering needs to happen. A lot of these make me feel so anxious.
It doesn't "need to happen" if the people living there like it or aren't bothered by it.
