10 Incredible Photos Taken Inside Music Instruments By A Romanian Photographer
Romanian artist Adrian Borda doesn’t play any musical instrument. But that doesn’t mean he can’t use them to mesmerize us. As an artistic experiment, Borda has started shooting them from the inside, and the view from within is just as mystical as the notes that come out from there.
“I live in Reghin, Romania, also called the city of violins,” Adrian told Bored Panda. “Most of the violins in our country are made here. I’m a surreal painter and many of my paintings contain violin themes.”
“I don’t know much about the instruments I have already photographed, they were broken, open for repairs, so I was able to put the cameras inside them. The first that I shot was a double bass that I found in a friend’s shop. The second was a very old French cello from Napoleon’s times that I found in the city of Amiens, in an orchestra director Dominique Leroy’s house.”
Adrian found most of the inspiration for the project in a promotion campaign of the Berlin Philharmonic orchestra. “I had no idea how the images were made, and I wasn’t even sure if they were photos or digital renderings, so this project was a real challenge. I had a few ultra-wide macro attempts before specialized lenses like Laowa 15mm macro appeared.”
“It was a really nice and fun challenge to create the right atmosphere inside. One time, I used wood dust, and the best light was a light bulb from the ceiling. I was moving the cello all around the house to play with different angles of light. I hope the series will continue, I’m planning to photograph more instruments and other interesting objects from unusual perspectives.”

Share on FacebookI'd like to dust, renovate and move into the guitar or violin. The saxophone looks scary
I've played the cello for nearly 5 years now and I never thought to look at it this way. Beautiful!
It is a well known thing that the inside of the guitar looks like a neat expensive apartment. Now, my personal impression about the other two. The violin and cello kinda look like a hidden and unfinished (or abandoned?) sanctuary, because of the lights shapes from the "roof", very game-like. The saxophone one looks like the pollution developed monstrous creatures that destroyed the city. What we see is the home of one of the beast who prefers to live underground. Once, it used to be a subway line.
I play the sax and I say that all saxophones are beautiful and perfect ❤ Love you saxophones and don't ever take c**p from anyone else 😘
Wow!! Some of these have a mysterious, abandoned feeling to them that makes me want to go in there for an adventure. I think this might be what ancient tombs looked like
One of the photo titles says that they instruments were broken. He might've put his camera in an open hole in the side. Or, the instruments were still being put together.
Load More Replies...This photos so beautifully capture the resonating music that comes from these wonderful instruments. I feel like I could live in one of these beautiful places. No windows or doors, but a great skylight!
Makes me want to shrink down and explore this space! Creative and well done :)
Cool photos, but. . . . any violin-type instrument with a brace running across the center of the back is a bass. They are mixed in with both the violin and the cello shots.....
Beautiful pix - how often do you see something original online anymore? Very nice.
What an artist! It looks spectacular, congratulations. Shoot more, expose your work more!
