In “SACRAs”, the Brazilian photographer Gui Guimaraens presents a series of provocative images that raise questions about the boundaries between what is sacred and what is sin. Motivated by the use of light in renaissance paintings, Guimaraens photographed the models Mari Barros and Letícia Sousa without using image processing features, only color matching and contrast. In addition to posing for the photo shoots, Mari also signs the production.

“Each new session new issues are addressed. An image of time making a selfie, an Our Lady like Iemanjá holding a heart with tentacles or a nun who has nothing holy. What is sacred? What is sin? Each one has its interpretation for these themes. I just want to tease.”

* Iemanjá is an African deity of lakes, seas and fertility.
