Syrian Photographer Stops Shooting To Save Injured Boy, Falls On His Knees After Realizing What Happened (NSFW)
A war photographer’s instinct is to take photographs, regardless of what’s happening in front of the lens. But when a massive explosion took out a convoy of buses filled with evacuees in Syria recently, it wasn’t Abd Alkader Habak’s photographer instinct that kicked in: it was his human instinct that made him put his camera down and pick up a boy badly injured by the blast.
“The scene was horrible — especially seeing children wailing and dying in front of you,” he told CNN. “So I decided along with my colleagues that we’d put our cameras aside and start rescuing injured people.” The blast, which briefly knocked out Habak, reportedly killed 126 people, and although the photographer doesn’t know if the boy survived, he said he was still moving and breathing when he put him in the ambulance. Another photographer caught the brave and selfless moment on camera, and later another picture was taken of Habak crying on his knees beside the body of another young victim. “I was overcome with emotion,” he said “What I and my colleagues witnessed is indescribable.” Be warned that some of the following images are graphic.

Share on FacebookIt was a human who build the bombs, it was a human who sold the bombs, it was a human who command to throw this bombs, it was a human who released the bombs. There are humans with the power to stop the bombs. But they are not willing to do so, because of money, faith and ignorance. I cry inside for every useless dying human and I scream inside for every killed child, who never choose a side.
Good point. It's interesting that 'humane' is a synonym for 'compassionate'.

Breaks my heart to pieces. As long as there are people profiting from the weapon industry, they will keep feeding wars. Boils down to money
ok why are we all playing this stupid blame game when we all know it's not just one persons fault that started all this mess
You do have a valid point. A lot of world leaders have a lot to answer for. I would like to ask them, by harming innocent human beings, what are these cruel humans trying to achieve?
Load More Replies...did you konw this terrible attack happend to people who were under blockade of Opponents of the Bashar Assad Regime? when they were evacating their villages? I don't like Bashar Assad too but it's totally wierd how news station tell stories. I hope eventually this terrible civil war end.
We have to stop this... we can stop that non sense :( We are the people...we are the working class...we are legion against 10 on top commanding on us...we have to move... we can't wait and just see... politicians and kings, one day, soon i hope, WE WILL FINISH THESE NIGHTMARES you are provoking... POWER TO THE PEOPLE!!!!
I don't know how more photographers and journalists in these kinds of situations DON'T break down crying. The human animal's best potential trait is empathy, but it seems to be a very rare trait.
Photographers who work in these kinds of environments have very high levels of stress, PTSD, depression, burnout and suicide. They are affected. They also have a needed job to do - what does not get documented is very easy to deny.

I wish I knew. I had a Syrian mate of mine try and answer me that same question. I switched off because it went for far too long. All I can say is that us humans are greedy. As long there is human suffering, world leaders will profit from it.

"The greatest purveyor of violence in the world today is the United States" says Noam Chomsky . It really is a time , long past due ,for Americans to step out of the propaganda model that is the majority of their media. Do some research on your own and stop believing the garbage spoon fed you by CNN or CBS or whatever corporate hacks you watch. Wake up! Follow the clues folks...Assad had nothing to gain from this. Assad is a monster but we are arming ISIS under the guise of being the 'rebels'.
"the following images are graphic". I'd SERIOUSLY love to see a non-graphic image -.-
:( this reminds me of the short film called "One Hundredth of a Second" by Susan Jacobson. I wish there were more people like Habak...

They act like this is SO incredible! OMG! They actually PUT THEIR CAMERAS DOWN TO HELP PEOPLE!!! Thats what they SHOULD HAVE done! We are now applauding people for behaving the way humans SHOULD?!?!
Melody, I assume (from your comment), that you have been surrounded by blasts, explosions, body parts, and death. It sounds so simple, doesn't it? One would hope that people could filter through the terror and chaos and get to work helping. However, we see reports of those that don't even want to intervene in street beatings, or cars that pass as some lays dying on the highway. Yes, people should help each other, but it's naive to assume that in the same terrifying situation, surrounded by blood and death, you'd be any different. This man did an incredible thing. I think many people would turn and run the other way.
