Even though some rescues have been seeing an unprecedented number of foster applications, people shouldn't get a pet just because of the lockdown. The coronavirus pandemic won't last forever, and adopting an animal is a big responsibility.
Kayla Fratt, a certified dog behavior consultant and owner of Journey Dog Training, recommended thinking through these questions before adopting a doggo.
- How much time will you have to care for a dog, now and post-pandemic?
- Do you have the funds to adopt right now? Do you have job security or extra savings to cover unforeseen pet-related expenses?
- How much space do you have for a dog? Does your current housing situation allow for pets?
- How much time and energy are you willing to commit to training a dog?
- Consider your lifestyle. Do you want a dog that can run miles with you every day? Or are you looking for a less active dog that will be content skipping walks here and there?
The same questions can be applied to other animals as well.

Anecdotally, some shelters are even having a hard time filling up with new animals they can pair with potential owners. “We simply aren’t able to intake enough animals with the three closed county shelters not taking stray animals and what appears to be a decrease in owner surrenders during this time,” Patricia Kennedy, the executive director of City Dog Rescue in Washington, DC, told DCist.

Never had a Pit Bull, but they are beautiful, and very gentle. It is the Macho S**t Heads that have to fight this breed that makes them mean by torturing the dogs. Some will fight because of it, and some just lay down and take it. Those are the dogs that Michael Vick tortured and killed! These are wonderful dogs, and I wouldn't think twice about having one! My family has PTSD from Pit bulls. Yes I realize not all pitbulls are aggressive and most are aggressive because of their owners. We had 2 pitbulls attack our goats, killed one goat, and attack my daughter. All without provocation.They were just wandering the neighborhood looking for trouble.
The owners of those dogs should be charged at least with the accessory to murder.

I really don't understand people that can be cruel to an animal, dump an animal and or all of the other horrible things that humans do and have done to animals.. it just boggles my brain. Animals are so pure and innocent; #allanimalsneedlove - however someone hurts an animal, they should have it done back to them.
We have adopted all of our pets over the years! They were/are the best!

Meet Gizzy (will turn 18 on 05/10/22) & Thori (will turn 15 on 07/30/22), adopted back in late October 2010 & in late May 2013, Gizzy came from an abusive former home, Thori´s owners´d gotten a 2nd baby and didn´t have the time for a hyperactive ADHS cat anymore. And I already retired since I am disabled, I´m at home 24/7, except if I have to go shopping, to the bank or to my internistic doctor and have to leave my apartment, which normally doesn´t happen more than once or twice the week. 10380268_1...019559.jpg 
So I'm about to adopt a pet who has been beloved, but is a breed known for not being good with small children, and the current Mommy is having another baby. I'm afraid of being seen by the dog as the guy who took him away from his home. Is that silly? Is there a good way to handle this?
