5-Foot-Tall Artist Illustrates What Being Short Is Like In 15 Wholesome Pics

The world is wonderful even if you’re short. And sometimes especially because you’re short. That’s one of the things that you see in Three Under the Rain’s wholesome and heart-warming Perks of Being Short illustrations.

Illustrator Brisa, who stands at a mighty 152 cm (nearly 5 feet), told Bored Panda what her most favorite perk is: “I love hearing my fiance’s heartbeat when I hug him, but I think that always having legroom, especially in trains, planes or back car seats, is way a better perk.”

Scroll down for the rest of our in-depth interview with Three Under the Rain’s artist Brisa about the Perks of Being Short, her cute drawings, and her advice for budding new artists. Remember to leave us a comment on which of the perks you love the most!

More info: ThreeUnderTheRain.com | Instagram | Facebook

Brisa does cartoon drawings about her daily life with “the man of her life” Joan and their labrador Marly. She uploaded her very first single-panel comic to Instagram in September 2017. Since then, she’s become well-known and now has over 285k followers.

Bored Panda was incredibly interested to find out what inspired the artist to come up with the Perks of Being Short comic series. “I started with the series Short People Problems since I thought it would be fun to laugh a bit about the small daily struggles that short people have to face. They were super well-received, but in the comments, there were always people saying how they didn’t like being short, or how that made them feel less confident or feel that being a short person is a problem itself.”

“Now in my late twenties, I’m totally fine with my height of 152 cm, it’s who I am, and I like it, but there was a time when that was not like that,” she said. “So I thought it could be great to make a parallel series, focused on the perks that being below average height have.”

“My intention with all that was to show that, being short is not bad or good, it just has its own pros and cons, like any other stature. And I never could have thought of the great reception these cute comics had, a lot of people liked them, so why not keep going?”

We also enquired about Brisa’s path as an artist. “I haven’t even thought of myself as an artist. I always liked drawing, but it wasn’t even a thing until I started Three Under the Rain. I used to just doodle in all my high school and college notes. Then I started thinking about making small comic strips about our daily life, and after about a year of having it in mind, I just decided to start doing it and shared my drawings on Instagram since the very first day.”

“I think that this was a key factor in me still doing this two years later. I received a lot of feedback and encouragement sharing my creative ideas online and that’s what made me be regular in drawing and motivated me to keep creating, and therefore what really made me improve.”

She continued: “I’ve always liked art, in fact, when I feel a bit overwhelmed by the Three Under the Rain posts, instead of taking a break from drawing, what I do is just draw other stuff, in a different style, and then I feel recharged to go back to the comic.”

“And most of all, every time somebody sends me a message telling me how much they relate to my posts, how my posts cheer them up, or how much they like sharing them with their loved ones… just knowing that I can make some people happier with my work, is what really keeps me passionate about the comic.”

According to the illustrator of Three Under the Rain, people who want to become artists should “just do it, start, don’t wait for the best time, because it doesn’t exist.”

“And then find what motivates you to keep learning and improving.”

She also gave a shoutout to all of her loyal fans: “I’d finally like to thank all my followers for their support and love, you guys are the ones who made this possible.”

Here’s what some people thought when they saw the illustrations

Bathtubs can be too long for a short person to really relax in. If your toes can't make contact with the far end, you can't lie and relax without your head gong under.

There is a short problem with this list as well everyone’s comments . It is being analyzed from the female perspective. Try being a 5’4” grown man. While I’ve done ok, even secure enough to marry a 5’11” women who loves to wear 3’ heels, most others get the short end of the stick.

I’m 5’11”. My riding instructor used to put me on the little schooling ponies when they acted up and started tossing off kids. It usually didn’t take long for them to settle and act nicely again once someone with more strength and experience rode them. (For those who don’t know, ponies are STRONG, and I wasn’t too heavy for them). I did enjoy riding the 15-16 hand warmbloods a lot more, but that’s because I love jumping and dressage.

Don't forget the sleeves and especially dresses. And then you have to read in the internet how clothes are only made for tall thin women. They are definitely not. In every store I ever went to they were mostly made for chubby, but petite (or slightly pregnant?) hobbits. It's frustrating.

You can wear heels. That one was the only one that I didn't love because I think anyone who wants to should wear heels regardless of height. If people feel threatened or diminished, that's on them. It's awesome being short, but tall women are wonderful too.

This is accurate except if you're a short straight cis guy none of the relationship things depicted here are applicable and very few girls will date you as you're shorter then them. And obviously the wearing heels thing is also irrelevant unless you're into that.

As I've gotten older I have gotten shorter! But as an old lady I feel less embarrassment stopping complete strangers to get stuff down from those high shelves. I have a lot of mixed feelings about being so short. All most every dress, slacks and skirt need to be hemmed. And I have sat behind some of the tallest people in the world!!

I'm 170 cm and I hate this. Ok, normal height, but I feel to tall myself. :( My aunts, cousins, friends and boyfriend are shorter, than me. :/

#7 is BS. You almost never get to stand in the 1st line. And if your somewhere further back you a- see nothing b- here everything muffled down by people around you hat are usually higher

I'm short but just tall enough that almost none of them apply to me

When I want to wash my hands I just put my arms out. No hunching over.

My hubby is exactly 1 foot taller than me and we can so relate to this! I'm 5’4" and he's 6'4"!

This is accurate except if you're a short straight cis guy none of the relationship things depicted here are applicable and very few girls will date you as you're shorter then them. And obviously the wearing heels thing is also irrelevant unless you're into that.

a bunch of these don't apply if you're a short guy. you're not taken seriously and women won't even look at you.

Well......it's hell trying to look for your shorter friend in a crowd! Next time, I'll give him/her a red balloon to carry. Not that I'm that tall, but taller than some friends. My tall friends are easy to find.

All are true but #8 is my favorite.Another positive spin is “I’m not short,I’m fun sized”.Thanks for creating these wonderful illustrations.

Tall people not only provide shade but tall/wide people provide an effective windbreak.

I'm a short male and some of the examples above are relevant to my life. However, there are a number of additions only a short male knows about.

When I bought my wedding gown it was a bit cheaper because it was what they call 'Tea Length' (supposed to fall to your shins and show your shoes) but it worked fine as full length on me..

I'm short, but I'm also 43. I can no longer snuggle comfortably in an arm chair.

Totally loveable. Reminds me of Joan Walsh Anglund greeting cards and books.

I envy the bathtub one. I've been in my house for 13 years and have never used mine.

Number 7 aint a f*****g perk, most likely you are not going to be on first row, so in reality most of the time you wont see s**t. and even if you are on first row, how does benefit YOU to not disturb others?
