Designers From 18 Countries Were Asked To Edit A Picture To Reflect Their Countries’ Beauty Standards And Here Are The Results
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder—or so the saying goes. However, there's also the unspoken rule of beauty standards that varies country to country. It's widely accepted that what is beautiful in one part of the world might not be pleasant in another, which adds to diversity on the global scale. But there's another side to it, as it inflicts somewhat harsh standards on people. In order to point this out, an experiment was conducted by Superdrug Online Doctor to take a closer look at the local beauty standards in several countries and compare how they hold up against each other. According to them, "Since what is perceived as beautiful can vary substantially around the world, our study of the ideal body image attempted to compare as diverse opinions as possible."

In order to explore the different perceptions of beauty in various corners of the world, the site contacted 18 graphic designers and provided them with an original picture of a girl. The goal was for those designers to recreate the picture to reflect the local beauty standards. "Widely held perceptions of beauty and perfection can have a deep and lasting cultural impact on both women and men," said Superdrug Online Doctor. "The goal of this project is to better understand potentially unrealistic standards of beauty and to see how such pressures vary around the world."

The original intent was to have female graphic designers edit the picture in order to have a clearer, woman’s view of what their culture finds attractive and "to understand more about the pressures they face." However, the list of partner designers was expanded to include 4 men, with the requirement that they would seek input from women and change the picture based on their feedback.

End results render the photo almost unrecognizable in some cases. Some countries in North and South America lean towards an exaggerated hourglass figure, presenting a somewhat unrealistic view of women, while certain European and Asian countries favor a very slim and petite build, which in some cases is steering towards unhealthy. Superdrug Online Doctor stated they are planning to further expand the study, with the possibility to include men next time as well.

I like the original photo more than any of these. Stretch marks, collagen, love handles, double d’s, itty bitties, thicc, skinny, short, tall, it’s all beautiful. Beauty standards are stupid
And I thought the US’s body standards were bad... (They still are, but they pale in comparison to some of these).
People need to be careful about what they say about people’s bodies. I (might) have a eating disorder (it hasn’t been diagnosed, but I have most of the symptoms) thanks to some of the idiots at my school.

I get and approve of the point of this, but who exactly are the people who did these photoshops? "We asked female graphic designers from around the world to Photoshop a female form by making her, **in their opinion**, more attractive to other citizens of their country." this is what these particular individuals think their country's aesthetic bias is. I'd love to see this done well
I see BIG BOOBS are universally popular. Now show what men really look like compared to "ideal"
Why are so many of them making her bright orange and lobster red?
So let's see now what "standards" are for men in all these places?

I'd say it's only kind a beauty "wish" of each of the editors. Like 100 men has 100 different oppinons. I have friends who prefer super slim women, I have friends who prefer curves, I have friends who prefer realy fat bottomed girs...some like blondies, some brunettes...you see 🤷🏻♀️
Yikes, yikes, and triple yikes! Who in the world did they get to Photoshop all of these? Many of the poorly shopped images look like these stuck the head of the poor woman in the stock photograph on the body of another person, added a strange orange "Oopma Loopma" filter, and then coloured in her hair using Microsoft Paint. None of these look natural.
I made a koreon version also through edit where can I post it y all gonna like it I swear it really shows the exact koreon beuty
Why are beauty standards still even a thing!? Everyone is beautiful even when society does not think so.
Sure it’s not healthy to be overweight, but it’s also not healthy to be underweight. Most east Asian beauty standards include being skinny skinny, like not just healthy slim but underweight skinny. They encourage people to be unhealthy. Some people may be suffering from ed and is underweight or overweight and that’s understandable because it’s a coping mechanism for some or just pure pressure from the society and beauty standards for others. Everyone has stretch marks, small or big, everyone has cellulites, little or a lot. Nobody has completely smooth skin, unless you’re a child under 10, and everyone has insecurities that may look the ideal for others. It’s all about loving and accepting yourself. The beauty standards are just bs and unrealistic. Sure some might fit the standards but it’s their genetic or hard work or just plastic surgery.
Africa itself is not a country and Mauritanians that is a country in africa actually has females from the age of 5 feed 5000 calories because they see obesity as beauty so not every place in the world is like china. But come on why is this planet like this

Body shaming is a foul and evil thing I agree but pushing everyone to be skinny and healthy isnt. It extends life makes people happier and increases productivity however we have to do it in a kind way without making those who are not their feel less.
