Author Annie Dillard famously said, "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives." So given the fact that the average person spends one-third of their adulthood at work, it's only normal they want to be happy there. Sadly, that's not always the case.
There are plenty of ways companies make their employees' lives miserable: lack of training and two-way communication, excessively strict policies, toxic managers, lousy wages, the list goes on. With their miserable job descriptions and offensive interviews, some organizations even find ways to get under people's skin even before they hire them.
Many of these disappointed folks turn to the internet to voice their frustrations. So in an attempt to recap today's job market and working conditions, we compiled a list of complaints we see online the most.

If we were to look at the numbers, the U.S. job market came through January in much better shape than expected despite a winter wave of coronavirus infections.
According to a new tally from the Labor Department, employers added 467,000 jobs last month, far outpacing even the most optimistic forecasts. Which is even more impressive when you consider the surge in COVID-19 cases brought on by the omicron variant.
The unemployment rate inched up to 4% in January from 3.9% the month before, but that's only because nearly 1.4 million people entered the job market.

But according to a 2017 Gallup poll, only 15% of the world's one billion full-time employees are engaged at work.
Surprisingly, the situation is significantly better in the U.S., where this figure is around 30%, but this still means that roughly 70% of American workers aren't satisfied with how things are going.

But not all of these things are in the hands of the employers. Happiness also depends on our own attitude and perception. "We expect that something has to happen in order for us to be happy," Srikumar Rao, professor at the London Business School, told Forbes.

They found out that robots needs maintenance. Maintenance costs money. They also can break down. Repairs cost money. And if they screw up, they screw up big time. Big time screw ups costs a lot of money. It's stil cheaper to keep those underpaid wage slaves.
To combat this barrage of negativity, Rao believes workers should stop labeling things as good or bad.
"The moment you say something is a 'bad' thing, you experience it that way," he explained. "You live your life in a constant cycle reinforcing itself." Rao rejects the theory of positive psychology which suggests that thinking happy thoughts will make them a reality because according to him, it's a form of self-deception. Rather, he suggests looking at situations as they truly are.

😉 when I was in high school working my first job in retail my boss would send me to the beach to get him an ice cream from a particular shop... He knew full well that there was no way to get the ice cream to him without it being completely melted. I would get him an ice cream from the shop next door before I came back from a 2 hour break on the clock. It was his way of giving me time off on the clock because we had no customers and it was too nice out. I reminded him of his daughter and he was very fatherly to me. I have to ask, and please correct me if I'm wrong as I'm genuinely not trying to be controversial, are a LOT of the posts USA-centric? A lot (not all, but a lot) of them seem to be things I've never experienced or seen happen as a Brit (and I'm guessing other Europeans). It seems seems labour laws are very different in America. Now, I'm not saying elsewhere is some kind of workers utopia but still......
No, you're not wrong or being controversial! Bored Panda and Buzzfeed - and Reddit too, for that matter - are all America-centric. I actually find it really sad, because the majority of the posts are saying how weird America is and generally slating the pay, workers rights, healthcare, political system, lack of gun control and so on...which deserve slating, IMO, but they miss out a lot on how many lovely, forward thinking people live in the States, and wish those things were otherwise. I've never met an American I didn't like, and the country is frankly stunning.
Having said that, maybe it's a good thing these things are spoken about. We in the UK aren't much better off with cost of living, wages not rising in line with inflation, being forced into the private rental scam because of a lack of affordable housing...People are waking up all over the world, and the rich don't care, as long as they stay rich...at least, they don't care yet.
And it's also good that on sites like these, Americans can learn how things are in the rest of the world, and maybe one day start demanding change in meaningful numbers.

Considering how US tries to makes its standards universally, be grateful for these things being said.

I'm very happy in my early retirement in a country where livable wage is a legal requirement and a decent pension is also a legal right, as is medical care. Looks like I'm living the American dream, far, far away from the greatest country in the world.
