There’s always something people have demonized. First it was fat, then it was food additives, and lately it has become sugar. But things people see as evil don't end with our diet.

Other commonly disregarded stuff may have to do with music, like the controversial band known as Nickelback or going to psychological therapy, or not liking animals like rats, tarantulas, and snakes.

We rarely reflect on why specific things cause us such adverse emotions, so this viral thread may give us some perspective. The simple yet thought-provoking question “What doesn't need the hate it gets?” was asked by Redditor u/Alexdoesthedo, and it has clearly produced some very illuminating responses.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Reading.

Even those who read scoff at what others read and it's not necessary.

Reading overall is good for the brain and memory. Comic books, magazines about cars or fishing, romance novels, old classics, it's all reading.

There's no need to feel shame or shame someone for what they read.

At 35 I don't hide it anymore. We need to be the generation that sees mental illness is seen as just that; an illness. Just because we can't see it it's still a horrendous experience whatever you're suffering from.

I was visiting a therapist for 2 years (anxiety, attacks). It is really important, how good the therapist (psychologist) is. My was average, but still helpful in hard things but also i had a lot of fun on sessions, really. Occassionally i still go on few sessions in year, but just to let go all of “things” in my mind and dont bother with this my family :D It really clean my head :)

My dad taught me when I was a kid "you don't tell others about your problems. When you feel sad ,you just go to work and ignore it. It will pass". When I had a major burnout years ago,it took me months before I was willing to find help. My husband talked me into finding a psychiatrist and told me I was by no means weak. I'm glad he did . Not finding help was weak on my part. Now I had to face my demons. You need to acknowledge you need help. You're not living on an deserted island and you can't do everything alone.

Therapy may be good for many people, but if you want to enter certain professions, you had better make sure you have never had any kind of therapy nor have ever taken anti-anxiety meds or antidepressants. If you have, you will be immediately rejected. It's sad, and most unfortunate, but true.

It’s a generational thing too. I have been a big fan of therapy for a long time. I’m 43, but my parents and grandparents just sucked it up and dealt. With its own benefits and definite disadvantages. There are some in the younger generation that can, and of course I am not saying all, use therapy as a sort of confirmation bias for a sense of victimhood with some things that in life you just need to be strong and deal with no matter what you feel about them. The world is in a transition regarding mental health in my opinion, and it is going to take some time and effort to shake some old stereotypes about it.

I started therapy when I was 31. I knew something wasn't right in my life or with me. Don't know how to word it. Turns out mental illness. Looking back I should have started as a kid, but that was unheard of. Take me to the Dr because I won't eat. "It's a virus. She'll eat when she gets over that". Over and over again. No. I wasn't eating because I couldn't stomach what was going on in my home life. Years of therapy and meds. I have Bipoar II disorder. Wanna make something of it? So what. Many times we stigmatize ourselves because it's so hard. We are stigmatized from the outside and that just adds to the whole thing. For the people further down who look down on us, do not be so quick to judge us. I truly hope not, but you might find yourself walking in our shoes. And then, unfortunately, you will understand.

The reason therapy is weird is all a chain reaction. Let me explain. Say we have a little girl. Let's call her Jane. Jane goes to therapy and feels like a freak because of it, so she doesnt tell anyone. Meanwhile, a lot of other kids in her school has this exact problem. When someone tells others about their therapy, well call him Tom, say the news gets shared with Jane. Jane now thinks of Tom as a freak, because Jane thinks of herself like a freak because of the same situation. Make sense?

I used to be that kind of person who thought "therapists are for psychopaths, I am not one so I don't need it".... I was diagnosed with more mental illnesses than you can count on one hand... I am still no psychopath but I sought a therapist and I think my mental health wouldn't get so bad if I treated it sooner. Even people with no mental illnesses should speak with a psychologist every once in a while. It's good for you!

It's a little odd that caring about you physical health is considered a good thing, and one that many people put up for show, with post of how long they have run, how many vegable smoothies they have ingested etc. getting a personal trainer because you want to get into shape and improve on your body is a perfectly normal thing to do. However consulting an expert when it comes to wanting to improve your mental health is just seen as a sign of weakness and not strength. A persons eagerness to improve should never be a thing that is frowned upon.

Yeah, many people feel that anything that starts psych- is bad and makes them crazy. No it is not. It is like going to the gym because you are cripled. No, you go to gym not to be cripled in any way. Thats the same thing with therapy. You go there not to become crazy. If you brake your leg, you seek for a doctor immediately, not a years after.

I tend to agree. If one really needs outside help - get it. But don't use everyone you meet as your therapist, your friends, your work colleagues, the media. Why do some people think that everyone on the planet wants to hear about their issues? We don't. And there are so many professions that will NOT allow any kind of therapy or drugs without losing their job - not right.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved People who want to live a basic, "normal" or "boring" life. 35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Cats. Many people I know absolutely despise them because they think they cant love you the way some dogs can, or they remind you of the stereotype "crazy cat person" or the whole "they're all aggressive/bitey/scratchy" thing. Once I had both dogs and cats (and reptiles!) in my house - and though I love both, cats tended to speak a little louder to me. I'm part of a TNR company and ended up raising one of the cats I caught while searching for my missing cat last month and realized how sweet they can be if you take the time to earn their trust and give them space when it's asked for.

There isn't a muslim-majority country that isn't a hellhole in regards to women's rights. Islam is incompatible with liberalism, the same way 14th century Catholicism is incompatible with liberalism. It's just Monsanto GMO seeds. 1 generation so they can keep selling them, and they don't care if their product does get into organic fields nearby. Losing natural, unmodified seeds to Monsanto's greed is terrifying.

Yes, especially since we are literally made of chemicals.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved TV shows made specifically for toddlers. They are toddlers. It's all colors and shapes and being excited over simple things. That's what toddlers are about. YOU don't need to watch the show. It's not for you.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Nickleback - I'm not a fan, but it's just kind of generic rock music that you are in no way forced to listen to.

I always figured the Nickleback hate was just a meme and everyone is pretty much neutral on them.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Billie Eilish. I don't know what it was that made people go "eeeew, BiLlIe EiLiSh" but come on. She's an interesting person and her music is genuinely good. I'm not one for forcing artists on people, I just don't get when a relatively innocuous musician gets that level of hate.

And while I'm at it: Taylor Swift writing about relationships. Just about every artist in existence has either written about their relationships at least once, or usually write about love/relationships, either through experience or generalization. Why is it okay for people like Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, or Ariana Grande to write about their relationships without much uproar, but when Taylor Swift does it? Sheesh.

I do love that men can dress as women with beards and by embraced by the world, but god forbid a teenager wears clothing she feels comfortable in whilst making some good damn music.

How can people hate body pillows? I have one covered in a plain white sheet and it helped me have the best sleep I've ever had. Honest to god, I recommend everyone to have one.

People do not hate the veganism, we hate the aggressive, "only we can save the world, you f***ng animal killer"-like evangelist vegans.

I think the people who claim to know what a "true fan" is and must know, are much worse!

I don't think people hate boy bands per se. I think they hate the cynical manufacturing of them by music companies. 'OK, so we've got the super handsome one, the goofy one, the sensitive one, the blond one...' 'Can they sing?' 'Sing? who cares?'

Except an actress should be able to ACT AS IF they have emotions. Especially in movies....
