There’s always something people have demonized. First it was fat, then it was food additives, and lately it has become sugar. But things people see as evil don't end with our diet.

Other commonly disregarded stuff may have to do with music, like the controversial band known as Nickelback or going to psychological therapy, or not liking animals like rats, tarantulas, and snakes.

We rarely reflect on why specific things cause us such adverse emotions, so this viral thread may give us some perspective. The simple yet thought-provoking question “What doesn't need the hate it gets?” was asked by Redditor u/Alexdoesthedo, and it has clearly produced some very illuminating responses.

Even those who read scoff at what others read and it's not necessary.

Reading overall is good for the brain and memory. Comic books, magazines about cars or fishing, romance novels, old classics, it's all reading.

There's no need to feel shame or shame someone for what they read.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved People who want to live a basic, "normal" or "boring" life. From all generations, I am constantly hearing locals/normies being made fun of for not wanting a ~fancier~ lifestyle but like... Why does that matter? Besides, just having a roof overhead is luxurious to to some people. Let others live the lives they want to.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Rats. They're some of the funniest, most affectionate and intelligent small pets, with a ton of personality, who actually enjoy engaging with people.

They get a terrible reputation for carrying disease or being aggressive- which is just not true for domestic rats. Growing up I had almost every common pet rodent you can think of, and hands down I'd pick a rat over a hamster any day.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Cats. Many people I know absolutely despise them because they think they cant love you the way some dogs can, or they remind you of the stereotype "crazy cat person" or the whole "they're all aggressive/bitey/scratchy" thing. Once I had both dogs and cats (and reptiles!) in my house - and though I love both, cats tended to speak a little louder to me. I'm part of a TNR company and ended up raising one of the cats I caught while searching for my missing cat last month and realized how sweet they can be if you take the time to earn their trust and give them space when it's asked for.

I'm in favor of practicing any religion you like, but Islam is one of the most intolerant religions to ever exist. There is no Muslim-majority country where being gay isn't hazardous to your health. There isn't a muslim-majority country that isn't a hellhole in regards to women's rights. Islam is incompatible with liberalism, the same way 14th century Catholicism is incompatible with liberalism. If you want to follow Islam, as a liberal I say you do you, but don't expect me to turn a blind eye to the religion's social problems.

A big part of the problem is that a core part of being transgender flies in the face of how most people live: we do not feel comfortable with the body we were born with. It doesn't match who we are. Some can understand, of course (anyone who experiences dysmorphia will be able to relate), but most never even consider the question of whether they're comfortable with their body in relation to their own identity. And honestly, I suspect that those who are most uncomfortable with transgender are the ones who see something of themselves in it but are not willing or able to confront that.

Body dysmorphia sounds awful. I've heard multiple accounts from people describing the sheer joy and relief they felt when they started living as the gender they identified as, and I think perhaps it was somewhat similar to the relief and sense of "rightness" I felt when I realised I was asexual and that there was really nothing wrong with me after all. You'd have to be a right heartless bastard to deny someone that, and especially when it doesn't affect you in any way shape or form.

I've never understood the "hate" of any group of people. However, you must admit there are some very hateful extremists, that, if you don't necessarily agee with their lifestyle, will vilify you and try to "finish" you. I love people, but I don't always agree with their lifestyle. But then, it's none of my business. But I've had a couple of people who have asked me how and what I think. And when I've answered, they went ballistic because I don't agree with their lifestyle. That doesn't mean I hate the people - I don't hate anyone. It's not my business how they live their life and it's not their business how I choose to live mine.

It's none of my business what/who someone is. You are wrong, at least for the United States, Scandinavia, UK, most of western Europe and a lot of other places around the world. Where gender dysphoria is classified by the official medical organizations as a disorder, not an illness. Furthermore, although most trans people experience gender dysphoria, gender dysphoria is a disorder but being transgender is not.

I think far less people hate the LGBQT community, but are annoyed of how companies feel the need to check "diversity" boxes and force it down the customer's throat. With their whole inclusivity they ruin beloved franchises and get the fanbases angry (Marvel is a prime example). To be clearer: It's not diversity that ruins franchises but the focus on it that effects stories, characters, etc. negativley

But you cannot blame that or take it out on the LGBQT community because sleezy corporations have found a way once again to profit off the suffering of other people. As a part of the community I dont buy in to the whole pride month, I have pride 365 days of the year and I dont run and buy rainbows because some rich business man starts selling them in their shop window.

It's just Monsanto GMO seeds. 1 generation so they can keep selling them, and they don't care if their product does get into organic fields nearby. Losing natural, unmodified seeds to Monsanto's greed is terrifying.

Yes, especially since we are literally made of chemicals.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved TV shows made specifically for toddlers. They are toddlers. It's all colors and shapes and being excited over simple things. That's what toddlers are about. YOU don't need to watch the show. It's not for you.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Nickleback - I'm not a fan, but it's just kind of generic rock music that you are in no way forced to listen to.

I always figured the Nickleback hate was just a meme and everyone is pretty much neutral on them.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Billie Eilish. I don't know what it was that made people go "eeeew, BiLlIe EiLiSh" but come on. She's an interesting person and her music is genuinely good. I'm not one for forcing artists on people, I just don't get when a relatively innocuous musician gets that level of hate.

And while I'm at it: Taylor Swift writing about relationships. Just about every artist in existence has either written about their relationships at least once, or usually write about love/relationships, either through experience or generalization. Why is it okay for people like Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, or Ariana Grande to write about their relationships without much uproar, but when Taylor Swift does it? Sheesh.

I do love that men can dress as women with beards and by embraced by the world, but god forbid a teenager wears clothing she feels comfortable in whilst making some good damn music.

How can people hate body pillows? I have one covered in a plain white sheet and it helped me have the best sleep I've ever had. Honest to god, I recommend everyone to have one.

People do not hate the veganism, we hate the aggressive, "only we can save the world, you f***ng animal killer"-like evangelist vegans.

I think the people who claim to know what a "true fan" is and must know, are much worse!

I don't think people hate boy bands per se. I think they hate the cynical manufacturing of them by music companies. 'OK, so we've got the super handsome one, the goofy one, the sensitive one, the blond one...' 'Can they sing?' 'Sing? who cares?'

Except an actress should be able to ACT AS IF they have emotions. Especially in movies....
