There’s always something people have demonized. First it was fat, then it was food additives, and lately it has become sugar. But things people see as evil don't end with our diet.

Other commonly disregarded stuff may have to do with music, like the controversial band known as Nickelback or going to psychological therapy, or not liking animals like rats, tarantulas, and snakes.

We rarely reflect on why specific things cause us such adverse emotions, so this viral thread may give us some perspective. The simple yet thought-provoking question “What doesn't need the hate it gets?” was asked by Redditor u/Alexdoesthedo, and it has clearly produced some very illuminating responses.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Reading.

Even those who read scoff at what others read and it's not necessary.

Reading overall is good for the brain and memory. Comic books, magazines about cars or fishing, romance novels, old classics, it's all reading.

There's no need to feel shame or shame someone for what they read.

way more work goes into children's content than they're given credit for. Just because they are meant for kids doesn't mean a lot of work and effort weren't put into them. Stop looking down on children's content just because they're meant for kids.

A lot of cartoons are multi-layered, story wise. Even though ostensibly meant for kids, many of them still have jokes and allusions that are directed at the parents in the audience, and way enough over the heads of the kids to stay appropriate.

Willi Hanna and Joseph Barbara are legends in my mind...those are the two names that I'd never forget. They made me realise the fun of being a kid. I watch them now and then to recollect the memories of watching these with my friends when we were little. Even at 65, my dad loves Tom and Jerry. It a work of intense imagination and a piece of wonderful art that not many can contest.

Frankly speaking, it is not wise to expect everyone to respect your opinion. This thread points out so many problems, and I think there's a simple solution to that. Domination. If you have a personality or a position where people cannot take you lightly, would they still talk the same as shown in these posts? When a King commands, people don't look at the King, but rather at the sword in his hand. Note that this is not an advice to hurt people, but if one has a powerful personality/aura around him, people won't talk as much shiet as they usually do.

Some of our favorite movies are animated. My husband & I were coming out of a theater one time, laughing and commenting on what an amazing movie that was. A couple walking towards us asked what film we'd just seen. In my best surfer dude/stoner voice I said, "Kung Fu Panda". There were obviously no children with us, so we got some pretty strange looks. Like we care. We just basically big kids anyway.

Grew up on cartoons. Looney Tunes. Yogi Bear. But my all time favorite was an Oscar winning short animation that I can't remember the name but it was about a little African American girl whose father was having to learn how to do her hair. Really great. In the end he was having to do this because Mom was in the hospital being treated for cancer. 💗

While studying for my board examination, I would play all manner of cartoons in the background. The looks I got from people was just odd. I’m studying the intricacies of the human heart and all the pathologies associated with it, while Donald Duck, or Bugs Bunny, or Popeye did their thing in the background. What’s the problem? Are you jealous I don’t have a spare set of headphones for you? Are you angry you’re so desperate to appear better than everyone else that you don’t dare allow yourself to enjoy cartoons anymore? Please. Take your judgement back home, lock yourself in a private room with your favorite snacks, pull up some good old fashioned Original Tom and Jerry, and get over yourself. We all know that you watch it too. We just have the guts to admit it.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved People who want to live a basic, "normal" or "boring" life. From all generations, I am constantly hearing locals/normies being made fun of for not wanting a ~fancier~ lifestyle but like... Why does that matter? They get a terrible reputation for carrying disease or being aggressive- which is just not true for domestic rats. Growing up I had almost every common pet rodent you can think of, and hands down I'd pick a rat over a hamster any day.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Cats. Many people I know absolutely despise them because they think they cant love you the way some dogs can, or they remind you of the stereotype "crazy cat person" or the whole "they're all aggressive/bitey/scratchy" thing. Once I had both dogs and cats (and reptiles!) in my house - and though I love both, cats tended to speak a little louder to me. I'm part of a TNR company and ended up raising one of the cats I caught while searching for my missing cat last month and realized how sweet they can be if you take the time to earn their trust and give them space when it's asked for.

I'm in favor of practicing any religion you like, but Islam is one of the most intolerant religions to ever exist. There is no Muslim-majority country where being gay isn't hazardous to your health. There isn't a muslim-majority country that isn't a hellhole in regards to women's rights. Islam is incompatible with liberalism, the same way 14th century Catholicism is incompatible with liberalism. If you want to follow Islam, as a liberal I say you do you, but don't expect me to turn a blind eye to the religion's social problems.

Orcas and dolphins are actually "meaner" if you want to look at them in a human way, they'll purposely mess with you or hurt you. Sharks might just bite you on accident.

Author Peter Benchley who wrote Jaws regretted how Sharks became feared and hunted and became an advocate for their conservation. Sharks play a very important role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem and they need to be better protected.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Hyenas. Most unfairly villainized and maligned animal in the world all because of some stupid Disney movie. They are not scavengers at all they hunt 90% of their prey and lions steal food off of them far more than they steal off lions. They are highly intelligent predators with an equally important role to play in the ecosystem.

Even if an animal is a scavenger, there is nothing wrong about it. It is important for natural balance.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Teachers.

I can personally confirm that I was a piece of work in grade school - then high school. And it wasn't because of teachers - it was because of me.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Snakes. They are awesome pets and the super dangerous ones don't want anything to do with you. I can't stand people killing snakes they find. To me its like killing a stray dog you find. Just call animal control.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Trans people. Just like many other minorities, most people get little exposure to them other then what they hear and see online. Aka the trans freakouts and anti trans pages aren’t too realistic, along with the tumblr 30,000 genders people, “real” (not because of a coping mechanism or fetish, etc but fr like born that way, ) trans people irl are quite normal.

I never got the hate against trans people (or gay or others). Even if you disagree with their mentality why does it matter? They arent doing anything against you. Let people be.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved GMOs. Humans have been slowly doing that since we started cultivating crops, now we can just do it quicker. And there are millions of people who rely on GMO crops to not starve to death.

It's just Monsanto GMO seeds. 1 generation so they can keep selling them, and they don't care if their product does get into organic fields nearby. Losing natural, unmodified seeds to Monsanto's greed is terrifying.

I always figured the Nickleback hate was just a meme and everyone is pretty much neutral on them.

35 Things That Get A Lot Of Hate But It's Undeserved Billie Eilish. I don't know what it was that made people go "eeeew, BiLlIe EiLiSh" but come on. She's an interesting person and her music is genuinely good. I'm not one for forcing artists on people, I just don't get when a relatively innocuous musician gets that level of hate.

And while I'm at it: Taylor Swift writing about relationships. Just about every artist in existence has either written about their relationships at least once, or usually write about love/relationships, either through experience or generalization. Why is it okay for people like Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, or Ariana Grande to write about their relationships without much uproar, but when Taylor Swift does it? Sheesh.

I do love that men can dress as women with beards and by embraced by the world, but god forbid a teenager wears clothing she feels comfortable in whilst making some good damn music.

How can people hate body pillows? I have one covered in a plain white sheet and it helped me have the best sleep I've ever had. Honest to god, I recommend everyone to have one.

I don't think people hate boy bands per se. I think they hate the cynical manufacturing of them by music companies. 'OK, so we've got the super handsome one, the goofy one, the sensitive one, the blond one...' 'Can they sing?' 'Sing? who cares?'
