Then you're a horribly bad judge of character and should never have been accepted into the military in the first place?? I'm speechless. Which doesn't happen very often...
As an old straight white guy who saw combat in the marines, I always thought this mentality was stupid. If you replaced gay, or female, or transgender with "african american," people would (rightfully) lose their minds. But when you say it about these other types of minority it's ok? If someone is able to fulfill the duties of a position, that should be all that matters.
I openly admit that I was never in the military, so I might be completely wrong, but I was always kinda under the impression that there are more important things to worry about in a warzone than the genitalia of your fellow soldiers... maybe I've misunderstood something?
Call me crazy, but I suspect that if you are in a life or death situation you will trust any person who is armed and on your side. Trans people want to live just as much as you do, buddy.
Maybe more so even, they are happy with the life and body they have chosen.

A life and death situation and the thing that's making you feel uncomfortable is not being sure what shape the genitals are of the person next to you? There speaks someone that has no idea what it would feel like to be in genuine danger

My late husband, a Vietnam veteran, frequently expressed disgust at people who held views like this, often that "gays" could not be trusted. He always pointed out that there have been LBGTQ people serving in the military since the beginning of the country, and that the only thing he cared about was that whoever he was fighting next to had his six, as he did theirs. Never had a problem with any of his fellow service people who he knew were other than straight men or women.

Hasn't stopped women from enlisting, and we know how they can't trust many of their peers and superiors. And yet, they get the job done.
The only possible legit reason i can see to bar transpeople from service would be that they suffer a much higher suicide rate and pair that with the suicide rates of soldiers, we will lose more people. Oh, and possibly the cost and upkeep of their transition regimen and the logistics of providing the advanced care they require in the field. If that could be solved, I'm all for their inclusion into the service, much like how diabetics are now allowed to serve in the military (with conditions, of course)
