In a tweet that long and all AOC could do was point out a missed hyphen that wasn't even part of the insult? That supposed "comeback" was embarrassingly lame.
Actually, that use is correct. You can also use quotes to denote that you are referring to a word as itself and not as its meaning. If you could substitute a word in a sentence with a completely different, totally unrelated word (e.g. single-handedly -> wardrobe) and the sentence would still be grammatically correct, that's a sign that the word is referenced as itself and should be written in quotes.
