If you haven’t experienced a motorcycle creeping up behind your back and unleashing a deafening roar, you don’t know what fear is. The anguish and distress that shocks your body immediately afterward makes you feel the same as you would when staring at certain death.

But no matter how many of our nerve cells bikers kill, they do this nonsense over and over and over and over again. Why? A couple of months ago, YouTube comedy channel Genuine Jerks answered this question. They released a video called ‘How motorcyclists think people react when they drive by…‘ and so far, it’s the best explanation to this mystical phenomenon.

YouTube comedy channel Genuine Jerks finally gave us an explanation of how motorcyclists think people react when they drive by

This is just one of many funny videos the gang has made. Genuine Jerks is a fast-paced, live and video sketch group with Brett Maline, Ryan Hughes, Emily Pendergast, Lucas Hill, Kelsi Roberts, Laura Keller, and Michael Strassner. They have already performed at UCB Sunset, UCB Franklin, Groundlings Mainstage, Comedy Central Stage, and others. Their videos have been featured on The Today Show, Good Morning America, and are mainstays on the front page of Funny or Die.

Genuine Jerks came up with the idea for the video when Brett and Lucas were working on their material and a loud motorcycle zoomed by. “We both started to sarcastically yell about how dope it was,” Brett Maline told Bored Panda. “Then we wrote the sketch. And to be honest, on paper, not funny. Honestly, I don’t know how the sketch got [so popular] but we are very grateful.”

None of the Genuine Jerks drive motorcycles, so they came together “through our equal distaste for the noise they make”. As you might’ve guessed, making this video was somewhat cathartic for us so it’s been dope to see motorcyclists get in the comments and admit they’re loud,” Brett explained. “The outpour of millions of Americans empathizing with us on motorcycle noise awareness has been nothing short of fulfilling.”

Of course, not every motorcycle owner is like this. And if you want to buy one, don’t let this video stop you. Even if you’re 45. In fact, some researchers think that there’s no such thing as a midlife crisis, and that falling apart and putting yourself back together again, possibly in a different way, is not something that is more likely to happen when you are between 45 and 55 than it is at any other age.

So if you want to spend the kids’ inheritance on a sporty motorbike, go right ahead. You have every right to enjoy what time you have left.

During the quarantine, Genuine Jerks released their newest conceptual pilot Hypocrite, that’s based on Brett’s experiences living with Klippel Feil syndrome, a rare form of severe scoliosis. “Also, every Tuesday night at 7 pm PST, you can catch us live on our channel hosting The Late Great Show, a talk show with special guests, live music, and genuinely jerky content.”
