Absolute Mad Lad Dad
Bored Panda reached out to u/RalphiesBoogers, a moderator at the ‘Mad Lads’ community, who claims that they’re the greatest mod that Reddit has ever known. (...Allegedly!) We had a good laugh at how they responded to everything.
Check out their hilarious and in-character (as well as genuinely informative and insightful) responses below about the subreddit and, here’s a small heads-up, they really are kings and queens of banter, no matter what situation they’re in. An absolute mad lad? You betcha (just without the irony)!

Tbh Would Pick Steve Irwin
Yeah definitely, if he had found out about the cancer sooner, somebody could have done something about it, he was such a good actor.
Load More Replies...You are extremely cultured my friend saving Stan lee and having ochaco as pfp
Load More Replies...I’m not too into most celebs but maybe Robin Williams? He died really tragically and shocked many fans. Would be nice for him to have a second chance. I like him but I’m not exactly a “fan” fan.
Robin williams was depressed his whole life. Then he got diagnosed with parkinson's and didn't want to live with it. He chose to die. Wouldn't be fair to bring him back.
Load More Replies...Don’t get me wrong it is sad that Steve Irwin is dead but I can think of far more better people to prevent the death of. I actually found Steve Irwin extremely annoying. I would pick Princess Diana.
Thank you! He was soooo annoying. But now he is dead so he´s a saint.
Load More Replies...stan lee was getting old... by now he'd start to suffer, i fear.
Load More Replies...If you broaden the definition of “celebrity”, a few pop into my head (I’d have more with a bit more time to think about it). No bad guys, just people I think really gave us something extraordinary, changed the world for the better, and would’ve gone on making it even better if they’d had more time. John and Bobby Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr, Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Ghandi, just to name a few who should’ve had more time to see their plans and/or causes all the way through. As for entertainment celebrities, I’d like to know what Marilyn Monroe knew that got her killed or driven to suicide. I wish Steve Irwin had not bumped into that stingray. I also wish John Belushi, John Candy, and Chris Farley had had more time to work at their craft. I would’ve loved to see more of Freddie Mercury’s talents and what other areas he would’ve branched out into as he matured—-same with Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and Kurt Cobain. And of course, John Lennon—-imagine if you can, it isn’t hard to do. Guess it’s hard to pick just one. I’d have to be in a large group who got together, made a list, and agreed each of us would be assigned one person from the list to pick—-so we could save them all. (And just thinking about them all is choking me up, so I’ll stop now.)
Marilyn Monroe. I know she would probably be dead by now, but at least she would die as an older woman rather than a young woman whose death is still speculated about.
true but i feel like he wouldn't be able to adapt to this world... as it was around 200 years ago
Load More Replies...Aaliyah. Left Eye. Naya Rivera. Melanie Thornton (La Bouche). Selena. Oh, just one.
Rumor is people have been preventing Keanu Reeve's death since the late 1500's
Either Steve Irwin or Anton Yelchin. Both too young and both horrible freak accidents.
Michael Jackson. He still was having so much talent to show. I grow up with him, sad my kids don't.
Hang on, I couldn't decide between Alan Rickman and Steve Irwin for a second if I were to choose, but then I thought of Cameron Boyce.... :'( <3<3<3 Too young. (I know there have been so many people who have died younger, but it says celeb <3)
Kobe Bryant and Gigi Bryant Micheal Jackson and George Floyd (Even tho he aint a celebrity)
Amy winehouse...for purely selfish reasons: i want more of her music. On a different note: we all know that you should not touch the timeline, because bad things will happen. So who went back and what did he do to speak covid??
Princess Diana so I can stop hearing about her every other day for no apparent reason
Nine Year Old Ref Goes Off
This Little Mad Lad's On A Mission
Meanwhile, moderator u/steveofftheinternet pointed out that the subreddit was "completely ruined" when PewDiePie, aka Felix Kjellberg, uploaded a video about it. "We got flooded with his meme-spewing preteen fan army who are incapable of understanding that 'madlad' is ironic." Mod u/N8theGr8 explained that "mad-laddery is when you do something incredibly mundane, such as making spaghetti, sweeping the hallway, or being a Bored Panda writer, and then acting like it's the craziest thing ever."
Moderator N8theGr8 said that the subreddit was started in response to an image of "a guy putting a pan or something on his head and everyone else being like whaaaaaaaaat." In their opinion, the world has enough mad lads as it is. "I don't know if I want to encourage too many madlads, since the last time we got too popular some impressionable kid put sugar on their already Frosted Flakes, and it was chaos. They sell this thing called Liquid Confidence at a lot of stores though, I recommend taking a shot every time Elon Musk embarrasses himself Twitter."

This is nothing. A guy in Serbia joined the Flat Earth Society Facebook group, got them to make him an admin and changed their name to Round Earth Society.
Meanwhile, when prodded about where the line between what's 'mad-laddish' and not lies, they decided to jokingly misinterpret the question. "Contrary to popular belief, it's not an actual physical line like the International Date Line or that line you dance on when line dancing. It's also not a picket line, as those individuals are fighting the bourgeois against the exploitation of labor under a system of capital are not to be dismissed as mere mad lads, but compatriots in the fight against our chains of oppression. It's also not rickrolling, since that joke is like 30 years old," they said, alluding to one of the main demands of the subreddit to not mention Rick Roll.
When asked to answer a few questions about their community and what it stands for, one of the r/madlads moderators, RalphiesBoogers (great name and The Simpsons reference, tbh) proved that banter is supreme and that you can’t switch it off before launching into how a lot of folks misinterpret the term ‘mad lad’ in the first place.

The mod, practically beaming with banter energy, agreed to talk to us on the condition that we keep mentioning that they’re the greatest moderator Reddit has ever known. Have we said that u/RalphiesBoogers is the greatest moderator Reddit has ever known? Well, they are!
“For the most part, we just try to manipulate the price of GME,” u/RalphiesBoogers, probably the best mod that Reddit has seen in its entire existence, jokingly told Bored Panda, referring to the GameStop stock rise (and fall). “The main point of this subreddit really is to manipulate the NYSE and various other currency markets. The majority of our posts are code for market movements. We decisively curate and control the information here in order to send clear market signals that our followers use as predictors. I understand your skepticism, but that's how it works.”

Just another piece of proof that you need to have a good sense of humor at all times, never take things written on the internet without a grain of salt, and that tongue-in-cheek sarcasm really can translate well through text, not just speech.
“The other mods will say what they're paid to say. Just to be clear though, everything I said is true,” they quipped.
Moderator RalphiesBoogers said that a lot of people have misconceptions about the term ‘mad lad.’ “It's about people who take something very mild and comment on social media as though it is not. However, most of the users here are like 12 so they think it's all about being actually wacky or being a first-world anarchist or something,” they explained that not everyone can sense the irony in some posts that are shared online.

“Truly, this misconception plagues the subreddit in ways that have cost the dow several hundred points this past week. r/madlads isn't about being mad. It's about taking way too much excitement in mildness or mundane things, and also driving Dogecoin to the moon,” the best, brightest, and most brilliant that Reddit has ever known and will ever see added, hyperbolizing just a tad.

What A Madman
It's... Amazing!
We were curious to find out how some people, who are shy, lack confidence, and are afraid to stand out from the crowd could develop (unironic) mad lad energy and the courage to do things that are out of the ordinary.
However, RalphiesBoogers, the best mod Reddit has ever known, thinks that it’s all the opposite and that the modern world is more skewed towards people yearning for attention.
Just Mad I Tell You
My bike was stolen last week and yesterday I saw it for sale on Craigslist. So I messaged the seller, met him at McDonald's and when I noticed it was 100% my bike I dumbly asked to take it for a ride. He said "Yeah just don't ride off." Which is exactly what I did. I stole my bike back.
Gotta Use The Backdoor
I think the no pre marital sex rule is stupid. Whilst sex is not the most important thing in a relationship, it still plays a vital role. You could marry someone and they could be terrible in bed. They could be selfish, rough, demanding, you could have different sexual preferences/fantasies etc but you are now stuck coz divorce is against the bible.

Mad Lass Advances Her Career
Why stop there, though? Should have done some ambiguous self promoting with examples of positive things you've seen the janitor doing.
“I see everyone, everywhere, screaming for attention and trying to stand out all the time endlessly, and careers being constantly pursued to become the next wacky social media star,” they said.
The best mod on Reddit, u/RalphiesBoogers, said that the term ‘mad lad’ was intended to be used ironically, but “subtlety is lost on the internet, like the value I lost in GME.”

I once went on holiday with a friend-we had to catch a connecting flight back in to Auckland and then down to Chch. When we landed on the first flight we were late and the airline was paging us. I was ahead of him on the steps and (helpfully) explained how he was deaf and disabled (he isn't) but didn't like people to know. The airline sent two hot stewardess down and helped him up the steps, more or less carried him to his seat, and kept asking loudly "Are YOU ALL RIGHT" . He sat down next to me and said "Wow they are friendly here aren't they". I creid with laughter, and told him-but joke was on me as they upgraded him to business and left me in economy. He let me know for years...
my school district makes us do these essays with stupid, corny prompts ("what does x mean to you?") and this year, it was "What does being brave mean to you?" and my english teacher, the only chill, likable english teacher I've ever had, said that we had to put at least 1 sentence on it, because they would be reading them, but they weren't a grade. I wrote "Bravery to me means writing one sentence on a writing exam." and that's as rebellious as I'm getting for a while.
