This ‘Humans Of New York’ Story Will Give You Chills

It’s hard to come up with a country without a dark period in its history. However, it’s often difficult to understand the struggles of people far far away you have no relation with. In an attempt to spread empathy, Humans of New York have expanded its reach outside the metropolis. Shedding light on the Rwandan genocide, the platform introduced one of its survivors.

The genocide took place in 1994, during the Rwandan Civil War that arose from the prolonged conflicts between the Hutu and Tutsi groups within the Rwandan population. In total, the Hutu-led government killed an estimated 500,000 to 1,000,000 Rwandans, about 70% of the Tutsi population. To give life to these numbers, to fully comprehend the sick nature of these atrocities, scroll down to read what a person who has experienced it first hand has to say about it.

People were shocked to learn about the atrocities on such a personal level

I'd say heartbreaking but it's such an understatement for what the lady went through. I hope she finds peace in life and live for the rest of her family who didn't get the chance to

I'm not sure I know very many who could have survived this not come out of it a basket case... much respect, admiration, sadness, and happiness for this woman.

Finally, a positive remark.

I understand the intention of this story is to create empathy and maybe power to overcome our own issues. But how does the title "Do You Think Life Is Hard? This Story Will Put Things Into Perspective" help? I can't wake up one day and say "Oh hey at least I haven't been raped guess life is good" and roll away from depression just like that. Others have pointed this out already, but be careful on putting the blame on others (or yourself) for depression when "others have it worse" :/

There are problems with the titles being thought up for this. It should just be here to open our eyes to this woman's suffering and the atrocities that went on in Rwanda. No comparisons need be made nor anyone feel that their situation doesn't matter, because that is what headings like these do.
