Remember before you make fun of someone’s foreign accent… they speak TWO languages or more, and they have the good manners to address you in your own language.
What was the Initial thing Navneet Alang said that made Sam Parker make that comment. That's what I want to know. This embarrassing moment is missing context. Nobody just says "Maybe it's just a language barrier" without some kind of conversation beforehand. It's actually possible what he said was sincere and wasn't intended to be condescending or racist. Anyone can take a half conversation and make it sound something it's not. Oh and before anyone attacks me, I'm not white. I'm just interested in facts. Not skewed forms of truth.
So many people born in America have terrible language and grammar skills. That senator should always vote for more funding for schools of he was truly concerned about these things. But obvously he is a self aggrandizing jerk who puts others down to try to feel better about himself.

I love this one! Something similar happened with me, but with a different language (Spanish). I help prospective Spanish learners on the web with Spanish here and there as a fun hobby in preparation for my MA this fall. On a social media post, someone wanted further context on a reggaeton song. I happen to be from the Caribbean, and those registries of Spanish are the ones I intend to specialize. I was explaining (in the most basic way possible) the context behind the word usage behind said song. The people replying to me (ALL OF THEM were either high schoolers or L2 learners whose proficiency wasn’t higher than B1) tried to counter explain to me why I was wrong. So, I had to get all academic about it and talk to them about the how and why those songs are sung and structured like that (with sources and all). While demonstrating my legitimacy helped a lot, some STILL kept asking “but that still doesn’t explain X or Y”. Those are always the loudest.
People that think and act like this deserve this outcome every time, but, alas, life isn't like that! He's said this and worse to a lot of people. The fact that he is/was a senator is pathetic!
Lots of young, white men are problematic as well. Rich, white men have an advantage in basically everything. 45 out of 46 Presidents should be the first clue. I found it a year later on someones desk on a different job. That person was alway mocking me for being 'just' an intern and treated like i was dumb. Started telling me about the article but that i wouldnt understand cause the sources used we too 'deep and scientific for me to understand'. Told her i wrote it. She called me a liar and said a university published it. I was a student there and yes i did write it.

My literature teacher for 4th grade never called on me to answer questions. I was confused because I was the most advanced reader in that class. I talked to her after class one day, asking why she never called on me. She said “Sorry kiddo, but I think you would just confuse the other kids with how you pronounce words.” This was because I had a lisp back then and pronounced every word that had double o’s or just one o with an r.
I used to work at an airport, manager for the company that handled the restaurants. One Saturday my assistant manager and myself were inventory counting a Caribou Coffee and this sill looking skinny white guy walks up. Plaid short only the top button fastened, wife beater, baggy jeans, the ball cap with the razor straight bill and a lot of bling. I looked at said in a low voice ‘Look at this Vanilla Ice wanna be MFer’. Then a guy comes RUNNING across the terminal and is shaking homeboy’s hand and gushing over him. It WAS Vanilla Ice, who had played a show the night before. He was actually really cool too.

Plaid short only the top button fastened, wife beater, baggy jeans, the ball cap with the razor straight bill and a lot of bling. I looked at said in a low voice ‘Look at this Vanilla Ice wanna be MFer’. Then a guy comes RUNNING across the terminal and is shaking homeboy’s hand and gushing over him. Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but my goodness I am so sick of hearing about covid arguments. We get it. People will never agree on something that shouldnt have anyone arguing in the first place and everyone wants to be the big dog on top and show somebody else up. Great. Cool. People suck, pets are life. Can we move on now?
My friend had a good one like this. They (my friend's pronoun) was arbitrarily labelled as a 'white male' at birth, and they was trying to go to an event once, and the organizer said at the entrance: 'Sorry, this is only for black women.'
