When you think about it, the internet is a democracy. Whether you're the President, an award-winning scientist, or just a spiteful troll, you can create a Twitter account and go from one thread to another, explaining to other users why they're stupid. However, if you're actually doing it, that's precisely what you need to keep in mind. It's just a matter of time before you run into someone who can call out your BS. And when that happens, you're going to end up on the subreddit r/DontYouKnowWhoIam. Like the name suggests, this online community is dedicated to those spicy moments when people were oblivious to who they were talking to, and has collected quite a lot of them since its inception in 2015. Here are some of the best ones.

Even though there's a line between self- and over-confidence, trusting in your judgment can help you become successful in life.

Both verbal and nonverbal communication can be extremely effective at garnering positive attention and influence in groups. According to one hypothesis (the presumption of calibration hypothesis), people generally assume others have the self-knowledge to know how confident they should be, and we also assume they will truthfully communicate this confidence to us (the so-called truth bias), unless extenuating circumstances suggest otherwise.

So whenever we see confidence, we tend to find it compelling, and we expect it to be justified.

Anyone else so sick of the vaccine argument? Should mention I'm not anti-vax. Have had covid twice myself. Edit: Was asked how I had it twice. First time I likely caught it in a post office. Only place I'd been for weeks as most of the country was shut. Second time my partner tested positive and then I did.

Interestingly, some research has reported that being overconfident while participating in a group activity did not damage the person’s reputation — individuals who trusted their task performance (but were later revealed to be worse at the task than they had claimed) did not suffer a severe drop in their social status in the group relative to someone who had been well-calibrated.

The researchers concluded that "the status benefits of overconfidence outweighed any possible status costs."

So extreme cases aside, being featured on r/DontYouKnowWhoIam might not be the worst thing that can happen to you.

And I always wonder why do these morons running these companies let HR write the job descriptions? I can see having them edit them, sure, they should know the legalistic restrictions and so forth. But instead of the person who knows what the job requires, having HR write ignorant, crazy job posts from scratch and then wonder why you can't get anyone to apply? Is everyone at these companies completely without any reasoning abilities whatsoever?

Wow! Always apply for jobs you want no matter what the requirements say. The people who write the job ads usually have no idea what that position actually does. I got turned down for a small raise by my supervisor, he said the owner said no. My stubborn ass went to the owner with a mini resume of my duties and experience to ask why. The owner was never actually approached and my supervisor apologized and gave me the tiny raise. Both men had a better respect for me after. The other lady in the department who was told I was basically her equal, not so much.

Do you really believe these companies have a Human Resources department? Fairly certain that HR is just some "department manager" the corporations have conned into assuming more work. Qualified? That would require "money".

HR being responsible for the hiring process of things they don't understand has led to so many companies not being able to find talent. I'm a drafter and once had an interview where I was asked "how close" I can tolerance. Did not want that job after that question. That same company required 5 years of experience SPECIFICALLY with AutoCAD 2018 - posted the job in 2019.

All this X amount of years experience in a particular trade is so restricting for willing employees. A few years ago, I was doing a proof reading course. I contacted a local company and enquired about work and was told I would have to have 20 years experience before they'd consider giving me a job. Thank goodness I earn more money than that in my current job.

Just as it requires mass unemployment, depressions, and the undemocratic polarization of wealth, capitalism depends on labor always being a buyer's market where workers desperately jump through meaningless hoops, vying for the privilege of supporting the system which oppresses them. ¶ To achieve this, it isn't enough to populate America's streets with dying, ruined people to serve as an example of what happens to those who can’t or won’t cooperate. The labor market must also be a Kafkaesque nightmare, a senseless torture prison designed to drive mad anyone who dares insist on reason. After all, a sufficient application of reason might bring the whole cruel edifice tumbling down. This is prevented by inculcating what is essentially a form of Stockholm Syndrome, where the abducted are made to identify with, love, and willingly serve their kidnappers. ¶ Obsessive focus on the symptoms, ironically enough, denies any possibility of the curing the disease.

I hate this c**p in IT in general. Every job listing is: must have experience in ThisParticularIDE and ThisRandomIndustrySpecificSoftware and ThatEmailSoftwareThatNotOneElseStillUses. No applicant ever has experience in all software combinations. You might have to give them time to learn it or (GASP) pay to have them trained on it.

In lot of cases the job in question is supposed to be entry level but they have a candidate in mind, but because they have just promoted someone from that job and they have to offer the job because of government regulations they make the requirements impossible.

I would have applied and lied on the resume saying that I did have 4 years experience, and during the interview, hopefully there's a panel, and say "I just wanted to be upfront and honest but I lied on my resume" "What do you mean you lied?" "Well, I said I had 4 years experience when I don't" Well, thank you for being honest but we're looking for someone with 4 years experience, but thanks for coming in" "Yea, I actually only have 1.5 years experience when I CREATED THE ENTIRE THING, you people aren't very smart are you? I'm the actual creator, you people are idiots" And I would have walked out.

I've been a professional bookkeeper for over 25 years and saw this kind of crap all the time. It's usually some small business person who thinks because they were able to start their own business, they have what it takes to RUN said business.
