40 Embarrassing Moments People Didn’t Know Who They Were Talking To And Made A Fool Of Themselves
When you think about it, the internet is a democracy. Whether you're the President, an award-winning scientist, or just a spiteful troll, you can create a Twitter account and go from one thread to another, explaining to other users why they're stupid. However, if you're actually doing it, that's precisely what you need to keep in mind. It's just a matter of time before you run into someone who can call out your BS. And when that happens, you're going to end up on the subreddit r/DontYouKnowWhoIam. Like the name suggests, this online community is dedicated to those spicy moments when people were oblivious to who they were talking to, and has collected quite a lot of them since its inception in 2015. Here are some of the best ones.

Underestimating A Multi Talented Model!
Even though there's a line between self- and over-confidence, trusting in your judgment can help you become successful in life.
Both verbal and nonverbal communication can be extremely effective at garnering positive attention and influence in groups. According to one hypothesis (the presumption of calibration hypothesis), people generally assume others have the self-knowledge to know how confident they should be, and we also assume they will truthfully communicate this confidence to us (the so-called truth bias), unless extenuating circumstances suggest otherwise.
So whenever we see confidence, we tend to find it compelling, and we expect it to be justified.

Anyone else so sick of the vaccine argument? Should mention I'm not anti-vax. Have had covid twice myself. Edit: Was asked how I had it twice. First time I likely caught it in a post office. Only place I'd been for weeks as most of the country was shut. Second time my partner tested positive and then I did.
Red Faces All Round
Interestingly, some research has reported that being overconfident while participating in a group activity did not damage the person’s reputation — individuals who trusted their task performance (but were later revealed to be worse at the task than they had claimed) did not suffer a severe drop in their social status in the group relative to someone who had been well-calibrated.
The researchers concluded that "the status benefits of overconfidence outweighed any possible status costs."
So extreme cases aside, being featured on r/DontYouKnowWhoIam might not be the worst thing that can happen to you.

He's Egyptian
Reply: "He can't be Egyptian because I did my research and the color of his skin isn't Egyptian."
He is, north aficans are from pale white to dark brown, but the black are sub-saharan (more south in africa) , also even by logic we are near Italy and spain which are white and we have the same climate as south europeans so as a north african i can tell you that african doesn't mean black
Load More Replies...I still don't get that issue, even if he wasn't the son of Egyptians. He's an actor, that's what they do. You know, "pretend" to be other people
It has a lot to do with blackface, and with hiring whites to play ethnics instead of hiring ethnic actors. Up there with the white boy Oscars.
Load More Replies...People seem to think that the people of every African nation are black. Not so much along the Mediterranean.
Especially US americans often think that all north african, middle eastern and south european/american people aren't white. Whilst in reality most are. The thing is, that racism against a different colour is easy to understand for them, but racism that's against another culture of the same colour isn't. It's easy to say "all whites are bad and all PoC a victims" but that's simply pathetically wrong.
Load More Replies...This is because social media types are obsessed with finding "racism" where none exists, or the current buzz-phrase of "cultural appropriation". He's not the first either, someone moaned about Cleopatra not looking dark-skinned and "Egyptian" enough until someone pointed out she was Greek!
But then there is silent racism that nobody seems to give an F about, such as racism against Indigenous Native American people. I have first hand knowledge of this because my daughter has spent her whole life thus far being subjected to kids racism towards her.
Load More Replies...I just watched a blue eyed Egyptian speak on a Jon Stewart show. I can testify, Egyptians have a variety of heritages. There were folks who looked Italian and folks who looked Subsaharan African, all Egyptian.
My algebra professor in college was ALSO Egyptian. His eyes were green-ish/light hazel.
Load More Replies...Africans that live in countries that surround the mediterranean are predominately not Blacks.
I have personal experience with this. My daughter is half Indigenous (Native American) Her father is full Cheyenne and Kiowa/Kickapoo (Federally enrolled Kiowa). She has been called every racist name possible starting in kindergarten. Especially the N word. When she tells kids she is Native American, they laugh and say no you're not because "indians" live in tipi's and wear beaded leather and feathers, or some kids have told her that "indians" were all killed hundreds of years ago, or that they are all drunks. She's had kids yell woo woo woo clapping their hand on their mouth, ask her if she smokes weed in her peace pipe, or calls her squaw, which is a derogatory name. She's also been called a "dot head" indian. When she was in first grade she walked out from school wearing a paper pilgrim hat. My heart sank. She said mommy I told my teacher that I'm Native American but she said only the boys were allowed be be the "indians". Blatant racism does exist for other ethnicities.
I could elaborate much more but i ran out of space on my post. Im new here so I didnt realize I can reply to my own post. My apologies. To continue my post above, that class day was spent with the "indian" boys wearing paper headdresses chasing the "pilgrim" girls around pretending to kill them. My daughter is now almost 16 and in high school, and I have spent 11 years (she went to pre-k before kindergarten) defending my daughter at the public school system, where none of the school officials have ever done a d@mn thing about the racist bullying. You don't realize how racist people are until someone you love has to deal with it every day of their life. My daughter is beautiful and smart and I'm so proud of her. She now suffers with depression, anxiety, and low self esteem due to the years of persistant racist bullying. I love her so much and will always defend her. ❤
Load More Replies...Typical Democrat SJW. You can't play a part if you are not that race! Or eat that food if your not from there! My fave are black people who say you can't wear dreads because it's culture appropriation. Yet will straighten their hair and dye it brown or red. Umm.... Hypocrisy is rampant.
What happens when American racial perceptions do not translate outside its boundaries.
So...what did they think Egyptians were supposed to look like? Looks Egyptian to me.
Wait ... Seriously? Someone did not know/realize that Rami Malek is Egyptian???
This is what happens when you try to be a Karen and your stupidity shows.
I've noticed a sad trend in some communities that insist on the complete ethnic/racial Africanization of Africa, but the issue with that is that there has been ethnic blending in the north/east parts of Africa for literally millennia, and that results in brown and white people being every bit as African as black people.
Also, thought the whole point of acting was pretending to be someone else. Stop worrying about skin color and pick the best actor for the role. Remember all the hoopla and comic book nerds freaking about Zendaya playing MJ? Sheeeet, girl played THE coolest MJ ever. Skin color shouldn’t matter. Talent should.
But Lin Manuel Miranda isn't white and he played so that was racist of Lin Manuel Miranda!
This happened to me once! I have a character from Spain and someone told me I was whitewashing him... He's my character... He wasn't even that white in the picture I drew! He's tan but not that dark..
We all come in many shades and we must stop taking others ethnicity simply because we are lighter or darker than others thought we should be
Watch Mr. Robot. Rami Malek is a GOD AMONG MEN. (So is Sam Esmail. Both Egyptian, btw.)
Regarding countries of the African Continent: Citizens are various melanin shades👨🏻👨🏼👨🏽👨🏾👨🏿
I think the point is that at that time Egyptians were darker in skin and resembled most other African countries. The Egyptian you see today is not how they would have looked. A simple way to understand it would be if you watched a movie set in the 19th century and the clothes were from the 21st century. You would call it out as being historically inaccurate.
Not true. The Nubian era were dark subsaharan african not other periods.
Load More Replies...OMG why does it always have to be about the color of one's skin...I DON'T GIVE A F@*K WHAT COLOR ANYONE IS especially when I'm trying to enjoy an amazingly beautiful actor bringing to life am amazing adventure. Can't we all just leave it at that&just enjoy this beautiful man. I DON'T CARE WHERE HE'S FROM I JUST KNOW he's simply delicious&mind blowingly talented. And yes I couldn't take my eyes off you in bohemian rhapsody cried at the unbelievable way you captured Freddy&his soul BRAVO!!! And I will watch anything with Remi in it 💋
I'm genuinely curious if the person offended by what they thought was a white person playing an Egyptian is also white. New generation anti racism... LMFAO gotta love their uniformed knee jerk reactions. "OMG he looks white"... Totally ignoring his very very not white name. BTW, I would drink Rami Malek's bathwater. Especially in Egyptian garb.
Save some for me please but make mine a double..yummy
Load More Replies...Why would it fn matter? People don't mind changing the race of a Caucasian character (instead of creating new characters), but if you put a Caucasian in a setting where people think it should only be one other race, they lose their fn minds. It's the same bigotry just from another angle. Stop the hate from EVERY side, not just one. And that includes race, gender, sexual orientation, etc etc.
OMG! Really?! How do you not know about him?! He's a great actor!! Rami and Freddy are from the same place. He's not white!! Lol
No they are not Rami Malek is Coptic Egyptian and Freddie Mercury real name Farrokh Balsara was born in Zanzibar to Parsi Indian parents. Parsi are of persian descent.
Load More Replies...so rami malek is playing a rich person, accordint to that thing around his neck
Funny thing is technically on most forms Egyptian are considered white lol! A fact my buddy Essy told me I didn't know.
He's good in no time to die and he played Fredy so well what a talent
There are white Egyptians, black ones and brown ones. Like America. Why do people not understand this?
HEY there were wight Egyptians my doughier is studying them don’t guge fu**k of😡
Some people still seem to think that in certain parts of the world (mostly the "less humane" parts), only one colour exists or should exist. "But hey, we're rich, so everyone comes to us and not to them"
He is Arabic, not of ancient Egyptian race who are black. Most modern day Egyptians are Arabic. It's like a white or black American playing a native before the arrival Europeans.
The Egyptians and all of the people in that region were black, very DARK black. But of course we are not taught that kind of thing in the USA. Well... wasn't taught that!
He's still Egyptian. Race and where you were born are two different things.

My favorite story about Queen Elizabeth - Once, when walking the grounds of Balmoral with her protection officer, Queen Elizabeth ran into some American tourists. It became clear they didn’t recognize her: “Have you ever met the queen?” they asked. “No,” she responded, and then pointed at her protection officer. “But he has.”
#40 happens to me a lot on Facebook when I share one of my articles.
My sweet mom was having her roof replaced on a brutally hot day. She had cold drinks in her frig for when the workers were on break. One was sitting in her kitchen and told her that he was working "off the books", and nothing was being reported for tax purposes. My literature teacher for 4th grade never called on me to answer questions. I was confused because I was the most advanced reader in that class. I talked to her after class one day, asking why she never called on me. She said “Sorry kiddo, but I think you would just confuse the other kids with how you pronounce words.” This was because I had a lisp back then and pronounced every word that had double o’s or just one o with an r.
