Like the name suggests, this online community is dedicated to those spicy moments when people were oblivious to who they were talking to, and has collected quite a lot of them since its inception in 2015. I was the Program Director of a successful child care center and had a really nice office. One day, we had the Fire Department visit the kids on Friends in Our Community Day, complete with the firefighters in their gear and, of course, their truck. While the classes were outside exploring the truck, the HR Director came over for a visit. I’m brown-skinned and was pretty young, and she was Caucasian, in her early sixties. While we were chatting in my office, standing at the window watching the kids, a firefighter came in and joined the chat, sat in the “executive” chair, and then asked “Mary” if it was ok if he sat in her chair as he spun around in it. Mary looked at him, looked at me, and laughed. I very casually told him that this was my office, but, sure, he could sit in my chair. He jumped up, apologized profusely, hugged me and turned redder than his fire truck. He said he would never judge a book by its cover again. 😉
Another condescending title is "little lady". I calmly tell them, "I am not little; I'm taller than YOU. Also, the 'lady' part is questionable once you hear me speak, you f*cktard, p*ss encrusted, sh*t stain. They don't call me little lady again, and they avoid eye contact.
It was actually a little fun to meet someone with this condescending attitude while I was practicing law--I'm a woman who at the time looked younger than I was, so it was always a pleasure to show a good old boy lawyer that I wasn't the ignorant innocent he thought I was.
Anybody calling a a grown-up woman a 'young lady' is clearly ready for retirement.

Ah people judging someone before getting all the facts. I've lived with this all my life. Despite having 20 years under my belt doing what I do, often people that don't know me can get pretty snarky. Not shaving for a week helped as I pass the 40 mark. Prior to that, it was pretty frustrating.
I look a quite a lot younger and at work i often get asked if im helping out my mom or dad. Im a chef for 10 years.

I talked to her after class one day, asking why she never called on me. I used to work at an airport, manager for the company that handled the restaurants. One Saturday my assistant manager and myself were inventory counting a Caribou Coffee and this sill looking skinny white guy walks up. Plaid short only the top button fastened, wife beater, baggy jeans, the ball cap with the razor straight bill and a lot of bling. I looked at said in a low voice ‘Look at this Vanilla Ice wanna be MFer’. Then a guy comes RUNNING across the terminal and is shaking homeboy’s hand and gushing over him. It WAS Vanilla Ice, who had played a show the night before. He was actually really cool too.
