40 Times People Were Stupid Enough To Do Something Inappropriate That Their Bosses Just Had To Fire Them
While in these uncertain times, many employees hold onto their workplaces tighter than ever, others are somewhat more relaxed. And if you ask me whether it’s possible to loosen up a little too much when it comes to your job, the answer is yes.
For many unknown, illogical and often plain dumb reasons, some employees have earned themselves a solid “you’re fired!” badge. In fact, there’s a whole corner of Reddit with a cheeky name “Bye, Bye Job” that’s dedicated to sharing “images or stories of people losing their job, a scholarship/admission, or another kind of opportunity due to their actions online or in person.”
Below we selected some of the most amusing, insane, and crazy examples that could easily compete in a sprint of losing your job the fastest way possible. Scroll down and after you’re done, be sure to check out our previous post with the funniest “you had one job” fails.

Lab Intern Demands To Work Maskless And Not Only Gets Fired, But Risks Her Entire Future Career
An Oldie But A Goodie
This Is A New One For Me
It’s fair to say that most of these career faux pas shared in this post are somewhat on the extreme side. From extremely rude messages to inappropriate comments shared out in public, these behaviors are the straight way to getting fired, and there’s little doubt about that. At least they don’t happen that often and when they do, they end up stirring things up quite a bit in forums and online threads.
But there are so many more less extreme and more standard ways to fail at work. From letting your team down to screwing things up on a deadline, even the best worker wasn’t born immune to failure. But for many devoted workers, such experiences may end up ruining their self-esteem and professional motivation. So how to lift yourself up when things went down the drain at work?

He actually helped her get a better internship after she apologized to him.
Load More Replies...I believe old Homer actually tried to help get her internship back. He's from poor folk, he understands making mistakes when you're young and stupid.
Julie I believe he didn’t want other nasa representatives to see that and have second thoughts about taking them in, but what do I know? I only read the original post lol
Load More Replies...She was obviously just really excited to work at NASA; there was really no reason to police her language like that.
I read the original post, I believe Naomi was still given a chance, andhomer said he only did it so other nasa representatives wouldn’t see it and have second thoughts. So I don’t think he was in the wrong to “police her language”.
Load More Replies...I think he helped her to get her internship reinstated, if this is the case then I hope she learnt some humility.
No, he had nothing to do with the internship. He did try to help her find something else in aerospace, but NASA would not have her, she'd been delivered a basic policy book for the internship, and violated policy with her seriously insulting behavior. Last I read she was going after her PhD. Hickam didn't get her terminated, but others alerted NASA to the exchange. A personal friend of hers posted on Reddit.
Load More Replies...I saw the uncensored tweet. Why would a woman say, "Suck my d___ and balls?" Anyway, she reached out and apologized and he worked with her to help her get another position. Also, he had nothing to do with her losing her internship. He didn't report her nor does he have hire and fire abilities at NASA.
her profile pic has a trans flag- maybe she hasn't transitioned yet?
Load More Replies...You can't have been THAT good of an intern if you didn't know Homer Hickam. They made a MOVIE about him
And a great movie it is, "October Sky", an anagram of "rocket boys".
Load More Replies...You shouldn’t loose your job solely because of profanity. You should be allowed to say it. But yes, the insults were bad.
Almost every major company has a policy that your online behavior can be cause for termination. She apparently needed to learn a lesson on that front.
Load More Replies...He commented because he was worried someone at NASA would see. He tried to get her reinstated and made sure they didn't blacklist her
Homer Hickman was portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal in the film, "October Sky." Fantastic film, well worth a watch!
People should not be allowed to fire people just for personal reasons.
Almost every major company has a policy that your online behavior can be cause for termination. Best she learn that lesson early.
Load More Replies...In all honesty I think Hickam is kind of patronizing in this post. The response he gets is bad as well, but sheesh let her be happy
I believe he was assisting Naomi, if other nasa representatives saw there behavior who knows what would’ve happened. Also he helped them keep the internship, I saw the original post.
Load More Replies...So happy I never really joined the social media movement. I like my privacy.
To be fair if this was her own personal Twitter page he can piss off with the language comment.. people are allowed to use the word f**k
Sure. But her second response was way over the line.
Load More Replies...Her response was crappy, but did he really need to comment on her language?? Doesn't he have better things to do?
She probably thinks that balloons would fly higer if you let the air out so they weigh less.
Some things I get that a company can fire you for putting on your social media. Like say a suggestive pic etc... but my grown ass can say f**k according to SCOTUS. Not saying let it fly like some drunken sailor, but damn.... she's excited about a huge personal accomplishment! I'd say the same thing!
I had really hoped this one was real because it’s hilarious but the more I look at it…🤔
Tbh, she can use whatever language she likes on Twitter. Who made this guy the language police?
National Space Council members doing the important work of ferreting out cursing by new interns and schooling them online
How does someone doing an internship at NASA not know who this man is?
There was a movie made about Homer Hickam, I think it’s called Red October
I havent seen it stated yet, but she was the target of a harassment campaign during this situation and reacted like she did bc she thought he was part of the campaign.
She lost her job as she and her friends hashtagged NASA in their tweets which brought the attention to NASA higher ups and caused fear of tarnishing their company credentials, etc.
Here are the consequences of your actions catching right up to you!
One giant leap for humankind and a kick in the spongy part for the idiot.
This happened in 2018 and has been posted here before. Why is BP rehashing old news like it is new.. In fact this is what Homer Hicman wrote on his personal blog in 2018 after she lost the internship. ""I learned she had lost her offer for an internship with NASA.This I had nothing to do with nor could I since I do not hire and fire at the agency or have any say on employment whatsoever. As it turned out, it was due to the NASA hashtag her friends used that called the agency's attention to it long after my comments were gone," Hickam wrote in a blog post Tuesday. Hickam also shared that he is "certain she deserves a position in the aerospace industry and I'm doing all I can to secure her one that will be better than she lost," and has "talked to the folks that had to do with her internship and made absolutely certain that there will be no black mark on her record."
"Shut the f**k up" is precisely what most people should learn to do for their own good. I often have to tell it to myself when I'm tempted to let out some stupid s**t I have in mind. Sometimes I don't make it and end up posting a comment.
Social media vetting should be a part of every application - just so companies are fully informed as to the character of their employees. This sort of post may be acceptable for most jobs, but....they deserve to know anyway.
It should not! Then every little stupid thing you've said since the dawn of social media, can be taken out of context, and used against you.
Load More Replies...I don't think he had the right to be policing her language on Twitter of all places. If some random person popped up on y thread and started telling me to watch my mouth I'd have something to say too. She got fired because he was butthurt.
Ignorant. She got fired because she used nasa hashtags that got their attention. He didn't take any actions himself. You know what they say about people who assume...
Load More Replies...No it's image control. NASA doesn't want people like that representing them. Most companies with a decent social media presence will take disciplinary actions against you if you tell people to "suck my d**k and balls" while dropping their company name like a badge of honor.

The Woman Who Laughed Has Been Fired
To find out, we spoke with Sarah Jones, a career and leadership coach with over 7 years’ experience as a top executive leadership and career coach and a 30-year career at board level. Sarah assured us that there’s no such thing as failure, unless you fail to learn from your experiences. The career coach reminded us that there will always be challenges at work. “I firmly believe that when we are sitting too comfortably, we don’t push our goals forward—we don’t really grow or develop. So I believe that failure is instrumental to our growth.”

He Seems Like A Nice Guy
Sarah recounted “starting work with a new manager with a very different, introvert style. I thought I’d never last with him, but in fact—he got me to slow down and become a little more focused on the details. Also, when I was made redundant, I didn’t take it personally—my attitude was ‘yes, a clear sign to become self-employed’—and I’ve never looked back. So look at what did I learn, what would I do differently—this isn’t about blame, but about personal reflection.”

Bye Bye Job In Four Acts
Maybe you are in the wrong job, wrong company and you’ve been putting off leaving so things are not going too well, Sarah argues. “Perhaps you made a mistake—own up, apologize if you need to, and clearly communicate what you will do differently next time. Reframe it in your mind, don’t tell yourself you are a failure—say to yourself, I’ve had a setback and I’m moving forward, I can learn from this—something more positive,” she said.

Even though failures at work are particularly painful and hard to heal from, they happen more often than we’d think. Nearly every client that Sarah talks to is going through a challenge and they always learn. “That’s part of my role—to help them to understand any repeating patterns or behaviors that may be holding them back,” she said.
“When we fail, and learn and acquire new skills, or grow from it, we develop a steeliness,” Sarah said and added that it’s “a resilience so sometimes the more challenges we have, the more we can overcome situations that would ‘floor’ some people.” According to her, many extremely successful people had several attempts at what they were trying to achieve before they got there.

The absolute irony of the right trying to claim victimhood all the while being the bully is astounding. What they need to understand is 1) your right to be a racist doesn't make you immune to the consequences of being a racist. People are smarter now. That crap that your skin color makes you somehow better doesn't fly anymore with most people 2) Your ill-advised choice to not get vaccinated makes you a threat to those around you. You are literally killing innocent people which makes you, at best, the equivalent of a nazi sympathizer. You don't get a pass just because you're ignorant. 3) That thing you think you are standing up for is something that hurts others. So when people say do what like so long as it doesn't hurt others, maybe you get it now. So please shut up

I will never understand people who post negative, hurtful or hateful things on social media and include their employers in their posts or tweets. Whatever consequences befall them is deserved. Do they not realize many employers actually have people who do nothing but watch and review the various platforms?
It's funny how these racist, anti-semitic, homophobic, etc. white people always turn to examples of those situations (segregation; the Holocaust; etc.) that they helped cause as reasons for their FrEEdUms being infringed upon with zero irony or self-awareness.
How about we start falling Cancel Culture what it really is: Consequences For Your Actions.
I disagree with many of these people's views and opinions. But I am really not sure that having offensive opinions is a legitimate reason for someone to lose their job. I mean, it's one thing if you refuse to follow company policies, like refusing to wear a mask at a job where everyone is required to do it. But in many of these cases it seems like the person was doing fine on the job, yet something they said or did outside of work got them fired? That doesn't seem right to me. In the US, we are supposed to have certain protected freedoms. Like free speech, free association and assembly, freedom of belief, etc. Even the freedom to be stupid, stubborn, offensive, or just plain wrong. As long as you are not doing bodily harm to others or destroying property should your unpopular viewpoint be a cause for job termination? Especially in the cases where people are not even expressing their views at or during work, in some unrelated venue or in private.
I can understand that. Freedom of Speech is a big right and should always be protected. And I understand that it seems off because it feels like people are being fired for something they didn't do at work. But there is other parties than the extreme view people. These folks don't work alone. So consider working with someone that finds whatever race/sexual orientation/etc that you happen to be inferior. Their views, whether loud and proud or quietly held, are harmful to at least some other people and, by nature, impede another's freedoms (including both freedom of and from speech). People don't treat that which they find to be inferior fairly. The extremist feels justified in oppression. So the business is acting to prevent that kind of behavior both towards its employees and its customers. And, TBH, the business can be sued for the behavior of these people. Truthfully it is likely for that reason, and fear of their reputation being damaged, is why these people get fired.

So in the future, when their resume's say that they were let go the exact months they were mandated to have vaccines, future employers will simply never call them back.
This is an honest question if the hpv vaccine can prevent cancer why isn't that mandated?
"Cancer" is a blanket term for several diseases caused by problematic cell growth, which can stem from anything from sunshine to scar tissue. The vaccine that you're talking about protects against a virus that can cause cancer, not cancer itself. Also, cancer isn't contagious.
Load More Replies...There is a difference between being anti-vax generally and being hesitant to get the covid19 vaccine. One point that is rarely addressed is that getting the Covid vaccine does not prevent one from getting Covid or transmitting it. I think labelling people who are hesitant as anti-vax or anti-science is not helpful in the least. This hesitancy is not helped by the fact that previous vaccination campaigns in recent history have resulted in disastrous, life-changing side effects for people. I can see both sides to the current debate and would encourage people to read even a little bit about the swine flu vaccine side effects (and lawsuits) from the 2009 swine flu vaccination prog. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2019/nov/20/swine-flu-vaccine-case-settled-but-hopes-for-legal-precedent-dashed
Key point to note is how quickly, within a few months, the supposed symptoms came on. The covid 19 vaccines have been an established programme for nearly a year with large number clinical trials proceeding that by many months. They used knowledge from 2002 & 2012 SARS & MERS research and built on that. Several billion people with the vaccine in them, healthy & well. It does prevent you getting covid by a significant percentage, but not 100% so also helps reduce transmission. Not a guarantee but don't dismiss it. The most significant benefit is that it does prevent hospitalisation & reduces risk of death. The risks from covid far outweigh the tiny risks from the vaccine. Some people are scared and so seek information to support their reasons not to have the vaccine. It is self defeating. Better to seek reasons why they should. Challenge your own views and gain more rounded knowledge.
