We know, we know, it’s super cool to hate stuff. But we feel like it takes a lot outta you, emotionally. Sometimes, it’s refreshing to focus on the positives in life. Taking a step back, and weighing things in your mind in a balanced way, can grant you a new perspective in life.

That’s where one viral r/AskReddit thread comes in. Redditors from all walks of life shared their opinions about which people and things are hated “for no reason.” Check out what they said below, and upvote the posts that you agree with, Pandas. If you’d like to share your opinions on what things really get a ton of undeserved criticism, drop by the comments and let us and all the other Pandas know.

Pssst, Pandas, when you’re done with this list, we’ve got another post about all the things that (according to some on the internet) don’t deserve hate right over here. Grab yourself a mug of tea or a cup of coffee and check it out.

Bored Panda got in touch with Mike Sington, an entertainment, pop culture, and lifestyle expert from LA, to get his thoughts about hate on social media, why negative news wins out over positivity, and why people enjoy seeing celebrities fall. He also shared his opinion about a star who'd fallen from grace but later rose back up. Scroll down for our full interview with Mike, Pandas!

Entertainment and pop culture expert Mike, aka Hollywood's Ultimate Insider, told Bored Panda that people enjoy hating individuals, things, and trends on social media because mob mentality is at play.

"People enjoy being part of a gang that can pile on, and hate things, on social media. Plus it can be done anonymously, from behind a screen, in the comfort of your home," he explained.

"It’s much harder for positive, wholesome news to stand out. The negative tends to upset us or anger us, which grabs our attention viscerally."

Entertainment expert Mike said that fans tend to look up to celebrities, and some even put them on a pedestal.

"So when they fall from grace and mess up, there’s almost a sense of relief. It can be enjoyable to some people because the celebrity becomes more relatable. People realize things can go wrong in a celebrity’s life, so they’re really not that different from myself," the expert said.

In Mike's opinion, probably the best example of a celebrity who fell from grace but was later vindicated is Robert Downey Jr.

Oh, it’s definitely fun to grumble about something or other, and spend a good minute fuming about the state of the world and that darn [insert least favorite public figure and/or celebrity]. Most of us enjoy letting off a bit of steam and complaining about this and that. It’s the national pastime in many a country.

However, holding on to all of that hate, constantly living with so much anger, is really an awful way to treat your body and mind. Not to mention that you might make your friends and loved ones reconsider spending time in your company if all you do is moan about everything. There’s a golden balance to be found between being a serial Hater-of-all-Things and someone who’s so happy-go-lucky that they close their eyes to legitimate flaws in people, trends, and things.

30 Things That Are Pretty Much Universally Hated By Most People For No Good Reason Guys liking “feminine” things. I grew up in Vietnam and lived there until the age of 15. I’m a guy who played dolls and house with my elder sister (who is 6 years my senior) when I was 5-6 and subsequently received so much flak and jeering from fellow elementary classmates (both boys & girls) as well as homeroom teachers after I accidentally blurted out about my “abnormal” playing activities to the world (or my small world).

Luckily, my parents just let me be.
My dad later told me to not reveal my interests to anyone whom I do not know well out of concern that I might be bullied. He personally bought me a Sailor Moon action figure.

Professor Suzanne Degges-White, from Northern Illinois University, recently explained to Bored Panda why we’re drawn more to the negative than the positive in the news. The licensed counselor also shared exactly how too much anger can harm us in a very real way.

“Constant anger can lead to metabolic diseases, cardiovascular problems, and digestive issues. For some people, health concerns are the reason that they may learn to let go of anger,” the professor warned.

“While being angry can lead to social change and begin to topple barriers and other aspects of injustice, we also know that anger isn't going to be the best choice to build alliances or convince others of the need for change. Finding common ground is essential in making true, collaborative change. This requires us to let go of anger, whether that is finding a way to sublimate it or overcome it, or just put it aside for the time being,” she said.

As for why we enjoy hearing negative things more than wholesome stories, well, we’re hardwired that way.

“When it comes to hearing information about the darker aspects of humanity, our brains experience greater stimulation when we hear stories of depravity than of kindness. It also has a ‘feel-good aspect’ for some folks as it normalizes and minimizes their own dark aspects or negative traits,” the professor explained to Bored Panda.

“Whether it's greed, anger, promiscuity, and so on, when we hear just how bad someone else has been, it can make us feel better about our own tendencies towards the dark side traits. It also lets us imagine vicariously what it would be like to be ‘that bad. It's kind of like watching all the true crime shows—we enjoy being scared, we enjoy seeing into the minds of people doing things we never would, and it's exciting and novel to see just how far people can go in terms of their dark sides.”

I think the problem is; new music hasn't been sorted through yet, because, well, it's new. So, yeah, sure, there's lots of bad stuff. But there's also tons of good stuff too. The stuff that's older, the junk doesn't tend to get played anymore. So, it's usually all the best stuff of that decade. I think there's also a nostalgia factor as well.

It goes both ways. My 18 year old likes the music we listen to (a lot of 80s stuff along with current music) but her school friends always "hated" anything that was older than last year because it was old. I've never understood only liking music when it's on trend (mind you, my parents refused to allow anything other than pre-19thC classical to be played in the house when I was growing up so any form of pop music was foreign to me for a long time).

Most of us click with music we get into in our teens. That means that no matter what we think of it, teens today are forming their identities, tastes, and even ambitions around the music they're hearing now, just like we did. And that is awesome and beautiful. There is always amazing music to discover, and each generation reflects the pop culture of the time in unique ways. Celebrate it.

This is another one that is far too generalized. The music industry has completely changed over the last few decades and become increasingly over saturated. For example! 60,000 songs are added to Spotify, daily!! Millions of songs are released each year - this was not the case even 30 years ago.

Meh, I gotta disagree with this one to an extent. I have eclectic musical tastes and can have trouble finding stuff that I like. But I always liked deep-diving into a generation's music to find unique stuff that I like. I've done it with music from before and after my generation. But the current trend of new popular music is just really ... bad. I can't find anything good when I go digging. It all sounds exactly the same. I feel bad for kids growing up with this music. Kids are always going to love the music that was popular when they were growing up. And some generations of kids will get stuck with worse music while some get better music. But music was such a big part of my teens and helped shape me into who I am. The thought of having to grow up with today's bland music is just terribly depressing.

I'm in a musician jokes group on Facebook and the average age there is 55 to 65 years old. I can't count the times when members of the group made fun of modern music like Rap or Techno, most of the times joking it isn't even music. I find it rather cringey and narrow-minded and also ironic, considering the music they like was despised by parents in the 60s and 70s. They turned into the same bourgeois' they once rebelled against. I'm 51 and listen to tons of modern/new music, but I stay away from charts and radio music.

I know they like it, but I went into a store recently and they had it blasting on one of the speaker displays and I turned it off so I could speak to some people my own age nearby....when I turned my back, one of the kids turned it back on... It's embarrassing to realize that when you get older and notice certain pitches of certain sounds actually hurt your ears and that's one of them.... but the other thing was I'm thinking " guys, you've got older people in here, if you want to sell these things put on something a little more appropriate...it's called marketing to your customer base "..

Worth noting, the reason we feel our music was better was all the hormones and newness of the experiences ruching through us. It takes a lot more to get that rush as you get older so when you hear new music the it doesn’t have nearly the same impact on you and of course you like it’s the music that is worse, not your biology and experience that has changed.

No. The music industry has changed a lot. Talent and ability used to be important, today autotune and marketing make the new "stars", only to be discarded for the next hype one or two years later. There are of course exceptions to this, but they are rare compared to all that mainstream BS that sounds so standardized that you can't even hear any differences between singers anymore.

There are some pretty good new artists releasing music if you have a bit of patience to find it. I think youtube is the best (place) because of the recommendations based on what you`re still watching/listening to are rather spot on. That being said, I have to say, while there is some good new music out there, 90% of it(at least to me) just sounds absolutely the same and not even in some throwback way. I wish people would produce more music like the 00s soul and hip-hop cos honestly, most is all noise to me.

We like the music of the time we grew up. We don't move on much. Newer music is always different - not better, not worse. It's SUPPOSED to be like this..

I love my 80s rock, but in the UK, we have some amazing new bands. Check out Apriori, Those Damn Crows, These Wicked Rivers and Stone Broken to name a few. Also, go to the Waterloo in Blackpool, amazing venue!

because they are only ever hearing promoted, industry pop. Every gens mainstream sucks. Until it gets old then nostalgia magically make it wonderful.

There's a lot of new music I love, and a lot of old music I hate. But no music will ever top Queen, in my book!

More of the music in my collection from the years I was in high school--by about 10 to 1--is stuff from that era I discovered a decade or more later. I look back at most of what I actually listened to back then and wonder what the hell we were all thinking...

You can't keep listening to the same music 10, 20, 30 years and expect to get anything out of it. So much music has been made and is being made right now. Every possible type of music too. The only thing I dislike; the lazy cover song. "It sounds like the original!" Why bother if you won't change a single note or put a little emotion into it?

80% of new music is c**p, but so was 80% of 20-teens, 20-aughts, 90's, 80's, 70's, 60's, etc etc. Basically 80% of EVERYTHING is c**p. The 20% ends up timeless. I'm 60 and enjoy something from almost every genre from classical to K-pop.

I have a theory about why "music these days sucks". One day, I was driving and there was a lot of road noise which meant that I couldn't clearly hear the radio. I thought the song playing was just awful, until my brain recognized part of it and I was able to start filling in the gaps. I realized "Oh wait, I like this song." I think as people get older, there aren't able to hear the song as clearly and while they are able to fill in the blanks with older, more familiar songs, that's not possible with new ones leaving those to be labeled "just noise".

There's tons of great music out there, you just have to go looking for it. Turn off your radio and go to a record store. Go to Bandcamp. Read blogs and magazines. It's there.

I love finding new music. Spotify has actually been pretty awesome in suggesting new bands based on what I listen to. How Mississippi Bones isn't world famous yet I will never understand.

Even my daughter says current "bands" and music are bunk. I raised her on '70s rock, classical and big band.

Unpopular opinion, but I prefer modern / alternative rock over classic rock with no hesitation. I appreciate classic rockers as musicians and for what they did for the genre though, I just vibe much better with modern rock.

Hmm...dont know if this is true. I didnt even like the music that was popular when I grew up with. I got a friend in same age, he is following the latest music and game and tech and stuff. So i think its individual how people sees this.

I keep up with the new stuff right up my ally. Its not that what plays in radio but i stumble over a lot new bands. And i mean lately on the market bands and i am luckily not stuck in 90s (nothing wrong with that tbh)... But i still like some of the songs.

The problem is not hating new music. The problem is that much of the new music is bland, sounds all the same, too much autotune and too many artist rely on near pornography or shock tactics to make news rather than having a good stage presence or personality. The charts now lack a real diversity of music compared to the previous decades.

30 Things That Are Pretty Much Universally Hated By Most People For No Good Reason Chris Pratt. I'll never understand why Twitter progressives hate him so much. "He's part of a homophobic church" they say. But you know who else is? AOC and Joe Biden. "He didn't endorse Biden so he must be a Trump supporter." I can't understand how anyone could possibly think this makes sense when he literally donated money to Obama in 2012.

I think for this one it's more like a 'don't use it in a professional setting if you want to be taken seriously'. This ranges from inter-office memos to billboards.
