30 Things That Are Pretty Much Universally Hated By Most People For No Good Reason
We know, we know, it’s super cool to hate stuff. But we feel like it takes a lot outta you, emotionally. Sometimes, it’s refreshing to focus on the positives in life. Taking a step back, and weighing things in your mind in a balanced way, can grant you a new perspective in life.
That’s where one viral r/AskReddit thread comes in. Redditors from all walks of life shared their opinions about which people and things are hated “for no reason.” Check out what they said below, and upvote the posts that you agree with, Pandas. If you’d like to share your opinions on what things really get a ton of undeserved criticism, drop by the comments and let us and all the other Pandas know.
Pssst, Pandas, when you’re done with this list, we’ve got another post about all the things that (according to some on the internet) don’t deserve hate right over here. Grab yourself a mug of tea or a cup of coffee and check it out.
Bored Panda got in touch with Mike Sington, an entertainment, pop culture, and lifestyle expert from LA, to get his thoughts about hate on social media, why negative news wins out over positivity, and why people enjoy seeing celebrities fall. He also shared his opinion about a star who'd fallen from grace but later rose back up. Scroll down for our full interview with Mike, Pandas!

Black cats. Superstition isnt a reason to hate them. They are so frikin cute like the others
BLACK CATS ARE THE BEST!! They are cute, and cuddly and sweet and I'm pretty sure they don't even know what color fur they have! They are just cats. ♥
Entertainment and pop culture expert Mike, aka Hollywood's Ultimate Insider, told Bored Panda that people enjoy hating individuals, things, and trends on social media because mob mentality is at play.
"People enjoy being part of a gang that can pile on, and hate things, on social media. Plus it can be done anonymously, from behind a screen, in the comfort of your home," he explained.
“Basic” women. Let women like things even if they are commonly liked and mainstream. It’s not hurting anybody that a large group of women enjoy pumpkin spice lattes or watch reality TV or enjoy taking a trip to target. It makes them happy, so why should it annoy so many other people?
Because those people doing the complaining desperately want to be special.
Building lego sets according to the instructions. People would always s**t on me for "not using my imagination" and "ruining what the sets could be.' M**********r I paid $50 for a spaceship, so let me build my goddamn spaceship!
If it was meant that you only use your imagination then they wouldn't include instructions. The main reason to buy themed packs is to build what it depicts, otherwise just buy generic (booster?) packs.
"It’s much harder for positive, wholesome news to stand out. The negative tends to upset us or anger us, which grabs our attention viscerally."
Entertainment expert Mike said that fans tend to look up to celebrities, and some even put them on a pedestal.
"So when they fall from grace and mess up, there’s almost a sense of relief. It can be enjoyable to some people because the celebrity becomes more relatable. People realize things can go wrong in a celebrity’s life, so they’re really not that different from myself," the expert said.
Wile E. Coyote. Personally I hope he blows the Road Runner to pieces.
Same! Also I want Tom to catch Jerry and make him suffer as much as he has
Immigrants. One of the arguments I’ve heard, “they are taking our jobs!” I came to your country after leaving my family behind, paying thrice the tuition fees for the same education, paying health insurance which is free to you, and at a disadvantage generally. Still you can’t reach the level of skill required, you’re still mad immigrants are taking your job?
It’s like immigrants work twice as hard to be recognised as just as mediocre as you
Remember, no immigrant has ever "taken" anyone's job. It was the boss who hired an immigrant they could likely pay less. I'm sure they're delighted that you're blaming the immigrant, and not them.
Feminist. Have never met one who did anything remotely annoying. Yet the internet tells me they are everywhere pushing crazy things. I keep seeing them compared to Nazis, incels and other extremists groups. The only examples I ever see are strawman Twitter posts or hypotheticals.
Like in everything there are a few crazy ones out there, and like in everything the f*****g dumbest ones are also the loudest, personaly i'm all in favor of iqual rights for both genders.
In Mike's opinion, probably the best example of a celebrity who fell from grace but was later vindicated is Robert Downey Jr.
"He had crashed and burned, and his career hit rock bottom," the entertainment expert said. "Everyone thought it was completely over for him, but he completely turned his life around and reached extraordinary professional success, reaching the peaks of Hollywood stardom."
“Boomers.” The stereotype that they’re all doing well and are entitled snots is so untrue. The stereotype exists because privileged snots make the most noise. Plenty are on fixed incomes barely able to feed themselves. Watch Nomadland.
Android phones. Does Apple pay y'all to be this annoying?
I use both iPhone (work) and Huawei (personal), and I honestly think the experience with android phone is far superior to the iPhone
I've used both - far prefer Android. Don't like the company ethics or attitude of Apple either - making things deliberately non-compatible and as for the cost of the licensing if you want to work on software with them!! OUCH! My brother worked for one of the UK's largest technology companies and worked closely with Apple on projects and hates them. Refuses to ever do it again.
Load More Replies...I seriously don't understand this. I love my iPhone and it works wonderfully for me, but I don't out people down for using Android. Why would I care? Use what works best for you. I have one iPhone and two androids on my phone plan now, why do people care about this?
My experience has always been the opposite. Android users only speak up about it when iPhone users start to gloat. Frankly I don't care which anyone uses, but i do hate apple as a company. Imo android is superior solely for the fact they don't force a new charger on you every year
My experience has been whenever someone brings up apple and android I just walk away.
Load More Replies...Apple fans are annoying worldwide. I have a few Apple products and enjoy them, but good grief, a lot of the Apple fanbase is awful.
Same could be said for the android fanbase. I see so much apple bashing for no good reason online. Even when it isn’t even always part of the issue. Once saw a video about a phone in which they were showcasing mostly the battery and camera of the phone. And people just had to drag apple through the mud in the comments even though it wasn’t an iphone.
Load More Replies...I have an Android and the wife has an iPhone, and the only difference as far as I can tell is that I get superior battery life.
If you want to go beyond "normal user things" you'll have the advantage too. Apple does not like people messing with their OS but you can break your system as much as you want on your andriod.
Load More Replies...iPhoneys: I'm a creative individual and will only use apple products like every single other person in this Starbucks.
Sounds like you've got some prejudice there yourself. - Android user here
Load More Replies...Anyone with an ounce of tech experience knows Android is the far superior choice. Gotta hand it to Steve Jobs though. He knew how to market a sh*tty product.
Thankfully in Europe huge majority of people prefer Android - often those models which are same price as iPhone, but where I live those who have iPhone are usually seen as someone who paid just to show logo to show others how much they paid for it.
Not anymore :) especially in bigger cities. I don't think the bickering is also what it used to be like. Most people just don't care. Use whatever you like
Load More Replies...My iPod nano from like 15 years ago still works 🙃 for music sure apple's fine (all the other mp3 players broke in like a week in my experience) but everything else Android is the more comfortable choice imo
been with Iphone for Years, just got the Galaxy Fold 3 and im never going back!!! EVER!
I can honestly say I’ve never experienced this. The other way around more often than not. I have both (Apple personal, Android work) and they both have their merits, both are great. I prefer the Apple because I find it more straight forward but that is because I’m accustomed to it. I hated the Nokia that ran the Windows OS. Absolutely hated it.
The other way around? Really? You have met Android users as fanatical about...Android..as the Apple folks? The Apple users who stand outside for literal days when a new model is released, and pay over $1k for it? Who make full-on memes about how inferior others phones are? That is certainly a new one for me.
Load More Replies...What does anyone give a flying f##ck as to what kind of phone another person uses? I prefer Android to the point I was offered a brand new free iphone at one point and I turned it down. My husband prefers his iphone, but he seems to have a lot more issues with his phone than I've ever had with my Samsung phones. To each their own.
Love my droid, there's not much iPhone can do that droid can't, plus my the battery on all my droids was/is long lasting. I will never have an iPhone.
I used an iPhone for a few months, but all my other phones have been androids. I remember it to be annoying bc Apple have all these 'only for apple' things. Messages? Nope, iMessages. Music? Nope, i-tunes, buy everything again. Also, why spending lots of money for a iPhone when androids work just fine and are a lot cheaper?
Apple has always been like this. I started programing computers in the late 1970s. Learned on an Apple 2. Did we learn BASIC? No. We learned Applesoft BASIC.
Load More Replies...iPhones are HUMONGOUSLY EXPENSIVE in Brazil. Basically it became a dumb thing to have since it costs sometimes, tenfold the minimum wage. I know, it's not a comparison because several reasons, but a thousand bucks (in Reais) is a third of my income and I'm almost lacking food in the end of the month, an "cheap" iPhone SE costs R$4300,00 - I think this could be a better comparison
I've used both, and I remain an Apple fan. Android is ok, but they do need to do a better job with system updates. their devices. had a 6SPlus that still worked over 7 years and Apple still provided updates for it.
I have had both Android and Apple phones. Since I am a musician I have gone completely to Apple because their music apps are superior. Plus my Android wasn't taking voice mails for days until it gave them all to me at once. Otherwise, I really don't like Apple, but for me it the best system. I have had my iPhone for almost 7 years now, but I have a new iPad pro, mostly to read and make music with.
Change that judging anyone over their phone choice with this pathetic rivalry. The phone you choose is your personal choice, not a competition. A colleague gave me grief for using a MacBook for my animation. Get over yourselves.
this reminds me of the boring apple vs windows debates in the 1990s. the two systems are almost identical and both unix-based. The main debate is which evil monopoly you want to support... google or apple. The fact is they're both part of the PRISM programme and are both spying on you.
I have an iPhone. I had several Android phones (even in-between iphones) and the reason I settled for apple was simple - no bloatware, EXTREMELY easy to clone your old phone to new one, great cloud support (including backups) and consistency of UI in all iphones. If someone asks me what phone should they buy, i’ll recommend an iPhone because it’s hassle-free. There always be huge disadvantages like closed ecosystem and unability to develop apps without mac (which I don’t have), but I found out these are not important enough to consider buying android again. I miss few android apps though.
Interesting, I've found changing between phones EXTREMELY easy with Android!
Load More Replies...I use an iphone and love it. I prefer iphones because of the security in it but I know androids are really good aswell. There are some things I prefer in android phones and I don’t get the hate. Even though I only had one huawei and it was cheap and broke immediately. But that doesn’t mean they are all bad
What I did observe: Apple has a huge fan base in the US, so there are generally more iPhone, while Europe is more Android focused. Pro point for Android (I only ever used Androids): you can get quite cheap phone and don't have to pay like 1k €/$ Pro Apple (I was gifted an ipad 6 years ago from my former employer): there are still system updates available. something Android wouldn't bother after a few years. at the end it doesn't really matter which one you use as long as you are happy with it
I've had Androids for yeeeeeears and liked to hate on Apple just as much as others on Internet Explorer. But then my then bf had to buy an Iphone (programmer for testing) and I started to see what the hype was about. After years I switched to Apple and I am never going back. All my Android devices got messed up after a year-year and a half. Then it was just pain to stretch it out to two years and buy a new one. I've had my Apple products for 5+ years. My tablet and notebook work as completely new (they are around 7-10 years old) and never have been reinstalled. I change my phones after 5 years just because I like the new technology :) Also, in my experience where I live, most Apple users don't care about Android users but a lot of Android users are avid and loud haters of Apple products/users. So, it goes both ways I guess
Android is great. I will support open source software over proprietary any day.
I think that's more of an American perspective. In Europe it is completely normal to use Android phones.
I think both groups are equally annoying. I don’t run around trying to claim Apple or android is superior. I have my choice and I use it. I don’t tell anyone they should get it. But the amount of times I’ve had people tell me or others how their chosen device is the superior one is ridiculous. I hate to say it, it’s typically android users trying to boast the superiority of their android to iPhone to people and I love watching their biggest line “it’s fully customizable so I can customize things Apple can’t” and I ask what of those customizable features they have actually customized and they always reply (unless someone who is actually in the tech industry) “I have the option of I want to”. *eye roll* unless ur asked what ur preference is and why, STFU as no one cares that u think ur phone choice is superior
I also had an iphone as my work phone and always have android for personal phone. I find android to be so much better than iphone. In fact, I do not like any Apple products so there you go
Well, I have an android and it's the other way around. Sorry I don't have as many good features as you, but a phones a phone, just let me use it and not be pressured into wanting an iPhone
I have nothing against Android phones, it is usually the users that annoy the hell out of me. I'll make some comment about facetiming or Siri or something and then I will get a five minute lecture of how Android's are far superior. I always feel like that old joke is true, how do you know if someone is an Android user? Don't worry they'll tell you.
I'm sorry, but the idea of an old joke about smartphones is hilarious to me. I remember the first time I saw someone walking down the sidewalk talking on a cellphone. It was almost unbelievable to me.
Load More Replies...I use Androids simply because they're more common (and far cheaper than iPhones) in my country. I never had any problems with them. Personally I prefer to spend less on electronics and as long as they're still able to do what I want them to do I don't care which brand/system they are.
I use both apple products and android phone, why so many gadgets Apple? I just need one charging cord for my phone or computer but with Apple it's like how many cords does it take for the device to work?
My iPhone wants to squeeze into every corner of my life, they are so intrusive, I just want to text, google maps, check the bus schedule, and YouTube videos when a song is in my head.
The irony here is astronomical because absolutely NO ONE fanboys as hard as an Android user. I don't even think about my iPhone. I don't pin my personality to it.
Interesting... I hate Iphone more, and I have reasons: Iphone users tend to think they are some kind of elite, just because of their phone cost double than mine, even tho they lack of useful functions. Androids have much more new functions, and works better, for cheaper price
I hate this whole "android vs apple" thing. It's so stupid. Like why does it matter what kind of phone other people use?! I've had experience with both and I personally do prefer apple. That doesn't mean I'm gonna go poop on people for not liking what I like. Use whatever works best for you!
I have & will never own an Apple product. The fact they admitted to lowering performance & service on old phones a new one debuts infuriates me.....and makes me question the loyal cultists.
Apple sucks, it's for dummy users and people that like to be locked up technologically.
One suits some people. The other suits others. It's awesome that there is a choice.
I can't stand apple products. I've had to use them at work a few times, and I just hate the way they function. I can't understand why anyone would choose to use them.
Lol, there will always be a debate over things that don't matter by people who don't matter
What is it with Apple apps that can't just do the job without a song and dance routine? The annoying 'swirl-down' and boop noise when you close an app on a Mac? The annoying noises to tell you a text has been sent? It's like Apple fans have to be entertained all the frickin time. Apple devices are just annoying for me. But you do you. I love my Windows, Linux and Android, they treat me like the adult I am.
Huh? Obviously Android is much better. Apple phones are way overpriced and made to break easily. They're nothing but a status symbol. If you're into throwing money away, sure, get an Iphone.
Most of people i know uses android, Apple users mostly dont talk, unless provoked: then the crusade begins. :D
Android is superior to apple, Apple just has better marketing and has convinced people they are better when ant comparison of flagship phones show the android ones to be superior.
The only good thing about an iPhone is the camera, but Samsung is pretty much on the level now. Droid will always be superior to Apple in my opinion. Plus they’re a lot cheaper. FYI Apple's “new technology” they always make a big deal about has been on droids for years. Look it up
I hated iTunes when I had it so I never wanted to even try another Apple product since iTunes was horrible
Personally I just love my Google Pixel 4XL because of how nice the screen and camera is. I do not care at all about the operating system.
I've had an iPhone phone since this year and I miss my old android phone(stopped working). I get confused what is exactly being taken out as it gets grouped up as an Apple expense
Strange, I'm content with my cheap android phone that mostly does everything an apple product could do for less. Plus, it has a headphone jack!
My last upgrade I had to switch to an apple because it was $500 cheaper. It has been ten months and I still curse myself every day.
I am one of the few Android user who doesn't hate iPhones. But that may be because I never had an iPhone.
I have never considered Android phones as annoying so maybe the problem is not in the phone..
Oh, it’s definitely fun to grumble about something or other, and spend a good minute fuming about the state of the world and that darn [insert least favorite public figure and/or celebrity]. Most of us enjoy letting off a bit of steam and complaining about this and that. It’s the national pastime in many a country.
However, holding on to all of that hate, constantly living with so much anger, is really an awful way to treat your body and mind. Not to mention that you might make your friends and loved ones reconsider spending time in your company if all you do is moan about everything. There’s a golden balance to be found between being a serial Hater-of-all-Things and someone who’s so happy-go-lucky that they close their eyes to legitimate flaws in people, trends, and things.
cosplay. it’s just makeup? and acting? literally everyone does it on halloween but once you put a name to it it’s “weird”? fr it’s just an art form sure some people can be cringey but the actual art itself isn’t
Furries are the same thing, but folks love to pick on them. I always say "it's just like cosplay - for FUN". (Obligatory not a furry, but tested the waters when I was young & am an artist, so I know quite a few).
Guys liking “feminine” things. I grew up in Vietnam and lived there until the age of 15. I’m a guy who played dolls and house with my elder sister (who is 6 years my senior) when I was 5-6 and subsequently received so much flak and jeering from fellow elementary classmates (both boys & girls) as well as homeroom teachers after I accidentally blurted out about my “abnormal” playing activities to the world (or my small world).
Luckily, my parents just let me be.
My dad later told me to not reveal my interests to anyone whom I do not know well out of concern that I might be bullied. He personally bought me a Sailor Moon action figure.
Why are girls "allowed" to play with "boys" toys but boys can't play with girls' toys?
Owning a plushie as a an adult. Maybe not as hated for women, but for guys it's so toxic. My penguin plush is the key pillar of my emotional support, and that s**t is scarce enough as it is.
Professor Suzanne Degges-White, from Northern Illinois University, recently explained to Bored Panda why we’re drawn more to the negative than the positive in the news. The licensed counselor also shared exactly how too much anger can harm us in a very real way.
“Constant anger can lead to metabolic diseases, cardiovascular problems, and digestive issues. For some people, health concerns are the reason that they may learn to let go of anger,” the professor warned.
“While being angry can lead to social change and begin to topple barriers and other aspects of injustice, we also know that anger isn't going to be the best choice to build alliances or convince others of the need for change. Finding common ground is essential in making true, collaborative change. This requires us to let go of anger, whether that is finding a way to sublimate it or overcome it, or just put it aside for the time being,” she said.
Actors because of the characters they played. I read that the woman who played Brian Cranston's wife on Breaking Bad still gets hate mail.
George R.R. Martin congratulated Jack Gleeson: Joffrey Baratheon for his performance
Poor people
some idiots think people choose to be poor...."give $100 to a rich he invest. give 100 to a poor he spend..." or " its about prioritizion. spend 2-3 hours a day to learn new skills instead of sleeping"...
Guy Fieri
Dude has donated millions to charity and done phenomenal things for the world but because he has spiked blond hair and is a meme people hate on him
As for why we enjoy hearing negative things more than wholesome stories, well, we’re hardwired that way.
“When it comes to hearing information about the darker aspects of humanity, our brains experience greater stimulation when we hear stories of depravity than of kindness. It also has a ‘feel-good aspect’ for some folks as it normalizes and minimizes their own dark aspects or negative traits,” the professor explained to Bored Panda.
“Whether it's greed, anger, promiscuity, and so on, when we hear just how bad someone else has been, it can make us feel better about our own tendencies towards the dark side traits. It also lets us imagine vicariously what it would be like to be ‘that bad. It's kind of like watching all the true crime shows—we enjoy being scared, we enjoy seeing into the minds of people doing things we never would, and it's exciting and novel to see just how far people can go in terms of their dark sides.”
Gingers. South Park made my life a living hell in high school.
Pumpkin spice lattes. It’s a fun fall drink and if it makes people happy, that’s awesome! Mocking people for liking a certain beverage is just weird and mean for no reason. And drinking black coffee does not make you hardcore.
My problem is that the pumpkin spice aroma (smell) can be everywhere and it makes my eyes water and is nauseating. The absolute worst "public stink" for me is the strong cinnamon found on all the pinecones and brooms at the entry to craft stores - these physically give me a headache and makes me sick.
Prebuilt gaming PCs.
I’ll pay a few hundred extra bucks to not have to deal with the hassle of finding all the parts I need, waiting for them all to arrive, assembling them, having something not work, troubleshooting for six hours to figure out what’s not working, returning that part and waiting for the replacement, assembling with that part, realizing another part wasn’t working right, then…
Basically anything teenage girls are into at the time. It's just misogyny, y'all.
Emos and goths
Ah, yes, another way to minimise teens and teen girls' feelings. Then again, us Gen X-ers think we perfected emo and goth anyway, so hit us up if you want to know how to light your 99c black Maybelline eyeliner so it melts and smudges just right.
New Music.
A ton (not all) people think their generation's music was better than whatever is current.
It is hard to accept that your teenage music sucked to the generation before. It is a cycle and the wheels keep on turning.
I think the problem is; new music hasn't been sorted through yet, because, well, it's new. So, yeah, sure, there's lots of bad stuff. But there's also tons of good stuff too. The stuff that's older, the junk doesn't tend to get played anymore. So, it's usually all the best stuff of that decade. I think there's also a nostalgia factor as well.
Gen Z. Yeah, they do some cringy sh*t, but I have peers in their 30’s and 40’s who also do some cringy s**t.
Chris Pratt. I'll never understand why Twitter progressives hate him so much. "He's part of a homophobic church" they say. But you know who else is? AOC and Joe Biden. "He didn't endorse Biden so he must be a Trump supporter." I can't understand how anyone could possibly think this makes sense when he literally donated money to Obama in 2012.
I don't get the whole "if you're not with us you're against us" sh!t. There's a middle ground, you know.
Ed Sheeran
what's wrong with him? Poor guy has become a meme just because he's a redhead and the song Shape of You
I'm sure when he feels sad from all the hate comments, he just takes a dive at his pool full of coins, scrooge mcduck style

If someone is not hurting themselves or anyone else. Let them be who they are, let them do the stuff they want to do. If someone else is doing something doesn't mean you have to. So let people listen to boybands, eat cilantro and wear fur suits, it is a harmless thing that makes them happy.
It does strike me odd that all of humanity has silently agreed to hate specific people
Well in the case of Jabba the Putz, it's well-deserved.

There are always things to question, but you can do so without insulting people. We need to interrogate the abuse depicted as romantic in Twilight and its inspo spin-offs, like Fifty Shades and After and 365 whatevers. But that can be done easily without putting down an entire reading demographic or gender.
Every week, there's group B who are so irritated with what group A does that they have to post it on the internet. Do they really think group A is gonna suddenly stop doing those things just because they complain? It all makes me wonder what kind of desperately judgy lives they live --- just for a moment.
I think it's a cycle. First, it's popular. Then a few people get tired of seeing it everywhere and make a few funny comments or whatever. Then a lot of people start agreeing. Lastly, people are like wait, it's not so bad. I'm not sure if most of these are really "hated" except by the most extreme.
This whole post is just criticizing people for having an opinion that's not yours. Yuck!
