There’s only so much BS a human being can possibly take. And this level of tolerance decreases as soon as we start talking about job applications. From one hell of a job description to position requirements that make zero sense, these are just the tip of the iceberg of the dangerous and severe diagnosis known as chronic job search exhaustion.
If you have it, you know it—because at this point you are no longer willing to send one more cover letter with dear this and dear that, because enough is enough. But there’s a safe space to talk about hard things and this corner of the internet known as the r/RecruitingHell subreddit is precisely that.
With 154k members no longer buying into broken job offers, the subreddit has quite a hell of a collection to make you feel better about where you’re at, or at least, not worse.

I always ask for the salary range when I'm asked for an interview. If they reply and it's acceptable I go, otherwise I decline. When they offer a vague reply like "I don't think the salary alone shows how much value this would bring you" or my favorite "it's based on experience" etc, I just decline.
I always worried that would give the wrong impression that I am only applying or interviewing because of money (even though it is in a nutshell!). But I have also taken the time to interview for a job and they end up offering 70% of what I was making already. Finding newjobs is such a headache

I don't even apply for a job anymore without knowing the salary. The amount of times I've had my time wasted and been seriously lowballed is extreme!

You wouldn't look at a car or house that wasn't advertised with a price, why not the job you are going to be using to PAY for it!
I'm a hiring manager. I agree! But we can't just list a salary. Some people come to me making $65k at their current job. If I want them, I'd pitch $75k on the offer. But if they come to me making $75 already i might offer $85k. Professional white collar jobs have a salary range, not just a salary. Hourly jobs are much more predictable.
Yes, please put salary in the description. You will save yourselves and everyone else a lot of time
I think it’s a tactic they use to ask you at the interview how much are you looking for, whole time fingers crossed if you’ll say lower then what they are actually offering

This salary ritual needs to stop as well. X experience= X amount of pay. Does not matter race, sex, or age.

i don't consider this to be valid for all jobs. There are many jobs where when you prove your worth, find what they want from you and you can negotiate said salary. There are many websites where you can find what a job pays in a wanted domain and certain regions. Plus it's in their interest to find people that are not motivated by salary only
Maybe but the whole don't talk about salary thing is often used as an excuse to pay minorities less. They should just be upfront. You can always put 'negotiable salary' in the description.

It is normal to discuss salaries. I am an employer, had some interviews as I hired three people (small office). While I liked their enthusiasm and their willingness to work with me, I always told them the net salary at the interview. It isn't fair to find out your salary only after working for a month there.

I am severely underpaid, not only for the work I provide but also compared to my colleagues. #80 I used to be one of the "loyal" to a company type, NO LONGER - The corporations do not give a flip about you, many a person has worked for 30+ years at a company, to be fired right before retirement and pension. Or firing all the "older" employee's to re-hire at much lower wages.
In an interview, the boss said he wanted me to violate a federal law on his say so. The interview was over. HR rep in the room was sympathetic. Other IT people astonished. I ain't freaking lying to you so I can take a job that requires the CEO to back me up.
Some of these are so unbelievable that it makes me think some people out there are just fulfills unemployment requirements.
You are applying for a job so you can have an experience but then they require you to have an experience? Seriously, wtf?
I applied for a job that asked "are you a dog or a cat person & what is your favourite brunch spot." I can't morph into any animal, but if I could, it would be a bear shark, and I've never eaten "brunch." I may have eaten a late breakfast or an early lunch, but I'm not a pretentious hipster, so it's still called breakfast or lunch.
They weren't asking what kind of animal you would become, they were asking if you preferred dogs or cats. If you prefer dogs, that means you would be considered loyal, obedient, & a follower; if you like cats more, then you are an independent thinker & might not "obey" all their rules. The brunch thing tho seems idiotic.
