29 Embarrassing Moments People Didn’t Realize Who They’re Talking To And Made A Fool Out Of Themselves
If you're going to criticize somebody or call someone out on something, it's probably best that you know who you’re talking to. Because as you can see from this hilariously cringeworthy list compiled by Bored Panda, all sorts of awkwardness can ensue when you don't do your research first. From a know-it-all correcting J.K. Rowling about the reason behind Severus Snape's demise, to a clueless smartass who asked the Prime Minister of Malta who his sources were when he tweeted about a potential hijack situation, the examples below serve as an important reminder that if you aren't sure who you’re talking to then maybe keep your opinions to yourself. Don't forget to vote for your favorite!

Twitter User Tells Woman With PHD In Astrophysics That She Needs To Learn Some Science
People like Gary P Jackson likely believe that you can graduate in Creationism.
I am a Christian, but I most definitely believe in global warming...please don't generalize.
Load More Replies...I wish there was a paid service where you could hire a burly man to punch a conspiracy idiot of your choice in the face.
I just noticed her gd handle has "astro" in it. Gary's brain, "Astro...hsh. Pffft women, especially thoae that clearly love astrology. So wrong all the time. I'll just hit reply and explain how she's wrong. She'll listen to my penis and we'll all be better for it."
Gary isn't wrong though, ironically a degree doesn't mean you are right.
That's what I was thinking. I mean, Ben Carson is a surgeon, so clearly he's educated in that particular field, but when it comes to a lot of ... reality, he's a f*****g nutcase.
Load More Replies...I'm afraid to see how many comments are about how they don't "believe" in global warming.
The way stupid people think out of envy and frustration: "That's what you go to school for... to scam-scare people"
Obviously, Gary Jackson is mentally r******d if he thinks that global warming is a "scam". However, the fact that Katie Mack has a PhD in "astrophysics" (assuming that's true) makes it more pathetic and less excusable that she is so ignorant on the subject of global warming, which she obviously is if she wrote "Honestly climate change scares the heck out of me and it makes me so so sad because we are losing because of it". That sentence would never have been written by a real scientist who knows anything about the subject.
I honestly do Not understand why we debate about it. Where you believe the science or ignore facts why does anybody think cutting back on pollution is a bad thing!?!
Nobody is claiming that global warming has anything to do with "pollution" which is something that makes you sick. Even Democrats are not claiming that breathing in carbon dioxide makes you sick.
Load More Replies...astrophysics definition : The branch of astronomy devoted to the study of the physical characteristics and composition of objects in the sky. Typical concerns of astrophysics are how much light the stars give off and the size, mass, AND TEMPERATURE OF PLANETS and stars.
Astrophysics doesn't make you a climate expert so yes, get another degree.
What the heck does astrophysics have to do with the science of atmospheric physics? They are two completely different things. Astrophysics is the study of the physics of the universe, planets, stars, blackholes, etc etc in the universe. Atmospheric physics on the other hand is the study of the atmospheres of planets.
well, i do believe in global warming but having a phd in astrophysics doesn't mean you're an expert in environmental studies.
Cause that's the same thing as a PhD in meteorology... Certainly qualifies you to disagree with actual meteorologists that do't believe the scam. Guess she'd be cool consulting someone with with a PhD in engineering about brain cancer. Close enough. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I was hoping an astrologist would chime in here. Just as applicable
50 years!!!! LOL, the world has been around for a bit longer my dear. And yes there are weather cycles, but that's not what the issue is. Keep reading! Read some really old stuff, too (like older than 50 years....)
Load More Replies...Still, as an astrophysicist, shes going to have a in-depth understanding of atmospheric changes and their affect on the planet in question.
Load More Replies...Astrophysics requires so much knowledge that ties in with climatology, i would expect that she is informed if she it tweeting about it. As an astrophysicist, she'd have in-depth knowledge about gaseous atmospheres, changes in composition, and how those changes affect their respective planets--especially Earth. As we look at other planets and celestial objects, we're always comparing them to us. It's a very relevant field when discussing climate change.

Much embarassing stuff here, but also much strange stuff. People asking for sources are just right. If you make claims, state the sources, as easy as it is...also big names make mistakes. In science, you can have a track record to the Mars, if the next article your write lacks essential references, it will be rejected, at least if submitted to serious outlets.
Agreed. There’s as much arrogance on the one side as there’s ignorance on the other. You’d think the scholars at least would understand the fallacy of argument from authority. But I guess that only applies to other people.
Load More Replies...don't see what's embarassing about 21. if you're not interested in sport, why would you recognise the person. they wanted a picture of the two of them, and asked a passer by. nothing wrong or embarassing about that. in the unlikely event I recognised a sports person, I'd have no reason to want a picture with them, but I might want a picture of me and a friend having a nice day out.
Yeah I didn't understand that one at all. Maybe she felt unrecognized, but I have no idea who she is. I've no interest in sports. Should I want her to get my autograph if she's never seen what I'm famous for? Oh wait, I'm not famous. Ha ha

Load More Replies...I have a PhD in environmental science. I constantly get mansplained (yes, it's always guys) that I don't understand the science and that I don't understand that I've been hoodwinked about climate change. When I ask them to produce their sources they never can, but any legitimate scientific paper I refer them to is "fake".....

I'm not entirely sure why we're supposed to know or look up every person we come across online, or we're idiots? I admit, I'm not big on arguing about things I know nothing about with complete strangers, but there are plenty who do.. The person who just expects you to know they're an expert in whatever the topic is, is just as big an a*****e as the guy who thinks he's an expert and isn't. What happened to expecting sources, credentials, and proof? Or at least verifying your own damn credentials! I don't have the time or the inclination to look up every rando who comments on an article or tweet. Everyone needs to get over themselves, being "internet famous" on various sites, or in another obscure form, doesn't automatically make you well known.
I somewhat agree but not all of these examples are a case of obscurity and arrogance. They're more often cases of amusing irony. This article unnecessarily frames the whole set as "people making a fool of themselves".
Load More Replies...#12 isn't embarrassing. Trusting coaches, players, family, and friends for information about things like injuries it ridiculous. They have no incentive to tell the truth, and can only benefit from keeping bad news from leaking. The rest are pretty funny.
The irony is your comment is that it's a fantastic example of passive aggressiveness.

Yep, feminists are often guilty of selection bias.
