Indiana City Police Department Allows People To Pay Off Their Parking Tickets By Donating Cat Food

It’s no doubt that pets are some of the best things that can happen to a human. Unfortunately, there are plenty of people who refuse this joy and decide to abandon their pets, usually cats and dogs. The upside to it is the fact that there are people who dedicate their lives to help those poor critters that were left homeless in many animal shelters across the world. One such example is the Muncie Animal Care & Services in Indiana, who help people adopt new pets and help find abandoned animals new homes.

Muncie Animal Care & Services teamed up with the local police to let citizens pay their fines by helping out abandoned kitties

However, that requires resources and it often boils down to the simple, yet horrible truth that there are more people willing to abandon a ‘problem’ than to solve it. As the Muncie cat shelter was starting to get overrun with stray cats and kittens, an unexpected ally emerged in the chaos. The local police department decided to step in and help by offering the citizens a new alternative to their own troubles. Instead of paying off their parking tickets with money, the police encouraged people to donate money or cat food to the Muncie Animal Care & Services shelter.

Both services took to social media to share this initiative, adding a list of things people can offer instead of paying off their parking violations. “Cat/kitten food, litter, wet/pate canned food, beds, blankets” are some of the things that are encouraged to be brought in.

The police officer even noted that those who are unable to drop the items off at the shelter or the police department may call their number to have a uniformed officer come over to pick up the donated items for adorable cats.

Although this offer is limited until June 19, 4 pm local time, it’s a good initiative to help out shelters in need while encouraging people to donate. People on social media applauded this effort and wished for it to be a universal practice. Well, maybe someday!

Years ago a pregnant stray showed up on my doorstep. I would like to have kept them all, but there wasn't room; fortunately, I did find responsible forever homes for all of the kittens, and had the mother, whom I dubbed Ragamuffin, fixed. RIP, Ragamuffin - in your honor I adopted two rescue kittens. Now they're grown up, and if only they would quit fighting!

Wonderful! Let's pass this on to our local/national police! Could be used also to pay in form of animal donations (money instead of to state, to shelters / food or supplies for cats and dogs / etc.). Thanks for posting this great article. :)

That's what I was thinking. I wonder how many traffic violators wound up adopting. Hope it was at least a few of them.

Great idea, but I cried seeing all those cats that need homes. People suck. Don't take a pet if you cannot care for it! They are not toys.

Eben the city's name sounds like meowing. I'd like to drive there just to park illegally. A big thanks to whoever had this great idea, and to those being on charge and making it possible! <3
