Paris Hilton Just Said She And Britney Invented The Selfie, And Here’s 24 Best Reactions From Twitter
Did you know that Paris Hilton invented the selfie way back in 2006? No? Well, neither did we, because it’s not true. At all. Still, that didn’t stop the socialite and hotel heiress from announcing on twitter recently that she was apparently the originator of modern society’s most narcissistic past-time. “11 years ago today, Me and Britney invented the selfie!” she wrote alongside some snaps of her and the pop star posing together. But Twitter was quick to shut her down with various examples of people who got there before her, including Frank Sinatra, Joey and Chandler, Mr Bean, and Paul McCartney. Who did it best?

Poor Paris. The only person that cares about Paris is... Paris. If she valued anything or stood for a cause we wouldn't think she's such a fool.
I doubt it. She's probably stand for something stupid. Or she'd accidentally pick a good cause and make it look fooling by her support. ;)
Load More Replies...Well, at least there was something positive to get from this! :) A silver lining.
Load More Replies...Hilarious... my co-workers and I took MANY selfies with (mostly my) cameras as far back as 1985. And yes, I still have a lot of photos to prove it. I think a lot of the time we were just too lazy to use the timer. ha ha
I did too. Maybe not in the 80's, but for sure by the 90's. We NEVER even thought of who was the first, we never cared
Load More Replies...A lot of people make that grammar mistake. It was quoted straight from Paris' post, and she is not very... er, smart.
Load More Replies...And not to forget this one. World first selfie making-of-...0b8076.png
That wasn't the world's first camera. IT's WAY too modern, you can tell by the clothes.
Load More Replies...Omg, they roasted them completely. I'm not surprised, though. If you happened to be a lonely traveller 50 years ago and you were socially awkward, how were you supposed to take a picture of yourself? :)
i wonder what will happen if she said she was the first to make a sex tape
People like this think time begins and ends with her. They're the type who say things like, "who cares about history? It's already happened." They have no concept of the millions of famous or otherwise humans who came before them and likely dont think about those who will go on just fine when they're gone.
*edit* .....begins and ends with them. Why can't BP let us edit our posts?
Load More Replies...It's so stupid to think "selfies" is a thing. There have always been self-portraits, and as long as cameras have been around there have always been people taking pictures of themselves. How arrogant a generation we live in to think that pointing our cell phones in the direction of our faces is some phenomenon of our time.
Well, one big difference, we do not have to spend years painting a single portrait of ourselves. With smart-phones, it is fast and efficient when taking photos. People can take 'selfies' whenever they want, and usually wherever they want. Selfies can be memoirs of visiting places, taken with friends or family, used for profile pictures, or even used for interviews or business websites. Selfies are something special, especially now because we can easily take them within a few seconds. I doubt you would want to spend years painting your self-portrait or spend loads of money for someone to paint one. Paris may be arrogant but does not mean everyone else is. Besides, we have so many other absolutely fascinating devices and pieces of technology. Our world is changing, and fast.

Kinda like Romy and Michelle invented Post-its? That is funny and sad at the same time.
Paris and Britney have very limited thought processes, you'll have to excuse them if possible. The only reason they're not selling hamburgers at a drive in is money.
Paris Hilton is a dumb narcisistic b***h. She has a desperate need to brag about her imaginary contributions to society. Born with everything anybody could wish for but she can't create anything of real value with it.
Brilliant responses. I did a mirror selfie in 1972 when they were called photographs but I remember seeing some from the 1900's in photography class. Poor Paris is deluded.
We're ignoring the elephant in the room, Internet. "...Me and Britney invented..."? Unacceptable grammar.
I suspect Paris Hilton was trying to be funny, but who knows? Anyway, here's an early teenage selfie of Grand Duchess Anastasia of Russia, circa 1914 Anastasia-...59266e.jpg
It's obvious that they don't mean it literally. And the word selfie doesn't mean the same thing as taking a photo of yourself... It's an internet word for a social media phenomenon.
1971, Soviet cartoon - the wolf is taking a selfie :) Sorry, Paris but you are just an attention-seeker selfie-wol...cf0654.jpg
OK! Let's say you DID invent the selfie! Wow, what a powerful creation that saved many lives and improved many others! How would the humanity do without you? And how humble must you be to claim the "rights" to this "invention"!!
Blair Witch Project scared the s**t out of me.Not positive but l think that was the first famous movie that was filmed like that. Will never watch it again- they did a great job using a new technic.

Ok, who first coined the word "selfie"? I bet the term "selfie" is younger then the action of taking a selfie itself.
I think Rembrandt takes the cake on this one. Sorry guys. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-portraits_by_Rembrandt
What about famous for nothing? Can anyone think of anybody before Paris that got famous for contributing, doing, or being absolutely nothing? I'm racking my brain, but everyone I come up with has made some sort of contribution to (or against) humankind.
It should be Britney and I not me and Britney! Obviously grammar is another thing that is wrong with that sentence!
Oh, please, her post was not even grammatically correct. That's enough said...
I swear, this is like saying you were the first to do pretty much everything. An old saying I have often quoted: There is nothing new under the sun. Almost anything you can think of has been tried or done. This can be a disturbing thought.
Who was Paris Hilton again? I vaguely recall the name from wayyyy back.
Paris Hilton has something in her eye I think. She keeps squinting. Of the flash is too bright. :X
The real question now (and with regard to any C to Z celebrity news) is: when did the first bag of rice in China tip over?
A few days ago someone brought this up and my grandmother and pulled out a very old photo of her and her friend, a photo from I think 1953 and written on the back it said "We took this photo ourselves!" so there's an old selfie. I know there's are selfies older than that here, but this one's definitely older than Paris Hilton's
It should be Britney and I not me and Britney, but, obviously grammar is not the only thing wrong with that sentence!
